The massive three-teamer

Knicks send: Carmelo Anthony and Robin Lopez to Cleveland

Cavaliers send: Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Mo Williams and Sasha Kaun to Phoenix

Suns send: Eric Bledsoe to Cleveland; Brandon Knight, Alex Len, P.J. Tucker, Archie Goodwin and the Nos. 4 and 13 picks to New York

Chad Ford Idea...

So lets look at those teams:

Bledsoe, JR Smith/Shumpert, Melo, LeBron (interchangeable at 3/4) and Thompson/Lopez.

Solid, and interesting, but as little as Love was involved last night, the only reason the Cavs won is because of two really hot players...that was not team ball..no one else was involved. I think Kyrie and LeBron took 54 shots. Love also had double doubles in his first 8 playoff games, has scored over 20 in six of them and had double doubles in the closeout game against Toronto and first game against GS. Not sure that would make them any better and with Bledsoe's injury risk, and Kyrie being the youngest guy being a guy who rises in big moments, I'm not sure it's worth it. That being said, although he can have big moments, when he doesn't have those moments and shoots a lot and has an off night, he takes his team out of the game.

Kyrie, Booker, Warren, Love, Chandler.

That actually has the makings of a good team, at least offensively, if they could have enough ball movement, but the defense would be atrocious. The scoring might be fun to watch, and the rebounding fine, but we would be screwed at center when Chandler inevitably goes down. Unless we found gems late in this draft, this is probably a team that can't get out of the first round. However, add some key defending role players and a center, maybe it's ok.

Dunn, Knight, Tucker, Sabonis?, Len

Ultimately I don't really like it.

plus Kyrie/Love combo is just gonna absolutely crater your D...they can't guard the PnR together

they make a bad duo

Yes, thus the last part of my first sentence describing the Suns lineup.

The Trade/Free Agency Thread: All Eyes Toward The Offseason 2

Post#902 » by DRK » Tue Jun 14, 2016 4:42 pm

Heres a wacky trade idea.

Knight, #13, #28, PJ Tucker

For

Pekovic, #5, Shabazz

Why for Minnesota?
The TWolves do this deal with playoffs in mind. With this team, they have the talent and fit to easily make playoffs next season.
Minnesota add a great three point shooter in Knight who can start at the 2, or play sixth man to Lavine and Rubio. Instant offence for their team, and not a negative on defence.
Minnesota needs three point shooting in their backcourt, and Knight provides that.
PJ gives them a lockdown defender off the bench who would thrive under Thibs.
He also can play smallball 4 next to Towns, which would be a great matchup for the Wolves against teams like the Warriors.
Wolves also get pick #13 for young talent, AND also get to dump Pekovic's disgusting contract.

Why for Suns?
Suns get the back to back #4 and #5 pick, and rebuild on the fly. Rebuild the team's core around TJ Warren, Devin Booker, Alex Len and #4 and #5. Also can get a nice piece in Shabazz to add to their youth.

Makes sense, but I don't know why Minnesota wouldn't just take Hield or Murray for that shooting and get the guy on a rookie deal. I'm sure Thibs would like Tucker though.

If I was higher on the top of the draft I'd be all over it though.

They do this deal because Knight is a proven NBA player. Rookies are a crapshoot. Your statement crossed my mind too, but Hield isnt that much younger than Knight, plus they dump Pek and still add a lotto pick.

Dumping Pekovic's contract is probably one of the biggest sweeteners for the Wolves.

I posted it on the trade board. Will be interesting to see the responses

I really think that this lineup is possible depending on what Ainge does...

That would void us of all of our young talent except Booker. I mean, it is an ok line-up on paper. Surely a 50-win team. But how far are you going in the playoffs? And what does your future look like? This is the exact sort of thing I expect Sarver to push McDonough to do and that worries me.

Stay patient. Build through the draft. No more myopic corner cutting.

I don't think it does. Still have Bogdan coming over. Still have a late first and an early second this year. Still have all your future picks, AND the Miami picks.

I think it's a good deal.

I think it's definitely an overpay for Jimmy. They basically get 5 players who are all under 24 years old. Maybe keep Len or Warren and switch the 13th pick for 28th and maybe add a 2nd rounder and then I would do it.
Bled/Book/But/Horford/Chandler + 13th pick/Warren/Archie

I still don't get his thinking.

He gave up about 10 mil this past season to lose in the WCF :)

I'm sure his family is thrilled with that decision.

hindsight is obviously 20/20

He signed with a top 3 team in the league to chase a championship. It's not really that weird

This offseason has brought out some of the strangest trade ideas I have ever seen. Chad Ford's idea is insane and not even worth analyzing because it is so complicated and involves way too many stars which makes it pointless. I seriously wonder how some of these writers have jobs for legitimate media outlets.

Do you really? Cause it was clicked on then quoted on a ton of message boards. I'd say he is doing his job alright.

It's true but ultimately not surprising. The next two offseason's are going to be insane. Every single team has oodles of cap room and it's going to take a superteam to unseat the Warriors.

I bet we're going to see more player movement in the next two years than any other two year period in modern NBA history.

I put my thoughts out there on the T&T board also, but I am not in favor of this trade as written. It undervalues Knight too much, in my mind. Pek's deal is an anchor. You would just have to say you are satisfied with having less cap to play with than other teams around the league for the next two years. I don't think that is where McD's mind is right now at all. It does pull in another high pick, but I don't think PHX wants more picks, I think they could use higher picks, but even then that may be too many rookies walking around on a team that they really want to compete with. If there is a follow-up deal for another veteran, though, I think this would have a higher chance of happening with modifications.

I mean I'd love that deal but I just think Ainge and McDonough would get into a bidding war to drive the price up

Suns / Bulls
Pick 4, Knight, Len for Butler

Throw Pick 13 if it really pushes the deal through and ask for a 2nd rounder from Bulls.

Potentially..

C: Chandler
PF: Horford (FA)
SF: Butler (Trade)
SG: Booker
PG: Bledsoe
SF: Warren
PG/SG: Goodwin
PF/C: Maker/Qi
PF: Teletovic
PG/SG: Jenkins
PG: Price

- George had a gruesome injury. Why was that a stretch? We were also waiting for Goodwin to show his potential
- Cousins is a head case and we wanted to give Len more time. Now it might be our chance to move him in a major trade.
- Warren just came off an injury and we need to give him at least an entire season. Butler is currently our target.

Rondo or Conley to the Knicks? They need some draft picks and we happen to have some extra maybe they be willing to trade some futures or Williams if they go all win now mode

interesting three way trade on the trade board with boston/philly/chicago

butler to boston
okafor to chicago
3 to philly

that's the core, with a lot of fillers thrown in...avery bradley, lotta first rounders, etc

I think there's probably a similar deal we could construct with our pick right?
