Re: The Official 2024 Offseason Thread Part 2
Has anyone picked up Boogie Ellis from USC? He was Bronny's teammate and put up 16+ a game. Sure would be fun and funny to see thoae two have to go at it several times a year.
I know Ellis is undersized at on 6'1", but his numbers aren't bad when comparing against the other undrafted at his position.

Doesn’t James Jones have an obsession with Kenyon Martin’s kid? He’s a FA, and isn’t going to be getting any big offers.
I’m surprised Suns haven’t signed him to a vet min yet.

Kings scooped him up. I kinda wanted him on Suns too.

That's why their owner is selling his share. The Grysbouck (sp) are actually in the lower level of NBA owners money wise. Can't afford all that tax.
Kinda wish Ishbia had bought Boston instead of us lol
I wish he bought the Denver Broncos (the team he was initially after) instead of us. He could’ve ruined them and it would’ve been a bonus for me as a Chargers fan.

They accomplished a heck of a lot more than we did, winning 57 games, winning their division and conference in the regular season, winning a playoff round and taking the WCF team to 7 games. No one probably picked them to even be a 2nd round playoff team before the finals. If we are talking about what have we accomplished since overturning our roster? A first round embarrassing sweep when we were among the favorites to start the season. On top of that, after the matchups were announced, everyone said we got our best possible matchup and Minny got their worst possible matchup and they still swept us.
I'd hate to see what our worst matchups would have been.
Anyway, I am surprised someone who is a die hard Suns fan would not trade rosters/assets with the Thunder. They are already better, younger and have tons of assets. I want us to be better, younger and have a ton of assets.
I do admire the optimism for our team, but I don't think we really need to downplay how impressive OKC's rebuild has been. No, they haven't "done" anything yet, if by "done" you mean win a championship (which is hard for any team), but they are in year 1 of their playoffs with their oldest key player being 25.
They also have 4 firsts next year in what is supposed to be one of the better drafts in years with high end blue chip prospects, but also a very deep draft.
Then they have 2 firsts in 26, 27, 28 and 29. Even if they don't win a championship, they are going to be a very competitive contender for years to come barring a catastrophic injury or two.
They were a nice surprise last year and they have multiple assets but I am not impressed with their roster and their rebuilding like some of you are... It's OK to disagree about it.

It's weird Tyson Walker on our summer league team also played 5 years in college. Stats not quite as good but probably a better defender.

Re: The Official 2024 Offseason Thread Part 2
Story on Collin Gillespie from reddit posted last year.
My Experience with Collin Gillespie
I'm currently a rising senior at Villanova and considering it's a relatively small campus, I saw him a lot over the last 3 years. One particular instance stands out though.
I was in my fall semester of freshman year and had a class in this giant building called Tolentine. I got up in the middle of class to go to the bathroom and went downstairs to the first floor, and there was no one there except for Collin at the very other end of the hall walking towards me. I quickly noticed he was very intensely staring at me as he was walking towards me, as if I had just banged his girl. I didn't really know what to do, so I just matched him. For probably 15 seconds (it's a long hallway), we had this intense Western standoff with our eye contact as we walked towards each other and neither of us broke until we passed each other. No words were spoken. Most classes end at the same time, and since it's a giant building with like 75 classrooms, it can be pretty crowded as we all try to leave. But among the crowd, I made eye contact with him again for a quick second, and he bobbed his head up and down in what I consider a nod (could've very well been a coincidence). I like to think I earned his respect that day. I've seen him plenty of times since then around campus and neither of us have acknowledged each other. He probably doesn't remember. Some of my friends think I completely made up the story, which is very frustrating
The point is, you guys have a dog and I'm glad to see him performing well in the Summer League. What he lacks in size and overall athleticism, he overcompensates with intensity and leadership. He goes 110% even when he's walking to the bathroom in the middle of class. I think it's cool to hear stuff like this about players who people don't know much about, since you're obviously able to see their abilities on the court, but you can't necessarily see the things behind the scenes like mentality and work ethic, which is often the primary reason why they've been given a shot in the NBA. Not saying Gillespie is going to change your franchise, but I can easily see him becoming an undrafted success story who can be a strong backup PG.
TLDR: Collin Gillespie tried to alpha me walking to the bathroom but I matched his energy and earned his respect.

I'm pretty happy with our 2 way player signees. I did want Kolek (and possibly Filipowski) more than Dunn but I'm fairly happy with Oso and the others we got.

I trust Harbaugh to build a winner eventually. I don’t expect the Chargers to be contenders in the next 2 years because the roster is a mess but the guy has won at every level and he will do that again in the NFL.
This is the most optimistic I’ve been about the Chargers in over 10 years. I’m a big Philip Rivers fan and I hate that we had sorry ass coaches around him, I wish we had Harbaugh when Rivers was the QB.
Chargers are gonna improve a little next year and then more the year after and become a title contender year 3. I’m looking forward to watching that progression, complete opposite of the Suns team that is spiraling the opposite way with an extremely grim future. So it’s nice for me to have that contrast among my favorite teams lol.

There is something very hilarious about that story. Like it sounds like this guy is for real (the guy writing). It's written to where it sounds so ridiculous but this guy seems very serious.

I thought it was a copy paste story but it was looked into and it isn’t. Plus the guy who posted this was active on Villanova forums on reddit as well so he can be verified to be a student, alumni or employee there.
I think it is legit but yeah funny none the less.

Aaron Holiday got 10m over 2.
Who's going to get the minimum?
Dunn, Morris, Lowry, Beverley, Payne?
We have 0 point guards.

Yes, it's SO nice to have Harbaugh. This guy is doing all the practice drills WITH the team. This guy immediately turns around teams that are not that good, and usually with less talent than we have. Like the 6 win Niners to 3 consecutive NFC Championship game appearances...one win and SB appearance (and the losses were very close..some may say unlucky). From 6-10 the year before he got there to 13-3, 11--4-1 and 12-4.
The team had totally tuned out Staley....and even spoke out loud bashing him in a non direct way...after winning the 10 games and blowing the Jax game.
I expect us to be very very competitive this year. I won't be surprised if the Chargers have 12 wins. I know tons of people wanted Nabors though I had a feeling we'd take Alt...I would have been happy with either. If we can finally control the line of scrimmage, Herbert can find receivers and we can actually run the ball, and sounds like the ex Ravens Smith/Dobbs will pound it. Ladd McConkey seems like he's going to be a receiver Herbert loves too. I just hope Quentin Johnson learns how to not drop the ball and they can get something out of him. Curious if Jerry Rice's kid will be good too. Then in the 7th he took a Michigan WR so he likely knows him well and figures he can contribute. Junior Colson, his other ex player, was a great pick...best LB in the draft. Also really stacked up on cornerbacks. Seems like the main weakness is WR, but that doesn't concern me a ton if Herbert has solid pass protection. Safety depth and interior defense could potentially be other weaknesses.
But yeah, us, matt131, Skybill I think has a Chargers one. It's too bad for Slim though, that Ishbia didn't somehow figure out a way to buy the Chiefs.
I loved Ekeler but the biggest thing I will miss about these Chargers is Keenan. Hope both those guys do well in their new situations. Keenan will certainly help make Caleb Williams transition easier.
