LB to UTA for their TPE

It looks like UTA might be planning on using their $6.5 mil TPE, I believe that if LB were traded before July 1st, the trade would be based on his number this year $6.6 mil, which is the exact maximum a $6.5 TPE could fetch.

UTA gets Barbosa's speed and provides much needed help at shooting guard. Right now they only haev CJ Miles at the 2-spot. Barbs might actually get to start up there.

PHX clears capspace in anticipation of either resigigning, or if Amare decides to leave, it would give us enough capspace for a max-level player. Thoughts?

If we did that deal it would only be successful if Sarver actually shelled out the money to keep Amare and also Channing. That extra 6 mil would cover our bases with Amare and Channing and I am all for this. Barbosa hurt our team at times last year and I don't know if he can play well with Dragic in the backcourt. You'd think that tandem would be lethal off the bench but it wasn't as good as projected because Barbosa's inability to create for others, poor shot selection, high turnover rate, and limited offensive ability to switch directions mid drive to the basket. If I have to see Barbosa do another one of those straight B lines for the basket switch hands get caught up in the air then turn it over I might hurt myself. Just kidding.

I'm down for this trade. have Utah include a 2nd rounder as well and it's done

+1 but as as far as amare i think sarver doesnt want to commit years cuz he doesnt think amare can last long. I think not knowing what the new CBA also plays a factor.

Quick off topic discussion to keep in mind.

Chris Bosh has been interviewed saying he doesn't want to be a piece he wants to be the guy to come to a team and help them win a title. I find that very odd and bizarre and honestly immature. You need rings man don't complain about being a role player.

But he says he wants to be the man. Why not sign in Phoenix? You'd be the main piece and we can contend for a championship right now. Say we deal Barbosa and let Amare walk we can sign Bosh to a max deal and possibly still sign Channing as well.

I think we'd be an even better team with Bosh than Amare in 2011.

We should make a strong pitch to Bosh that he'd be the guy in Phoenix the man give him the perks whatever the girls in scottsdale make it happen.

Chris Bosh to Phoenix!!!

If Boozer leaves and they need more offense, I can see it being a possibility. However, I don't see them using their TPE for LB if Boozer stays, which will put them at/over the luxury tax. Keep in mind they basically dumped R.Brewer and Maynor because of the luxury tax. They'd have less talented but more affordable options in Price, Gaines, and re-signing Matthews. Also, LB doesn't strike me as a Jerry Sloan player.

So we get rid of one prima donna for another?

Sounds good but its not happening -- LB doesn't pl;ay enough defense and on offense, turns the ball over way too much for a Jerry Sloan team. Also, I am guessing it costs the Suns a first round pick. So that would meaning trading a 4th first round pick in the Sarver era to get a team to take a contract (one for Googs, two for Thomas and this would be the 4th); not to mention all the other first round picks sold for cash.

I get that first rounders are overvalued for the most part (witness this last draft) -but there comes a time when you have to keep them. Granted, for the next 12 second rounders, I would do the LB trade

I saw that you posted this in the trade thread and the one Jazz reply you got mentioned about being thin in the PF/C position. Couldnt we also throw in either a re-signed Lou or Taylor Griffin? They both seem like Sloan type of players and they are both white!

It would be PERFECT for Utah! :D

Never mind, the TPE can only be used for a single player. :(

I'm sorry, but if we had Bosh all these yrs instead, the org wouldn't be so reluctant and he would've committed to us.

Seem to make sense on both sides.
Why not?

Sign and trade Amare for Boozer, trade Barbosa to Utah for their TPE, use the TPE to get Rudy Gay.

Nash/Dragic
Richardson/Dudley
Gay/Hill/Clark
Boozer/Lou/Lawal
Lopez/Frye

Or is that not possible or doesn't make sense? Sorry I'm a little inebriated

Use TPE to get Gay? How? TPE is only worth $6.5m.

Barbosa for TPE would only be good if it led to resigning Amare.

He's currently making 3 million I'm sure he would take double what he is making now and come to a contender.

I think what he means is for capspace. With Amare leaving we would be below the cap. Sending out Barbs, would give us an additional 7.1 mil off of next years committed salary. We would be approximately $19 mil under the cap after losing Amare and sending out Barbs. We could actually go for a Max FA or split it between a guys like Boozer and Gay. I think $19 mil will be a little short to split on Booz and Gay, but we could attract two 9.5 mil guys, which could be pretty good.

The elephant in the room is that we could even try to make a play for LBJ to join up with the highesest winning team that would be vying for his services. Nash, Richardson, Hill, LBJ, Lopez is a pretty strong lineup. It's like giving Amare an outside shot, a load of defense and tremendous passing ability, while only giving up some low-post scoring. The crazy part is LBJ can play back-up point for us at times too. I am struggling to figure out if CHI team with two maxes would be better than ours with one. The other option would be a late push to drop Richardson for pure capspace on one of the teams that won't be a player, and then give us the room to go for 2 maxes also.

Send LB to UTA, and Richardson to Minny then throw max money at stoudemire and wade in PHX, or stoudemire walks and throw the money at LBJ and Bosh, or LBJ and Wade. All of those give the FA's the best chance of winning over joining CHI, NJ, MIA or anyone else. The advantaage is PHX is we have a superstar that doesn't take up that much cap room in Nash. Nash accepting less money allows PHX to add other quality players and still afford 2 maxes in this scenario. The chances of this are remote, but I think the fundamentals of making this happen are sound.

Gay is going to be well overpaid in the the open market. People say he could be going for $12m.

LOL @ the $6.5m offer.

He doesn't fit anything Sloan likes in a player. He's too soft and turns the ball over too much.

No, trading Barbosa for the TPE would be addition by subtraction. I doubt Utah is dumb enough to do this deal, but it would be a great deal regardless for the Suns to be able to unload the cancer known as Leandro Barbosa without getting any salary back. Hope to god Utah is dumb enough to do this at the last minute.

Hyperbole there  , but he's undoubtedly a court cancer at times because of how low his bball IQ is, how bad his defense is, how much worse he really is at ball handling compared to how good he thinks he is at ball handling, and all the dumb, rushed shots/passes he makes. When Dragic was doing everything he could to rally the team back in the 4th quarter of game 6 against LA, it was in spite of the dumb shots Barbosa was taking.

Barbs used to be out backup PG, ahead of Banks, as well as our 6th man for instant offense,. Now, he is more one-dimensional than Frye is accused of being and we really haven't gotten much use out of him for two years due to family things, injury, etc.

He's very expensive for what he gives us - it's too bad; I think either Tastic or Rsavaj called him "our spirit animal" and I agree that he was a huge part of the chemistry of previous teams - but this year he often did as much harm as good when we put him in. He's an expensive guy to keep for inefficient scoring and old time's sake.

That said he had a rough couple of years and might bounce back, but i think I want him to do that somewhere else.
