Based on the hype I think people expect much more upside. Kaminsky is tough to comp though. It's pretty rare a 7 footer improves so much in his last two years after being not on ANYONE'S radar that he is pretty much the best college player in the country.
I remember seeing his stat line early in his junior year and he had like 45 points and a bunch of 3s and some blocks and I thought "who is this guy and where he is projected in mocks?" He wasn't anywhere on mocks...not in the top two rounds of the next two years at that time. I was kind of shocked.
I think I asked about him on the draft forum and people said he wasn't nba caliber, but by the end of the year he started creeping into mocks and now is all the way up as a likely lottery pick.
I mean, I remember after the AZ tourney game last year I kept thinking "this guy really looks like Dirk when he's on". I mean, were people expecting Dirk to be that good? So I don't necessarily want to just assume Kaminsky doesn't have upside because he sure as hell as improved the last two years. It's not like Harrell or someone who's been pretty much the same.
As far a Porzingis, people seem to be projecting him REALLY high, so there is more hype.'
Since we need outside shooting and depth at the bigs, I'd be happy to get either. Of course it would take some serious trading up to get Porzingis.
If we were able to trade up to 4 though, I think, especially if the two bigs and Russell is gone, we would take Porzingis. He helps both of the areas McD wants to address. At 13, we can maybe get Kaminsky who is more polished and can likely contribute more quickly.
