If this is true, then it is sad and unfortunate. Amare is silly with his Knicks talk, but McD and Sarver are silly to not honor their players from great days. Amare could have done some things and would have been a perfect low minute vet PF we could have used. He could have shown Marqueese his to play the post facing the basket.

Very sad to see and hear this. Players and agents are taking note that PHX does not honor and respect their players.

Well, he willingly walked away from us right after we made the WCF. Knowing Amare, he wasn't trying to come back to Phoenix for cheap like Dudley and LB did

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't put up Amare's name in our Ring of Honor. He wants to be remembered as a Knicks player, why honor him here?

I liked the dude as a player, but he seems salty at Phoenix, so whatever.

Amare is a bonehead that has a gigantic ego and only cares about money. After he got his max contract (following his microfracture) he never gave 100% effort again. We should have traded him for KG back in 2007 as rumored. We'd probably have a title instead of Boston.

I'm so glad we kept this spoiled diva away from our youth.

Is he still ring of honor worthy? Yes. But he will never be one of my favorite Suns players and he DEFINITELY isn't one of my favorite people.

I hear ya. But if Barkley made the ring of honor, so will STAT. Even if he is a little bitch.

The Sixers put Barkley in their rafters. We should and will do the same for Amare.

Wow Amare retiring at 33. He should have been able to play a few more years if he ever developed a three point shot.

Don't understand why he "retired." He's not done playing. He will be back. I hate when players do that.

Amare was beasting in his prime with Phoenix and half-season with Knicks. Ultimately he wanted to chase the spotlight in a bigger market. However our training staff has multiple level 100 Wizards.

He got his money and we didn't have to pay him. Good luck STAT :D

This Stoudemire retiring with the Knicks thing is beyond ridiculou and his statement is bizarre. No one remembers him with the Knicks for good reasons and yet he wants to be remembered as a Knick? What a way to retire. Not even worthy of a thread on the Suns forum. He probably thinks that helps him have some sort of post-playing career with the NYK.

I am disappointed by this entire situation. I can understand why the Suns might not want Amare because they want to move on. On the other hand, I am a fan of the Suns and respect their history. I watched Nash retire a Los Angeles Laker. I watched Shawn Marion retire a Cleveland Cavalier. Now I am watching Amare Stoudemire retire a New York Knick. And this is after Amare was supposedly interested in coming back to the Suns for one more season to finish out his career but the Suns were not interested.

As a fan, I am disgusted by the organization's choice. You make the fans put up with NEARLY AN ENTIRE SEASON OF MARKIEFF DESTROYING THE TEAM, plus all the other garbage for the past two seasons, yet you will not let Amare retire in a Suns uniform. If that is really true and he wanted to come back, then shame on the Suns for not letting him retire as a Suns player.

Can Amare still play? Not really. Is he an egomaniac? Yes. How would he have been as an influence on the younger players? Idk, but he certainly could not be any worse than losers like the Morris brothers, Michael Beasley, and the rest of the joke players this organization employed recently. Amare is also the main player left from what I think is the second best era of Suns basketball, and some argue is the best. The same way I watched KJ and Majerle retire as Suns, I would have loved to see at least one of Nash, Marion, or Amare retire as Suns. Sarver would not let that happen. No interest Gambo says. Sometimes I find it extremely hard to defend the moves this organization makes.

While it would have been awesome to see Amare don the phoenix jersey again. Something to enjoy while we tank. Maybe the silver lining here is that the organisation feel that our squad is not tanking, that we can be competitive and Amare won't assist. Having 2 Pf rookies Amare getting big minutes could hurt their development. Last year the kobe farewell while great for lakers fans (n painful for those of us who can't stand him) it hurt the development of D'angelo Russell (the #2 pick). The tough call last year for the lakers was to forget about Kobe and focus on D'angelo and their youth movement. Bringing back Amare we may be doing the exact same thing, So while as a fan I don't love the decision, I think it was the right one.

And you are all crazy if you don't think he gets place in the ring of honour this season. lets just honour him for a night and not waste a season of it.

Can't believe he retired as a Knick.. Very disappointed. I can understand why we didn't want to bring him back for another year, but I can't understand why he wouldn't retire here.

I can't believe so many care that he retired a Knick. I mean I guess signing for a day to retire with them is odd, if he would have been able to do with the Suns (and the statement is really odd), but I don't really care. I don't really see what difference it makes regarding anything.

I think people wanted a good ending for a player we all poured time and emotions into watching. The best ending would be for Amare to play his final year on the team that drafted him. It's certainly odd that Amare did the one-day signing thing which I didn't particularly appreciate although it's entirely his choice. I'm just happy we got to witness one of the most offensively gifted duos of our generation play for the team we love.

Amare Stoudemire retires, will he and Shawn Marion get their jerseys retired?

What are your best memories of Amare as a Phoenix Sun?

I doubt Marion or Amare will get their jerseys retired. I'm not sure what my best memories were. Probably mostly the 2004-5 season when he was on fire that year in Nash's first year and he looked like he was about ready to become the next superstar. Unfortunately he got injured in the offseason or early the next season and was out pretty much the entire year.

For me, one of the highlights has gotta be that half season after we acquired Shaq. Amare was averaging an already all-star level 23.2/9.3/2bpg but after we got Shaq, he put up an elite 28.5/8.8/2apg/2.5bpg while shooting virtually the same FG% and getting to the line 10 times a game. It was truly a sight to behold.

That is kind of amazing he put up those numbers with Shaq in the middle.
