Thought I'd share this article...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/0 ... 25569.html

I'm speechless after reading this and watching the video...what does everyone else think about this? Hopefully no one is crazy enough to support what happened?

EDIT: A new article from yahoo came out on this a few hours ago

Reporters working for WikiLeaks determined that the driver of the van was a good Samaritan on his way to take his small children to a tutoring session.

Are you laughing at the man that was murdered or his fatherless children?

The guys thought they had AKs and RPGs... there will be civilian casualties in war... It's not pretty but it's pretty human.

I am laughing at how a "a small, independent Web site" could determine such a thing

Probably a bunch of leftists who will tell you Americans only kill woman and children on their way to a wedding in the middle of the night.

While you may be right that the site was exaggerating a little bit with that sentence, is THAT really the first thing that strikes you about this video? I mean, I accept that accidental civilian casualties can happen, but this behavior is pretty inexcusable. For God's sake, you'd think this was a video of some dudes playing Call of Duty!

It looks like the copter was quick to pull the trigger, but they did see hostiles with weapons and the photographers(Reuters) were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The thing that is a bit sad and that could have been prevented was the shooting of the van. They did not really assess that well.

A lot of people are going to be quick to denounce this as a massacre or another terrorist attack by the USA, but you have to also understand that the country is in a time of war (Iraq).

I do not blame the soldiers for this mishap, I blame the war.

EDIT: after watching the video again, my opinions have changed. At the time the helicopter starts shooting, the group of people look harmless. They did not look like hostiles ready to engage in combat. This could have easily been prevented.

From all the folks I know who are Iraq war vets, that's pretty much the general attitude you have to have over there... or you die. You can't not want to do what you're doing. You have to do it, or you die.

Are you reading the same article? They didn't care if they were innocent or guilty, they just wanted to do it to as many people as they can and were celebrating.

The worst part of being a Suns fan is having to read these kind of comments from many of their fans.

Let this be a lesson not to venture around in enemy territory during curfew (which I am sure these guys knew).

its eye opening stuff

they clearly violated the rules of engagement because none of these people did anything that looked remotely hostile

on top of that the US military flat out lied when it said they were killed fighting insurgents that attacked them there were no insurgents and no attacks this was a cover up

disgraceful

+1... Not gonna judge our troops from an internet video where we don't know the whole story. Damn shame that stuff like that happens though. It's a lose-lose situation for both sides.

they shot a bunch of people who did nothing that indicated
1. they were terrorists
2. they were hostile

I don't think its too much to ask that they maintain some seriousness while doing their job. I accept that they have to kill people, but they do not have to make jokes while doing it. It's just disrespectful, especially AFTER finding out there are children involved. And of course the Army's decision to lie about the whole thing is pretty bad as well.
