I feel relieved, for now. No major holes. A complete core. I am confident we will win more ball games than last year. Go Suns!

If they won't make Ulis a starter then I want a young stud PG to feel as a completed core. Other than that I agree with you and I'm very excited.

Still wish we had taken Bell. Perfect small ball C, could have slotted in right behind Williams on the depth chart after Len gets stupid money this summer.

Peters actually looks interesting. He was ranked 31 on DX's Top 100(for comparison, Reed wasn't even in their Top 60)

Rebuild is complete. A young core of Booker, Chriss, Bender and Jackson is all you need. Throw in Ullis as the backup PG and that really is all the young pieces you want going forward. Can't have a roster of 10 20 year olds. I honestly wouldn't be upset if Bledsoe stuck around with this young core for 5-6 seasons. We need veterans on the roster and guys like Dudley, Barbosa (hopefully he stays), Chandler and Bledsoe are guys that can show our young core what the NBA is about. Len needs to go. He is no longer a part of anything I prefer if we use the money elsewhere.

I guess my biggest problem with this "we've got a young core" theory is one thing -----> our head coach. I don't know what good it's going to do to have all these young "decent" players without a staff that's legitimately good in the developmental department in order to make them competitive in the Western Conference.

Yeah, I was up reading the forums so long last night after the draft with sportscenter on in the background that I think I had it loop back to that interview like 7 or 8 times.

darealjuice wrote:Yeah he wasn't going to be there at #54. 3-and-D and positional versatility are the current NBA buzz words, and he fits that to a T with his proven outside shooting, proven defensive impact, and very good frame. How good he gets from here really depends on how hard he wants to work, but I don't see why there's no upside in a fairly athletic 6'6", 7' wingspan 2 guard with 40% career 3-point shooter just because he just turned 22.

I think with second round picks if you are really wanting to be a hard nosed team now as opposed to taking big time flyers on freshman guys who didn't even do much in college in the second round (who likely have very little chance in doing much if they have slid so far) that it makes more sense to get a guy who spent 3 or 4 years in college and has had to work to get to where he is. I mean a guy like Draymond Green was a four year guy who went in the second round.

I think he's a perfect 2 guard behind Booker...another guy who can come in and shoot with range, no matter what SF is playing, that position doesn't have much range which is good that we can stretch the floor with most of our others (hoping Bender and Chriss improve from distance).

I have been thinking about the fact that Josh Jackson doesn't strike me as a beach yoga type guy.

Listening to McD's post draft presser, all signs lead to the 2 2nd rounders being part of this team going into training camp. I could see both getting partially guaranteed deals (Alec with less guaranteed)

Agreed. I like the fit quite a bit, I also like adding a 4-year college dude to the mix... .someone who has spent several years playing against high-level competition. Should add some more toughness and maturity to the fold.

You guys know Earl was brought here for Player Development in the first place right? Plenty of players in the NBA considered him a mentor type player when he was in the league, especially in Portland

Great.... he (Earl) can mentor players, but who will mentor him? His hug it out approach might work in the locker room, but IMO, he leaves a god bit desired with his baseline to baseline strategy.

+1. I have no doubt in Earl's ability to manage a locker room, but I haven't seen anything that suggests he can put together a competent offensive and defensive scheme, which is just as important to player development as all of the "FAMILY" stuff

I agree with this, though I don't think I'm as sour on Watson as you sound (I could be wrong, maybe you like him a bit).

I like that he's there to develop their attitudes and work ethic, because it's something that's hard to get out of young guys without established vets or championship pedigree. It's a positive. But Watson's strategy and X's and O's are pretty clearly lacking. If his only value is developing the talent then he probably won't last here too much longer because at some point we need to stop concentrating on development and start concentrating on winning.

As long as players play hard under a coach is all I ask for and that's what Watson brings as a coach.
