Zach Randolph Identified as Major Marijuana Supplier

Post#1 » by Kerrsed » Thu May 27, 2010 2:34 am

LMAO. I knew he dealt when he/I was in Portland. I used to work for a car detailing service and we did all the Blazers vehicles. Rasheed/Z-Bo/Grant ect. and saw plenty of roaches/Large baggies in his Hummer and Impala.

An NBA player and former Marion basketball standout has been implicated in an Indianapolis drug investigation.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a trusted police informant identified Memphis Grizzlie player Zach Randolph as a major marijuana supplier in Indianapolis, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported.

Narcotics officers were staking out a suspected drug house on Indianapolis' north side two weeks ago when they pulled over Arthur Boyd, 32, soon after he left the residence, near 75th Street and Binford Avenue, police said.

According to the affidavit, the Cadillac Escalade that Boyd was driving was registered to Randolph, and police found marijuana and ammunition stowed inside.

"One of his vehicles had what we call hidden compartments that contained suspected narcotics, that being marijuana," said Lt. Jeff Duhamell.

Based on information found in the Escalade, police later raided a northeast side storage facility, where they said Randolph rents four lockers.

According to the affidavit, a police K-9 alerted to controlled substances in two of the four units, and police found more cars with secret compartments inside.

Duhamell said he had been unaware Randolph was implicated in the investigation.

"Whether he is a specific target, that I don't know," he said. "But looking at his ownership of the vehicles, he should be aware of whose driving and operating them and possessing illegal narcotics in his vehicles. That in and of itself brings up questions."

The police informant is also quoted in the affidavit as having told investigators that Randolph was known to provide individuals with expensive cars and access to his Geist Reservoir waterfront home.

Randolph's attorney, John Tompkins, told 6News Wednesday evening that Boyd worked for his client, and that Randolph is not connected to any drug activity.

He said Randolph's vehicle has secret compartments as a safety precaution for concealing valuables, and that police have told him the vehicles are in the process of being released.

Tompkins said the Memphis Grizzlies will release a statement on Thursday in support of Randolph.

Randolph has a long criminal history. He was convicted of battery and sentenced to house arrest in 1997, and spent time in a juvenile detention center in 1999 for selling a stolen gun.

Three years later, he was arrested on charges of underage drinking, and faced charges in Portland after police said they could smell marijuana coming from his car.

Randolph's latest arrest was in 2009 on charges of drunken driving in Los Angeles.

The high school basketball star grew up in Marion and attended Marion High School, where he helped lead his team to the 2000 Class 4A State Championship.

After playing one season at Michigan State University, Randolph was drafted in the first round by the Portland Blazers and went on to play with the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Clippers before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in July of 2009.

I'll take 21 and 12 any day of the week but he might not be playing next season.

I wouldn't want him on our team even if he was 25/13. The guy is boneheaded and still an offensive black hole. I dunno how good he would be for our chemistry either.

I'd rather have D-Lee. He put up 21-12 playing with Chris Duhon imagine his numbers with playing with Nash. :o

He can rebound and isn't afraid of shooting a three. Problem is, he should be afraid of shooting the three.

Even if he doesn't put up better numbers with Nash, I'm fine with 21-12. He seems like a good locker room guy and is a proven SSOL compatible player.

If you all think that Stern isn't banning this guy for life, you're insane. Randolph is going bye-bye. What an idiot. Completely ruined his life to become Mr. Big Shot with the crew. These guys watch way too many Gangster movies.

Honestly, my first thought after reading the wiretap title was: "man Anthony Randolph had so much promise, what a hit to his career." Then I read the actual article and thought, "OK not Anthony Randolph, I don't care."

What an idiot. As a couple people said, why in the hell do you need an illegal income when you have an NBA contract??

NBA players are notoriously bad at managing their money though, something like 60% go bankrupt after retiring/leaving the NBA. So get a damn financial advisor and don't put your name into illegal crap!

Not to mention, given his salary, for this to seem worthwhile at all to him you'd have to think he'd be moving hundreds of keys - he could be HUGE.

I should clarify... If convicted, I think he gets a lifetime ban. Stern has been cracking down hard to protect the image of the NBA. I don't see him letting this fly at all.

i dont think he can be connected to the illegal drugs simply because he owns the car where they were found. of course, the police likely have other evidence to establish probable cause and an investigation, but i didnt see it when i skimmed the article.

and you guys are right - it seems crazy that he would be selling illegal drugs to make money. so crazy that i think its safe to stay skeptical that he is actually doing that.

he might be guilty of a crime here, but i seriously doubt he was 'slinging' pot. its even possible he will be found guilty of distribution based on the use of his residence and property for this purpose, but i think the burden on the prosecutors to establish that he willingly facilitated the distribution of marijuana is pretty large. that is, i think its large if you can afford good defense attorneys, which randolph can.

He does have a huge entourage apaprently and I would assume he lets them use his cars whenever. I could see a season long suspension just for being this involved, but unless there's hard evidence that he knew of what was going on and either approved or did nothing, then it would be hard to punish him. So far all we know is that he's been "implicated" in a case related to marijuana suppliers, he hasn't been proven to be the supplier only that he's been implicated.

"the burden on the prosecutors to establish that he willingly facilitated the distribution of marijuana is pretty large."

It will be tough.
