It's easy to teach effort. And Tyson, until his recent rebounding phenomenon streak, was jogging his lazy ass up the court and barely jumping or moving for passes, all while playing the worst defense on the team (yes, the worst). He was our worst player all year for a reason, and that reason was he couldn't be bothered to play hard. Tyson can say all he wants, but unless he shows he can play with the effort he has the past 2 weeks or so for a full season, it falls on deaf ears to me.

At what age? If you are talking about someone older than 15 years old, good luck with that. It is tough to impossible to teach attitude and effort after a person becomes concrete operational.

I'd work on discipline and focus which enhances what they have.

This really sucks. I was looking forward to seeing him play more under Watson. What a shame.

The tank just acquired an additional plate of armor.

... And the minutes are now Markieff's whether he likes it or not. One of him or Alex has to score 20 points for us to have a chance on any given night.

So he was playing with a sore ankle and now it's a broken foot? Man, it's been a tough year for our training staff too.

Donald_Trade wrote:Knight for the Lakers pick was not horrible. Sure in hindsight it is easy to say that the trade was not needed since the ultimate goal of the plan failed when Aldridge did not sign here and we struck gold with Booker while Bogdanovic looks great in Europe also making Knight look expendable.

That Lakers pick best case is going to be #4. In other words Kris Dunn who projects to be a player a lot like Knight.

Most likely the Lakers pick won't be conveyed until 2017 and I doubt that the Lakers will remain this bad until then. They will massively spend in free agency this season and actually improve their team knowing they won't have a pick. So in the end the pick is likely top be a #10-20 pick in 2017.

Brandon Knight is worth more than that. Knight was playing very well until Bledsoe went down. His struggles started when he had to move back to Point Guard because IMO he is no point guard. Before he was averaging around 20/5/5 on good efficiency.
It seems to me that Knight struggles with footwork and ballhandling to navigate through a defense and create plays for others.
It might also just be that Hornacek's offensive system is god awful and lacks structure.

If you look at the big picture. The Knight trade was beyond awful. At that time we already traded Goran. So were left with IT and Bled, we then proceed to trade away IT, a combo guard and then trade for BK another combo guard + Lakers pick. Now its debateable who is better between IT vs BK but in essence we just gave the Laker pick away.. awful just awful.. much more if you consider how much of a super bargain ITs contract was.

I'm so tired of hearing about the damn lakers pick that won't even come to fruition for years.

Agreed. Maybe the trade for Knight wasn't the best use of the pick as trade bait. But the Suns were never getting that pick unless it was like 10 or below

Lakers had it top 5 protected last year - they drafted 2nd

They have top 3 this year and I have a few game lead ahead of the Suns. And come on, - does anybody really think David Sterns ping pong balls wouldn't have made it so the Lakers lose say the 4th or 5th pick. Hell No! Call my cynical but I just never see it happening.

Trade stuff:: Zach Lowe speculating on possible fits to help OKC: them seeing if Mitch McGary could get Courteny Lee or PJ Tucker. Again, just speculation from Lowe but it make sense for both teams. I think I prefer Huestis to McGary but whatever

The thing is the pick, assuming the worst case scenario for us and LAL ends up transferring it at #4 this year, is only 40% likely to give us a guy who produces 20 combined points, rebounds, and assists. Knight alone provides about 30 of those.

Also, to the guy above, IT is not a combo guard. He has no prayer in hell of ever guarding a 2 guard in the NBA. Just because you have the ability to score and don't pass a ton doesn't make you a 2 guard. Also, he's always put up big numbers and no team thought he was even worth the $7 mil/year Phoenix gave him, so how was he somehow equal value to Knight? I promise you he wasn't at the time of the trade, so calling it even and then saying we just threw in the pick is insanity. IT, like it or not, is a no go for plenty of teams due to his height, and accordingly he simply isn't valued that much. Yes, he made an all-star team, so would Knight have last year if he played on Boston. It's the East. At the end of the day IT's a good player who I like a lot, but his ballstopping and height make him less valuable league-wide than his numbers and production. That was the case in SAC, it was the case when Phoenix moved him, and even if we kept him it wouldn't have changed that.

Overall, it's pretty simple. Knight is way better than this board gives him credit for. He's not my favorite, and I hate how he plays, but the dude has talent and puts up numbers that few others can at the same age. With a disciplined coach he could be really good. That said, I do hope he's moved and I would rather have the pick, so if I could go back in time I'd not make the trade, but people acting as if it's some inexcusable action are just so ridiculously overstating things. His contract is not untradeable. He has plenty of value in this league, and the Lakers could very well kill it in FA now that Kobe is gone, meaning that becomes a late lotto pick. Half this board considers those valueless. Yet, half the board hated IT all of last year and suddenly throws blame around for moving him.

and 1/4 of the board realizes we could have had Knight for the same $$ in free agency AND the pick.... while still trading IT.

Yes, because counting on winning guys with RFA rights for nothing (not even a S&T with the other team) works out a ton in the NBA. All the time. Oh wait...

We used his Bird Rights to exceed the cap but it was a counter-intuitive move
