Kind of what I thought. He's the perfect complementary bench player fo a contender that can spot start if needed. Late first/2 2nd's is what I kind of figured his value would be

Well Thibs may trump anyone only because he has personally coached him and is attached to him. I wouldn't be surprised if Minny overpaid for him.
It's the scenario McD has been talking about ever since he got hired. No way he lets it pass.

Re: The Trade/Free Agency Thread: All Eyes Toward The Offseason 2
I didn't realize Batum is only 27 years old, and doesn't turn 28 until December. He's coming off his best season. He does everything well and would add length, versatility, play making ability, and athleticism. I know he won't come cheap, but he's a more realistic target than some of the others. I would strongly prefer him over Harrison Barnes, who Golden State isn't willing to let go of.
I hope the Suns infatuation with PJ Tucker wears off. He had the worst PER of anyone that received consistent minutes last year. He shouldn't be getting more than 10 or 15 minutes a night. He's a decent defender, but does nothing else remotely well. Even if we don't add someone else at the 3, I'd hope TJ Warren starts getting the lions share of the minutes. His defense needs to improve, but he does everything well offensively. He dramatically improved from three point range shooting 40% last year albeit on limited attempts.

Oh yeah, much prefer Batum to Barnes. Someone posted a straight up trade offer of the two on the trade forum and it's viewed as pretty heavily lopsided in that GS would definitely clean up in that deal.
Batum does everything and is good across the board. I don't think he leaves Charlotte though.

Would we be able to stick Butler at the 3 because otherwise we are still stuck in the 3 guard rotations where one of them is going to be unsatisfied

I disagree. At some point you have to add good players to the team. I'm not saying he's a max player, but his addition would certainly make us better. We have struck out on the superstars the last several years. With a terrible season last year we are moving further away from attracting any in free agency. Will adding Batum make us a contender? Absolutely not. Will he make us better? Absolutely. The only way we can become a legitimate contender for a star free agent is to have a roster that he feels like his addition will make them a contender. And if we acquire one via trade (which is more likely), we have to have some sort of supporting case around them. PJ Tucker isn't exactly going to get the job done.

It is absolutely imperative for us to implode next season even if we aren't actively tanking. Everything is hanging in the balance, the crown jewels of the 2017 class could be our saving grace. I like Batum but he would just be a expensive roadblock and would get in the way of TJ's development.

He actually doesn't believe what he wrote as green font indicates sarcasm which means he agrees with your post.

I'd love to get Giles, Tatum or Jackson, but we could finish with the worst record and move down to 4th. But overall the draft is better, so it would be nice to have a high pick. But I'd like to see us competitive. Ideally it would be keeping all of our picks and them all getting minutes and going young, but they will likely not do that. None of these higher profile free agents will sign with us though.

I really hope that all Harrison Barnes talk stops after what we saw tonight.

Re: The Trade/Free Agency Thread: All Eyes Toward The Offseason 2
The Heat picks are definitely on the table for a true star like Butler if the Laker pick was dealt for Brandon Knight. Assuming the deal would be something like Warren, #4, #28, 18' Heat pick. Try to keep #13 for Skal or Sabonis then have max cap space for Blake Griffin.
Bledsoe/Goodwin
Booker/Knight
Butler/PJ
Mirza/#13
Len/Chandler
Decent looking team that could attract FA's the following summer. Not saying the Bulls would do it but that's probably the most I'd give.

Damn how the hell did Love have 3 rebounds and 2 points in 33 minutes?
