Team Draft Board

I'm not sure how useful everyone will find this tool but I put it together over the last few weeks for fellow draft nerds and didn't want this to get lost somewhere on page 546 or something of the current draft thread on the Suns board.

At this site (http://www.arizonatribe.com/suns) you can create a draft board (presumably for the Suns) of the players you like and if you were GM what your draft-day board would be for which players to target when picks 46 and 60 (whoo-hoo) roll around. Also, if you want to go really deep with it you can make a full mock draft.

Mainly though, this page is a utility to getting all the information you need about the 80+ prospects that could realistically hear their name called on draft day. Links to draftexpress and nbadraft.net scouting profiles, a link to the ESPN stat page, an embedded youtube clip and general stats about each player with several sort filters to figure out quickly who's tallest, smallest, longest, etc.

Your team draft board prints its code into a textbox in the corner as standard html code, but there is a checkbox below to change that to BBCode so you can post it in this message board. Also, there's a checkbox to include youtube links so that if you post your draft board here, the links to the youtube clips will be preserved.

To keep in line with what the mods probably want you might want to throw your draft-related discussions or a draft board you create into the draft thread they've stickied.

Optionally, for your draft board you can checkmark player qualities checkboxes to abbreviate qualities that you see in the players on your list as that may help others see why you chose that player(s). Here's a legend for those abbreviations:

I tested this in firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome and the Droid, but if you find any bugs please send me a message and I'll try to fix them. One minor note is that a little less than 20% of the players have their youtube clips restricted from playback on an embedded page, so for those you just have to click the link to take you to view the clip on youtube.

Jordan reminds me of Ryan Hollins a bit. I only saw his game vs Duke this year and Zoubek kind of outplayed him in that game and Jordan was in foul trouble or getting outmuscled for rebounds most of the game. I'm sure I just caught a bad game though.

I think there's no denying too that Varnado would be a steal if he drops to 46th in the second round; that guy is going to be an awesome defensive Power Forward. Varnado could also be an easy fit here in Phoenix considering the team and system he comes from at Mississippi State: high volume 3-point shooting team that gets up and down the court and runs a lot of high screen-and-roll to mix things up.

Btw, thanks for the feedback.

This is FANTASTIC! Seriously, great work arizonatribe!

46th Pick:
  • Derrick Caracter - MSL, COS, PUO
  • Jarvis Varnado - RBD, ATH, QCK, LEN, HGT, BLK
  • Dexter Pittman - LEN, HGT, MSL, PUD, PUO
  • Charles Garcia - ATH, LEN, COS, BLH
60th Pick:
  • Alexey Shved - STL, MRS, COS, BLH, PLM
  • Andy Rautins - CHR, 3PT, MRS
  • Sylven Landesberg - LEN, HGT, 3PT, COS
  • Luke Harangody - RBD, CHR, MSL

Correct me if I'm mistaken about anything. Also interested with Ryan Thompson, Kevin Palmer, and Edwin Ubiles at #60 but idk too much about them.

Yeah, as we get closer to the draft unfortunately I'm hearing more names that I never put into that 83 player list. I had forgotten about Ryan Thompson (Sacramenton Kings Jason Thompson's brother right?) and nearly all the names mentioned at the Suns team workout weren't in my list either. I do wonder if the list of no-names they invited to the workout aren't indeed a smokescreen to keep from tipping their hand though.

I think your assessments of those players on your list sound right. You can probably add Pick-and-Roll defense to Pittman (it amazes me how well a guy of his size switches over to guards on the perimeter and diverts them from the paint thanks to defensive footwork), Harangody does have some good shooting ability in the mid-range, and Alexey Shved is rated very well defensively in more areas than just steals (nbadraft.net has him as one of only 3 guards in their entire mock draft with 9 out of 10 in defensive ability, along with Avery Bradley and James Anderson). Sounds like a good list.
