Why ?

Suns players picking 20 for whatever reason underperform. Hope it's not the case here.

Maluach was #10 in the draft.

It’s a cool number that Damion Lee had for the last few years on the Suns.

I was thinking about another C with #10 - Manute Bol, Bol Bol's father, who was also from Sudan.

Fischer mentions a S&T for Brogdon

Allen or O'Neale for Brogdon?

Jake Fischer:
NBA personnel are bracing for Bradley Beal to become an unrestricted free agent. Here’s our update on how Beal’s expected addition to the veteran guard market has changed the current offseason landscape

Brogdon would be good for O'Neale. Not Allen. Keep Allen if we can.

Booker - Brogdon
Green - Allen
Brooks - Nigel Hayes
Dunn - Fleming - Hayes
Williams - Maluach - Richards

Michael Scotto:
The Phoenix Suns and No. 41 pick Koby Brea have agreed to a two-way deal, league sources told @hoopshype. Brea averaged 11.6 points and shot 43.5 percent from 3-point range for Kentucky last season.

So we have another roster spot available.

I don't even think the 2nds are necessary for the Blazers. They are going to want to start Sharpe, Avdija, and Toumani at the SG, SF, PF spot. I imagine Jrue Holiday and Clingan are the remaining starters. Grant is going to have come off the bench and I imagine he wouldn't be happy about that as he's been mostly starting for most of his career. Getting rid of Grant for anything of value I think would be a homerun for the Blazers.

OK... but Allen/Royce/Richards are "anything of value"?

I would do it, no doubt about it.

They are used to coming off the bench and likely won't create any type of animosity or team chemistry issues. Perhaps Grant doesn't mind coming off the bench, but perhaps the Blazers don't want a player that is getting paid $32 million to come off the bench. I mean... they just bought out DA because they didn't want him to come off the bench making $36 million.

Grant also had a very poor season dropping his 21 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assist shooting 45/40/82 in the 2023-24 season to 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assist shooting 37/36/85 in the 2024-25 season. He is 31 years old, so I actually think the Blazers would accept this type of deal in an instant. Probably better for the Suns to not make this type of deal

Yup sounds about right. With Beal buyout and Brea 2-way as reported, they gonna have a lot of active roster spots. I'm thinking they get another SF/PF.

I knew it! Called this last week. Suns not done with their active roster spot. With Brea 2-Way and Beal buyout coming, it looks like you're gonna have 2 more active spots on the roster.

Question isn't if, but who and when will they sign more players?

My guess is we use up the MLE to sign CP3 and Trey Lyles.

Don’t know what the return for Allen or O’Neal will be but I think it could be a win-win if done correctly.

The Jazz would have been perfect partner and maybe still are but not sure if they need an Allen or O’Neal.

Book is starting PG
Green is starting SG
Brooks is starting SF
Starting PF is likely Dunn
Williams is starting C

Battle for bench minutes between

C Richard’s, Maluach
SG Allen, Brea
PG Gillispie, TBD
SF/PF Fleming, O’Neale, Ighodaro, Hayes-Davis

A lot of young untested guys at SF/PF other than O’Neale. Hayes-Davis could be a wildcard until the youngster develop (Dunn, Ighodaro, Fleming)

Dunn and Ighodaro have big flaws in free throws and shooting. They are in no way locked in for a starting or backup role.

After waiving Beal the next important acquisition
Needs to be a point guard.

edit: even after signing Brea as a two-way, keeping Allen is critical. PG is still the most important need if you retain O’Neale and Allen.

Totally agree on Oso and Dunn. I don’t see a long term future with Oso. He excels at nothing. He’s not a good shooter, he’s ok on defense, he’s not a good rebounder, he’s not a good shot blocker, can’t shoot. At least Dunn excels on defense. Oso is a career g-Leaguer I’m afraid.

I think they need to stay below the tax. With a buyout it looks like they're barely under the tax enough to sign a vet minimum so not sure about MLE. They also could make other cost-cutting moves now or in-season to be under by the end of the season :dontknow: but tying up all this money to NOT get below the tax line would be...not good lol.

Exactly! If Ishbia decided to go above apron levels that would be defeating the purpose of getting below apron levels. The Suns are going to have to take some pain. Plus, there is not a player for the MLE that will be worth going above apron levels. That would be just doing something to do something

Michael Scotto via Bluesky

Just In: The Phoenix Suns signed No. 31 pick Rasheer Fleming to a four-year, $8.7 million deal, which is fully guaranteed for the first three seasons and includes a fourth-year team option, league sources told HoopsHype. Fleming was an All-A-10 Conference selection for St. Joe’s.

[Stein] Some confirmed suitors for Beal include the LA Clippers as well as the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee and Minnesota. League sources say that the options for Paul, Westbrook, Brogdon, De'Anthony Melton and Ben Simmons are likely to be impacted by where Beal lands.

[Katz] The Suns and Bradley Beal are increasingly optimistic that the two sides will agree to terms on a buyout, league sources tell The Athletic. According to a league source, the list of teams Beal has thought about includes the LA Clippers, Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks.

Melton might be the best defensively
Paul seems like the best floor general/mentor type
Brogdon - injury concern but good player
Simmons - -for the vet minimum and last resort

Return to Phoenix Suns
