Just pointing out the topic in the wiretap.

"Amare Left Because Phoenix's Window Was Closing."

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... right.html

"I wanted to make sure that we're looking forward to the future and being able to bring in other star players to help win a championship," Stoudemire added. "I felt that wasn't going to happen in that situation. I wanted to go to a team willing to build a championship quality team."

Sorry Amare, but where abouts did we finish the season? Does Western Conference Finals ring a bell?

I don't think he was talking about the window of opportunity but more about the willingness of Sarver to truly pursue a championship. I think he had legitimate concerns.

I took that wiretap in both ways like DRK and lilfishi mentioned. But I think (or I'd like to think) that lilfishi is more correct.

Clearly he didn't come back because of money, not sure why he thinks he can spin it otherwise. If we had offered him that juicy max length max money contract you think he would have gone to NY?

Amar'e left because we didn't think he was worth what he was asking, IMO.

Amare left Phoenix because of closing window

Amare left Phoenix due to closing window

Image

BOSTON - Amar'e Stoudemire relocated in the Eastern Conference for the same reasons Kevin Garnett did: fame, fortune, and the dream of an NBA championship ... but not necessarily in that order.

The difference, of course, is that Garnett was joining Ray Allen and Paul Pierce in Boston. Stoudemire came to New York armed with a $100 million contract but with no established second or third star.

But with the Knicks having enough salary cap flexibility to make a splash next summer in the free agent market and Carmelo Anthony sounding more and more like he wants out of Denver, Stoudemire is confident the decision to leave Phoenix was a wise one.

"From my standpoint it's longevity and being able to build a team for a championship-caliber team," Stoudemire said. "That was my goal in Phoenix."

Stoudemire added that with Steve Nash and Grant Hill in the twilight of their careers and the Suns' window closing, he needed to make a move sooner than later.

"I wanted to make sure that we're looking forward to the future and being able to bring in other star players to help win a championship," Stoudemire said. "I felt that wasn't going to happen in that situation. I wanted to go to a team willing to build a championship quality team."

The Knicks won Wednesday in Toronto and put their perfect record to the test Friday against the Celtics, who lost to Cleveland one night after beating LeBron James and Miami.

Mike D'Antoni is sticking with the same starting lineup that features two rookies, center Timofey Mozgov and shooting guard Landry Fields. Mozgov played just eight minutes and picked up four fouls. Fields fared much better, scoring 11 points and grabbing four rebounds.

Stoudemire gave himself a B grade for his 19-point, 10-rebound, 9-assist debut. He did score seven points in the last four minutes but struggled adjusting to the Raptors throwing two and three defenders at him when he had the ball.

"I don't think I'm going to face a one-on-one this whole year," Stoudemire said following Thursday's practice at Emerson College. "I have to be more of a facilitator and get the other players involved."

D'Antoni also feels that Stoudemire has to trust his teammates, many of whom have never played for a winning team. None has credentials comparable to Anthony, the Nuggets' All-Star who is apparently trying to talk his way out of Denver.

On Wednesday, Anthony told Yahoo! Sports that he will not sign a three-year, $65 million contract extension before adding, "For me, I feel it's a time for change."

An in-season trade with the Knicks is possible but not likely since the Nuggets have made it known that they can get a better offer elsewhere. However, Denver also runs the risk of losing Anthony to the Knicks for nothing if he becomes a free agent next July 1.

"We're not hoping on anything right now except for us getting better," Stoudemire said. "Carmelo has his own situation and that's for him to take care of with his staff and himself and best of luck to him."

Well he took a big risk. It's not a given Melo will sign or get traded to New York.

If he would of returned to Phoenix they would of been a legit title contender.

Yes, he left the team that's two wins away from the finals(again) because he wanted to win a championship. C'mon Amare.

Seriously...if Amare just said "business is business" I would have been fine with it.

I guess the mighty wind between Amare's ears switched direction as it often does.

Enjoy the bright spotlight of the Big Apple and don't mind the maggots when the novelty of your arrival eventually wears off.

Good luck with your championship window

Funny Amare was not interested in helping the Suns build a championship team with his salary demands.

Lebron and Bosh took less but not Amare!

Pretty sure the Knicks haven't been in the playoffs since Amare has been in the league. You'd need a crowbar to pry that window open again.

While we'd still be fringe contenders with Amare around, and the Knicks aren't as good as we'd be if Amare stayed right now, he's completely right that Sarver's goal IS NOT centered around spending to build a championship roster, but to make max profit, being the ex-banker that he is. Amare just wound up growing tired of Sarver.

Of course the extra money on the table plays in as well, but Donnie Walsh has done an excellent job of getting rid of all the leftovers of Isiah's garbage and now has a nice collection of young talent on nice contracts, and a very cap-friendly roster situation.

They're in very good position to add on more talent then Sarver would EVER be willing to spend on, and as much as I'd rather still have him on the Suns, Amare made the right move from a personal perspective, just like D'Antoni did.

Great oppurtunity for him, and a risk worth taking. Knicks won't be up there yet, but there's a good chance that they'll be legit contenders soon.

Good points.

Let him talk, he pursued guaranteed money. "Building a contender" can also mean "giving me max money"

I don' t blame him one bit though, sarver FUBARED this summer

Amar'e is full of it, obviously. You guys took the Champs to 6 in a tough series, and we were a lottery team. We were willing to pay him, and the dude wanted to get paid.

We would have been contenders this year but not so sure about next season. Sarver has shown no interest in bringing in max level players even after Amare left so the concern about building a championship calibar team is pretty legit to me. Why do we never hear about the Suns talking about aquiring someone like Melo via trade?
I think after Nash and Hill retire Sarver will just load this team with mid level free agents and hope to make the playoffs as a lower seed.
