Suns Waive Atkins
The Phoenix Suns have waived guard Chucky Atkins, the club announced today.

The 5-11, 185-pound guard appeared in three preseason games for Phoenix and averaged 1.0 points and 1.7 assists in 11.3 minutes.

Atkins is an 11-year NBA veteran who spent last season with the Detroit Pistons. He was originally signed by the Suns on Sept. 27, 2010.

The Suns’ roster now stands at 16. Phoenix can carry as many as 15 players and as few as 13 during the regular season.

Tomorrow night the Suns face Utah at US Airways Center at 7 p.m. in preseason action.

Get to the Game on Friday, October 29th when Your Phoenix Suns tip-off the 2010-11 regular season at home against the LA Lakers. Fantastic seats for single games are still available. Purchase your tickets at Suns.com or by calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX.

Pretty much expected, i suppose.

So the last guard spot is between Dowdell and Janning now.

Aww, that's too bad. I like Atkins, but you gotta go with youth over age here.

Well it's good to know our scouting department isn't blind. He's too old, his s**t's weak

It was odd to see us pick him up in the first place, but then I thought it was a Kobe move. Reason being, Chucky has played Nash fairly decently in the past, and maybe Nash didn't want to face him. Easier to have him on your team than face him. Like the Lakers picking up Artest, then Barnes, trying for Bell, so Kobe wouldn't have to face his toughest foes. Who knows?

Best of luck to him, and I hope he taught some of our youngsters things while he was here.

Most likely how to brick shots and run an offense into the ground, by the showings he gave in the preseason games...

Well I only saw one game so far, and unfortunately it was the TOR game, but Atkins showed a toughness on defense that I hope our youngsters picked up on. Little vet tricks that he might have on the defensive side, would have been great for guys like Goran. As for the bricking, well most of the team has done that all by themselves. Besides Nash, none of the pgs showed anything in ways of running a squad.

Dowdell, Jannings? No debate, right? Jannings gets the spot.

Dowdell has hardly distinguished himself as a PG so right now he's just a chucker in a PG's body. Jannings thanks.

Saw that coming. Now we need to just sign janning. I hope he gives a better performance this time around though, he looked bad against the mavs.

He is actually signed already. The only guys that don't have a salary next to their names are Siler and Dowdell.

I think we should keep Janning as well. He has a good stroke, and a good motor. He can get playing time in the D-League, and practice with a two time MVP when he isn't. The only problem I see is he a sg in a pg body. But if he can learn from Nash.

This can't be a serious post. Nash didn't want to face him? Really?

It was a half joke, mainly just to point out how the Lakers keep getting guys that Kobe didn't want guarding him. :D

Am I the only one who thinks the Matt Barnes signing is over-blown? IMO, he's the most overrated role player in the NBA. His shooting and defense are both vastly overrated. Anyone can fake a pass at Kobe's face....That doesn't make him a tough guy. Neither does beating his wife.

Seriously though, I think it's telling that playoff-calibur teams are always going after this guy, and then letting him leave for another team once they realize what the deal is.

Matt Barnes s a decent player who does a lot of the dirty work and can give you a little here and a little there. I don't think he's overrated as a player (he isn't getting paid that much) but I do think him signing to the Lakers is overrated and overstated. He will help them but I don't see what the big deal is. Barnes is a guy who comes in and tries to do too much at times and when he's on, he's a heck of a player but when he's off, he's just a glorified hustle/energy guy.

You're right, he's not really 'rated', which is why it would be hard for him to be overrated. The only reason I think he's overrated is because really good teams are CONSTANTLY persuing him, which is weird IMO....Those same teams never have a problem with letting him go after one year. I'll never forget 2009, when the Suns played the Jazz; Phoenix playoff hopes hinged on this one game, and Matt Barnes sealed the loss by passing the ball to an OUT OF BOUNDS Grant Hill. Obviously the season doesn't come down to one game, but that was a critical time for us, and Barnes flat out blew it.

I really didn't care about the signing, just found it strange that they went after him and Bell, after getting Artest the year before. It completely seems like Kobe doesn't want certain guys guarding him. Barnes might do well for the Lakers, but I think Blake was their best pickup.
