We'll we've already our used our MLE on Frye... sigh...

(I still think that our FO could have avoided using the MLE on Frye by simply extending his current contract with a signing bonus up front.)

We can't use any of our TE because, since CHA is waiving him (and thus, renouncing his rights), they have nothing to do a S&T with.

That leaves us with our BAE, which Dampier is sure to get more than.

I ran some numbers to validate my "Frye Theory" as stated above.... the results may shock and surprise you. If you have a heart condition or are pregnant, the following may not be appropriate.

Frye's Current Contract
Year 1 - $5,200,000
Year 2 - $5,600,000
Year 3 - $6,000,000
Year 4 - $6,400,000
Year 5 - $6,800,000 (player option)
Total - $30.00 million

Frye's Contract in Sun Scorched's Dream World Fantasy Land
Year 1 - $2,149,200
Year 2 - $5,765,000
Year 3 - $6,370,325
Year 4 - $6,975,650
Year 5 - $7,580,975
Total - $28.84 million

"But how is this accomplished?" You ask... If Frye had picked up his option this last year, instead of opting out, he would have become an "early bird" FA for the Suns capable of a 5-year deal at the full MLE starting the following season....

Same thing he has now, right? But delayed one year... Wrong. The Suns could then have included 10.5% annual salary increases in his contract instead of the standard 8%. This is what enables us to get so close to his $30m figure over only 4 years.... and there's the rub, we could extend him an additional partially guaranteed year/player option/ETO to cap it off.

This would have allowed the Suns their full MLE. Not that we would have used it, but it would have been there. Essentially, instead of using the MLE exception to sign Frye out of free agency we could have used the Early Bird exception to resign our own FA.

Fantasy world it is lol. Frye did the smart thing and re-upped when his value peaked, if he had waited another year there's a chance he won't get MLE money (injury, playing worse, we trade for someone else etc etc). He did what anyone in his position would've done.

Frye would have only had to enter the final season of his contract (this season) in order to re-up at those terms.

What get's me is that we were simply trying to sell him short. Clearly, we thought we could get him at a discount (why? I don't know) and instead let the market bid up his value.

The Suns need to be a bit more pro-active.

If they wanted Frye on the team and were prepared to pay, they should have approached Frye with something like the above which is both beneficial for him and the team.

Frye strikes me as the kind of guy that would have accepted the above deal without testing the market. He likes PHX, likes the players, and it's still a massive payday.

Under the above scenario, if I was Channing, I would still have pushed for that extra year. No sense in not trying at that.

WTF....um.......... I would love to get Wallace in a Suns uni, but I don't think that is a likely scenario for us. I think CHA would ask for more from us, or drop the pick, and also add value from our side.
