A mere week into the 2010 NBA campaign and the Phoenix Suns' season hopes have been annihilated for this year and many years to come. Superstar point guard Steve Nash has informed Suns management he's leaving the team permanently November 15 to pursue a political career in his native Canada.

Nobody freak out...it is a joke...the writer of the article is known for these hoaxes, see editors note:

Editor's note: Barry Friedman was a New Times columnist for more than six years, and in that time perpetrated a number of memorable hoaxes. His latest and possibly greatest, which he wrote under the pseudonym Manfried Barry, claimed gold had been discovered under the Scottsdale Galleria; national headlines ensued. Friedman has written material for comedians ranging from Phyllis Diller to Jay Leno and is a former staff writer for The Arsenio Hall Show. He's currently co-writing the bizarre syndicated science show Beakman's World for Columbia Pictures/TV.

Steve Nash is not leaving the NBA to enter Canadian politics.
A story appears at Phoenixnewtimes.com that says he's leaving the NBA, but it is simply a hoax, according to Suns beat writer Paul Coro via Twitter.

Pretty sick joke.

Anyway, I couldn't imagine Nash doing this anyway.

For retirement, it has happened before.

Yes, he can.

Anyway, I'm surprised anyone believed this. Even if it was a reputable author, it turns pretty corny when the article suggests that Lon Babby was "weeping uncontrollably".

Stupid. What kind of journalistic integrity is trying to get other news sources to pick up a fake story?? It's one thing to do something and then at the end of the article be like "just kidding", but to actually aim for legit news sources to pick it up is really underhanded.

Nash said today "although I plan on becoming Prime Minister, I'm not going to do that until I'm finished with basketball". It's fake, the writer used to write for comedy tv shows and websites.

Now that Nash is aware, be on the look out for him to announce his fake retirement on that date, he's funny enough to do that.
