Would you guys want to keep him. I think that is the only thing missing in his game. He would never be a post up player and who cares considering he is 6'11 and shot 44% from three! Like someone said, "those guys don't grow on trees." He still is a mismatch for other teams. He clears the paint for or PG's to operate. Frye had a lot to do with Amare operating, just as much as Amare for him. Do you guys remember the replay (during the Laker's series) when Nash got a layup because Frye's man had to stay with him? The announcers made a big deal about it.
Would you guys be patient enough to give Rolo a year to play our interior guy offensively, saving us a ton of money instead of trying to replace Amare? I would like to move LB so we can develope Clark at the 3.
Nash/Dragic
JRich/Duds
Hill/Clark/Duds
Frye/Gani/Clark
Lopez/Jones
plus Amare cap. 2011 JRich cap. 2012 LB and Nash cap. possibly a good young core and a lot of money to spend after only two years.

By mid-year Frye had begun changing his offense up and putting the ball on the floor somewhat. Didn't happen a lot, but enough to prove that he can do it effectively. He needs to be encouraged to do more of it.
And, though I may have already said this too many times, for a guy who's game is just naturally "soft", Frye showed a lot of heart, playing hard on defense and fighting for boards. If Stat had that kind of mentality ...
Not to diminish what Amar'e did in terms of upping his defense - he did work harder and more consistently, but even accounting for blocking out so that others could rebound, his totals were awfully damn low
I really am starting to believe that we'll be okay without him if he leaves. PHX is still a very desirable team for a top FA. As noted elsewhere if we could move Barbs - yes, Frank, I know - and free up Amar'e's salary, and if the FO were willing to spend that money -
and if my aunt had balls

Yeah Frye would be a solid big man if he worked on driving to the hoop and diversifying his offensive game. Frye is important to this team I feel. We should try to keep him and unfortunately guys Amare is gone we need to face the reality of the situation. Amare is gone we should ship Barbosa out to clear cap space and Lou is probably gone he's not needed anymore with Lawal here who'll be a more talented Lou.
Clark will get more minutes and develop and he'll do well next season I feel like. The guy is a player you'll all see.
What do you guys think of trying to land Boozer if Amare leaves and we shed Barbosa's contract somehow?
I'd like to see him here. Sign Ryan Gomes as well resign Frye
Nash Dragic
J rich Dudley Scottie Reynolds?
Hill Gomes
Boozer Clark Lawal
Lopez Frye Collins
Amare's 17 mil will come off the books Barbosa would shed 6 mil if we could get the TPE for him from utah that'd be 23 mil gone I believe. However all in all that only really clears like 15 mil in cap space or so so sign Boozer to a 13 mil a year deal give Frye 3 mil or 4 mil a year and sign Gomes to a 2 mil a year deal

If Frye signs for a reasonable amount, I think he could do well.
But it's likely someone will overpay him, not challenge him to do more than shoot 3's, and ruin his career by doing so.
Which makes me sad.

What if Amare just learned to play defense and rebound?

I definitely wouldn't mind giving Yi a go. Look what Steven <Chip Douglas accent> did for frye and TT.

im happy to keep frye, I think his shooting was great with spacing the floor, he was a suprisingly good post defender, and he can put the ball on the floor. his post game is his weakest spot tho
I just dont want to pay him MLE type money. If he wants to stay for 3 years 11 mil - then sign him up

MLE money is crazy for Frye. I hope we keep him for around $3m.

I don't wanna come anywhere near MLE for Frye. Not even $3 mil, personally. I do agree that he's shown flashes of competence going to the hole but he'd still be a utility guy - a long range big man. So we can't put too much stock in him - with him instead of putting his money towards someone a bit better, our big man rotation is not too impressive.

I'd like to keep Frye. I'd be willing to throw $2.5 million his way.

I guess we won't resign him. He'll get more than that.

Although JMac, just because I'm not willing to spend it doesn't mean much...I'm in the minority probably, being that cheap about Frye. Although I guess Sarver is cheaper than I am

He makes our system work so well when he's hitting his shots and I don't think you can spend $2.5m any better anyway. You might be able to get a decent post defender with no post game whatsoever or a backcourt defender with no shot for $2.5m but neither would have the impact on our system as much as Frye does.
I think his 3PT shooting can be replaced but he's a great fit for this team. We should resign him if Amare comes back. If Amare doesn't resign then let Frye go.

I agree with you. I don't want to give him that much. Sarver won't give him more than 4 yr 16 million

His production was similar to Okur's IIRC, so I think market value-wise, MLE is pretty fair.
I wouldn't be happy paying him more than 4 million, but he has a very unique skill-set for a big.

if frye works on driving to the hoop, we have no advantage with him.... if we dont have amare, our system with frye doesnt work!.... frye spreads the floor (taking 3's) so we can get amare the ball on the inside. if STAT leaves, who are we spreading the floor for?? Rolo?
let him walk and get another big who can muscle his way in for rebounds and play aggressive d. leave the 3s to the guards and dudley! no doubt, theres an affordable FA that would better suit our program.
i hate all these players that have a crap career from the start and then come shine in phoenix then leave the next year for more money.... its our format, coaching and nash that make them look good.
