JOSH SMITH: Pulling The Trigger On A Deal?

Suns are mentioned as possible trade partner in which had interest for him in the past. 6th paragraph down on this link:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... eling-loveHawks potentially looking to move Josh Smith? Suns potentially interested? I'd do anything to see Josh Smith in a Suns uniform playing power forward alongside Lopez, Nash, and Hedo. Would make a nice team with height!
Only problem is only way you get this done is trade J-Richardson in order to make numbers work right. But you'd get Josh Smith as PF and can probably bring in a free agent shooting guard like Flip Murray for depth:
C Lopez - Frye - Siler
F JSmith - Warrick - Lawal
F Hedo - Hill - Clark
G JChildress - Dudley - Flip
G Nash - Dragic - Janning
That's deep.

Come to think of it - the only way Suns get Josh is if they give Hawks another power forward in addition to J-Richardson. Hawks need bigs.
They'd probably have to do Josh Smith for Richardson & Lawal or Clark - one of them.

we have a 5.7 mil TPE. We have allllllllllll sorts of flexibility with deals. We can help them save money now while not taking ourselves over the tax or give em something like J-Rich and Frye for Smith and Crawford... Frye could play center next to Horford at PF. Or J-Rich, Lawal (who grew up in Georgia and went to school there), and Dudley for Smith and filler. They need depth alot more than we do so Dudley could really really help progress a trade. Siler used to do training camp with them every year so there might be a reason why we signed him over Jones too. We have a wider range or contracts and player types than we did last year so garnering what they need will be much easier

i'd really wouldn't want to give up Jrich for smooth but there is no other way... we can't package any player with our remaining player exception... but the hawks have no need or space for jrich... plus they're gonna want robin so they can play horford at the 4

How about we try to sell Frye as a Center.
Frye + Hedo + 1st for Smith + filler

I would do that trade right now. The value of J-Rich's expiring will decline as more and more people start signing extensions, such as AL Horford today.

Ya know what... I'd be willing to give up Robin for him. Smith's only 3 years older, rebounds, defend's, blocks shots, while being an explosive finisher. Nash or Dragic plus him would get more offensive production, and we wouldn't be losing a whole ton defensively. We have Lopez to rebound, defend, and block shots...
I would propose Lopez and Warrick for him. Leave it management to ding out which picks we or they would include. If not Warrick, then EC and Dudley. Siler or Lawal (who I'd much rather just keep to be a backup) might be needed to buffer it but with our TPE, I think both would work
They have no need for a scoring 2 guard unless Crawford comes back, which I wouldn't expect... Lopez, EC and Dudley seem to be the most logical. A true center so Horford can play his natural position, a defender/shooter who can spread the floor and add depth, and a boat load of instant cap relief. They need depth at the wings bad. Their only real bench player is Crawford... If I were in money saving mode while still actually trying to win in Atlanta, I'd do this deal...
We'd be
Nash/Dragic
J-Rich!!! (extend the man!)/Childress
Hill/Turk
Smith/Warrick/Lawal
Frye/Siler (gross)... I'd rather play Lawal as an undersized center to be honest
Best part: We stay under the cap. Sarver would actually do it

wait... We can't package players with the trade exception?! Just saw that on the other thread. Are you sure? I thought we were going to use some of it to get Turkoglu until Jones was included in the trade, and LB would have already been part of it... Not to mention the Jazz traded Kosta Koufas for Al Jefferson, which hardly works money wise

Well even if J-Rich has to be traded, I think Hedo would get incorporated more into the offense and Goran would get more minutes. I doubt we'd drop off much, if at all in the wing scoring department

hedo needs to handle the ball to be effective, he should run with the second unit

Why do you guys want to trade Jrich? He's our best player next to Nash.
and Josh Smith isn't much of an upgrade.

Boozer was a S&T to the Bulls. it created a $14.4 mil exemption which they used to get Jefferson.
The suns used Barbosa/Jones to get Turk. the salaries worked out i believe. then they used the Amare exception to get Warrick and Childress in S&T. they still have $5mil or so left to use of that....but no they cannot combine it with a player to make a trade.
Additionally, the suns were going to use their exeption to get Turk originally....when the trade involved Charlotte. but when they backed down, they had to work with what they had. its very confusing, with pieces on TE trading hands

Do the J-Rich, Clark and filler trade for Josh, and use our other 5 million to pick up another shooting guard.
I would consider getting Jermaine Taylor from the Rockets. He is going to be cut to make room for Damp. I think he will fit very well i our system, as he is very very athletic and has a nice jumpshot.

Josh Smith is a gigantic upgrade over Turk at the 4. We can replace J-Rich's scoring easily enough. More Hedo (agreed he needs to go in the second unit) and Dragic would do it easily enough. Plus it allows Childress to play the 2 so Hedo can play his natural position. Smith rolling down the lane will open up all our shooters much more than having another shooter. He's not Amar'e, but of all the PF's in the league, he's about as close as you can come in terms of athleticism and speed. Plus he defends and rebounds. Both of which are huge, huge needs

Because Suns need a Power Forward badly. The only way to get Josh Smith is to give them equal salary back. This means Jason Richardson is the only trade piece possible.

Yup. Exactly.
You cannot use the Trade Exemption with other players and must only be used alone. You can easily use this for a shooting guard - or - simply sign a current free agent guard like Larry Hughes, Michael Finley, or Flip Murray. But that is not of issue since Josh Childress can be the starting guard and Dudley can be the backup. Plus more time for Dragic and Janning.
As for the Hawks trade - you can easily package Earl Clark and Jason Richardson for Josh Smith and one of their cheap guards (Jordan Crawford -OR- Mo Evans) to make salary match.
Get this done:
C Lopez-Frye-Siler
F Smith-Warrick-Lawal
F Hedo-Hill-Evans
G Child-Duds-Evans
G Nash-Dragic-Janning
