Hey I am moving to Phoenix and was wondering if you guys can tell me what the nicer parts of Phoenix are to buy a home in? So far the houses I have seen are on Baseline Rd. west of I-10. Is that a good area?

Nooooo. Anywhere near Arizona Mills Mall is bad news. In that area it gets nicer closer to the Ikea off the I-10 and Warner. If thats the area you're looking at I recommend going further south of Baseline.

NOOOO! stay far away from there. You need to tell us what you are looking for? close to work, views, urban, transit, new/old etc. I know more East and North metro area. I know my brother in law just fixed up a house in Chandler and it is for sale.

Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert, North/northeast mesa, some parts of tempe, central scottsdale, Arcadia, central historic districts in Phx. It all depends on price of course. You can look at new built/foreclosures and get a steal.

How far west are you talking? A bit Southwest of I-10 and Baseline is a decent suburb and I know someone who just got a house near 27th Ave and Baseline and the area is nicer than I thought but a lame commute.

If you'r talking on Baseline and near I-10 then yeah, that area is pretty crap.

Stay away from the southwest Phoenix. MVF and his goons hang out there.

The Eastside is blowing up with some really nice places. Great area for family (if that's the case). If you're single and in your prime i'd suggest Scottsdale/Tempe. Can't think of a worse time to move here then July, if you're from Vegas you know all about that.

the place I was looking at was about 5 west of the mall on Baseline. the condo was super nice and very affordable but the realtor would never tell me about the area and what kind of neighborhood it was. he kept sidestepping those questions

 at some people thinking the westside doesn't have any nice areas...

Check out the Garden Lakes community in Avondale, you're only a few minutes away from where Westgate and UOPS where the Coyotes and Cardinals play, a few minutes away from EMCC a nice community college and a few minutes away from the I-10 and 101 freeways which take you anywhere in the valley.

MVF is the resident goonie of the board, and the realtor can't give that kind of information out, which is why he/she was side-stepping it. If any one of his/her higher-ups was to find out they give you that information they can/will lose their realtors license. Tempe/Scottsdale/Chandler/Gilbert are good places to look.

Since the guy is working on the east side of town, maybe we should avoid recommending places in Avondale, yes? :D

Boogeyman, I don't know how old you are, I'm guessing pretty young, so you can't go wrong "mingling" with the students from ASU Tempe, which is pretty close to Camelback Mountain.

There are plenty of good condos for rent in North Tempe / South Scottsdale areas, avoid South Tempe / Arizona Mills locations though, not exactly the greatest of locations.

I live in S. Chandler; huge house, very nice neighborhood, and only one foreclosure that I know of in the past 5 years. I'm moving back to Southern Cal next year. You can buy my house in the spring when I put it up for sale. I love Chandler, but Phoenix is BORING as hell!!!!!

Well, JMac is right... the City and surrounding areas as a whole are pretty boring....

The fact that many "fun" places in Scottsdale and even Tempe are all closing up shop... Mill is just a shell of its' glory years.

I also used to live in the Chandler area (Near 202 and Alma School) and that was the most bored I've ever been. City closes down at 9pm...

The best part of Phoenix??? You are close enough to go to San Diego and Las Vegas for a weekend trip.
