Re: Offical Draft Thread: What should we do with the 13/14th pick and 43/44th pick?

I personally don't think we will trade for a high pick, because I think McD likes the team he has built. I think they might like to deal Marcus, but that won't get us a pick.

If for some reason they want to deal Bledsoe (which I doubt they do), I think the most likely place would probably be Sacramento, but I still think they are more likely to deal for Lawson if they can.

I also don't think the 8th pick is worth Bledsoe.

I think the Knicks will only trade for a big. And probably a well established one. If for some reason they can sign Marc Gasol or something, then I think they would deal their pick for possibly someone like Bledsoe. Though if it is Mudiay sitting there I don't know that I'd want to gamble on that.

Is it worth trading Bledsoe for Porzingis? I don't know. He sounds intriguing. Then take Booker at 13?

Knight/Booker/Warren/Porzingis/Len (that is the future team...this year we start with maybe Goodwin at 2, Tucker maybe briefly at 3, and Kieff at 4 probably most of the year, but Booker, Warren and Porzingis off the bench would be fun).

Having said that, I think they want Knight off the ball half the time or a co-ballhandler with Bledsoe, and only play with a true shooting guard the other half, while Bledsoe also plays with a true SG half his court time.

I really wonder if Turner and Kaminsky are gone if they will take a two guard sharpshooter. That would probably not bode well for Goodwin/Bullock.

I think Orlando could very likely trade their pick but again, they have guards, so who does that leave us to trade them? I think they need some vet offense, and might like Kieff, but again, is he worth trading for Porzingis if he is sitting there at 5? This would likely have to take place after the draft and the court case is settled. But I think a trade with Orlando is unlikely.

That leaves Charlotte. They desperately need shooting, but what could we give them? Would Kieff be enough to get the 9th pick and Vonleh if they want to speed the rebuild? Is that even worth it for us? That sounds like a pretty good deal IF Charlotte is tired of waiting for young guys to develop and desperately just wants to make the playoffs. A future big rotation of Len, Turner (taken 9th) and Vonleh would be nice.

Having said all this, I still think these trades are unlikely.

Adding Kaminsky to our team might make the most sense if Turner isn't there. I know Kaminsky may not have the upside of some others, but he would be a perfect big for our rotation and could play with Len or Kieff and really help with stretching the floor.

I wish Tucker had never played the two towards the end of the year so people would never have gotten that stupid idea in their heads

Yeah, odd that people think the Sixers would want to trade for vets. It's pretty clear what their strategy is, and they likely have three picks next year since they didn't get the Lakers or Heat picks this year. They will absolutely want Mudiay or Russell.

I actually think the Knicks wouldn't trade for a big - that's the one thing this FA market has plenty of. Monroe and Hibbert are particularly gettable, and there are others - Lopez, Millsap, Gasol, etc. And while there are a lot of PG's in the league, not many very good ones are for sale. So if the Knicks want to attract a marquee FA, putting another solid piece or two on that roster could really help.

I've made my case. We'll see what happens. I don't think McD likes the roster he's assembled - I think the underlying logic of all of his moves is value maximization, so he can make trades. Bled is a good piece, and the #4 is a great target. We're so far from contention in the west, I think it makes a lot of sense.

I think the real cornerstones of McD's rebuild are Len, Warren and Knight. The rest are investments.

It makes sense IF they can sign a good big. I think Jackson isn't just going to go for some avg big though. I imagine he will wait until after the draft to see what he can get in FA, and if he can add a big that way, then I could see him trading for a PG. His teams have traditionally had a guy who dominates the ball, shooters, and great rebounding bigs. He's never really been into a ball dominant PG, so if a guy isn't a great shooter, I'm not sure that is a guy he'd want. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd prefer Knight over Bledsoe.

Not to say he can't alter his strategy, but the triangle usually calls for specific types of players for it to work well.

I am not sure any of those guys can be a first option on a good playoff team. Maybe Warren, but ideally he would play a second fiddle to a guy like Russell or Winslow. That`s the prospects I`d target in any Bledsoe trade.

I wish people would explain themselves before they claim things are stupid. Facts would help. :D

He wasn't there to be a true shooting guard. He was there as a wing, and a defender, two things he does quite well.

I wonder how many more years it will take for people on this board to realize that the Suns FO doesn't give a f*** about traditional positions.

I like Winslow, but I'm fine with Warren at the 3. I'm not nearly as high on Russell as others. The buzz I hear about Porzingis makes him sound much more interesting to me. I see Winslow as a second or third piece too. I'd be happy to get Russell but I wouldn't trade half the team for him like some have said they'd do.

I know Kaminsky may not seem as sexy as some other options, but a 6-10 PF with a great face-up game would be incredibly valuable to Bledsoe/Knight/Warren driving the lane.

He's 6'11.75 without shoes and listed at 7'1. He's the tallest guy in the draft...or at least in the draft that's expected to be drafted reasonably high.

I don't expect Kaminsky to be a star player, but I do think his presence could allow Bledsoe and Knight to look like star players (maybe even TJ too).

If Suns stay the course and are set to pick ONLY at Pick 13.

As mentioned before, my thinking;

- Kevon Looney: 6'9 (with shoes), 7'3.5" wingspan, 9'2 standing reach. Isnt an elite shot blocker, but mobile and LONG. Could be "molded" to be a Terrence Jones/Josh Smith type PF/SF, or my hopes... a younger Robert Horry.
But would need the "correct" coaching staff to be developed correctly... Hornacek would need defensive focused assistants and a change to his "coaching" methods to maximise Looney's potential.

- Frank Kaminsky: 7'1 (with shoes), 6'11 wingspan (flat out average for a 6'11+ guy), 9'1.5" standing reach. Smart player, active but not athletic. As a PF he can look over a lot of defenders who are in the 6'10 ~ 6'11 range, which would make him an ideal front face PF. Will be a devastating weapon under a system where he will get open looks, Hawks, Spurs etc would benefit him a lot.
On the Suns... I think he can be a spot up shooter, a catch and shoot PF on the perimeter, an ant-Morris type PF.
He is 23 years old already but his improvement from when he was 21, 22 years old was phenomenal... another "trait" McD likes in his players... rapid improvements from year to year.
I won't be surprise if he gets picked earlier and I wont be surprise if Suns pick him at 13 if available. He fills a need especially with Hornacek's system.

- Myles Turner: 7'0 (with shoes), 7'4 wingspan, 9'4' standing reach. Very young still, can be anywhere from a backup Center to a legit starter center for years to come. Motor is questionable. I suppose depending on the workouts and the team system he could thrive. On the Suns, he might be playing some minutes as a "4". Physically, I'm impressed by him... but if the Suns draft him the Suns coaching staff will need adjustment to get him involved offensively.

- Devin Booker: 6'6 (with shoes), 6'7 wingspan. Potentially a very good specialist shooter. He's getting compared to Klay Thompson, but Klay is advanced mentally and IQ is through the roof. Its similar to those Ben Mclemore to Ray Allen comparison... which is WRONG. IQ and understanding of the game is 50% of the reason why stars are stars... At worst he can be a shooter when open. But with Bogdanovic, Goodwin, Warren on the team... Suns can go for a stretch 4 instead to bring in the shooter.

Porzinger is definitely a lot closer to Tskitishvili than Dirk... I agree with that statement. Dirk has "good" dribbling skills for a 7 footer, hence he can put the ball down and take his man. He can "trick" the defender to either giving him the shot or the lane...
