The Nets are close to acquiring multiple first round picks that will be used in a potential trade for Carmelo Anthony, two people familiar with the situation told CBSSports.com.

New Jersey has agreed in principle to a three-team trade where the Nets receive a first round pick in 2012 from the Rockets that will be lottery protected according to the Houston Chronicle and an additional first round pick from the Lakers in 2011.

Houston would acquire Terrence Williams, while Joe Smith would be sent to the Lakers and Sasha Vujacic would go to the Nets.

The deal can't be finalized until Wednesday when Smith becomes trade-eligible.

New Jersey already owns Golden State's 2011 lottery protected first rounder, which would also be included in a trade for Anthony along with the two picks acquired in this trade and one of their own over the next two seasons.

Derrick Favors and Troy Murphy would also be included in any trade the Nets may complete for Anthony.

The Nets have received assurances from several people from Anthony's camp that he would sign an extension with the club.

The framework of the three-team trade came together on Tuesday, just two days after word leaked that Anthony would only sign an extension with New York.

According to a Yahoo! report, the Nets are confident owner Mikhail Prokhorov and Avery Johnson can convince Anthony to commit to the Nets in the long-term.

Houston picked up f'n Williams for nothing more than a damn draft pick !?!?!?!?!?!? I'm RAGING!

Maybe we can work a PHX/HOU trade?

Twill/Hill/Jeffries for Turk/1st?

It would give HOU a starting 5 of Brooks/Martin/Turk/Scola/Yao ?

It gives us a future of Dragic/Williams/Clark/Hill/Lopez .

Clark won't be in a Suns uniform after this year, I don't believe. Didn't the Suns pass on picking up his 2012 Qualifying Offer?

Yes they did, but with TWill and Clark being good friends and former College teammates i was sure that if we picked up Williams that he would help Clark step his game up more.

According to Marc Stein:

To make room for Terrence Williams' arrival in three-way w/Lakers and Nets, Houston to deal Jermaine Taylor to SAC for future second-rounder.

I'm going to pay to have you hypnotized, and the Earl Clark love will be extracted from you. He just can't play...

I believe that NJ is starting to make a push for Melo. I would not be surprised to see NY make a move soon. Randolph for Suns 1st anyone?

When was the last time we made out on a trade, especially to fill a need. If we got AR and kept Clark I would be at peace as a Suns' fan at this time.

Clark
AR
Lopez

Why the hell would we want Williams when we already have 8 small forwards?

Same thing here. NY has to make a AR move and make it now, to show Denver that they too have a 1st to throw in on trade. They said 3 western conference teams were inquiring about Randolph and the only team that they named were the Rockets. With them out of the picture now, i hope we are one of the remaining two.

New Jersey believes Melo will resign, but damn, the better be 100% sure, as i am reading they would send Favors/Murphy/Nets 2011 1st/Rockets 2012 1st/Lakers 2011 1st. That would be alot to lose for a 4 month Melo rental.

Geez Effing Louise. Morey is still one of the best GM's in the league. Terrence Williams for a Future, LOTTO-PROTECTED draft pick and we can't even get a sniff of a trade rumor to go around Williams.

Santa, all I want for Christmas is some Anthony Randolph on the Suns.

I know we have a surplus of SFs already but I
'd take a kid like TWill if available and then worry about the roster - we're already screwed and he's a great young talent. Why would it have to be the only deal we make?

It would have been doable to get both he and AR for picks that weren't likely to get us much anyway.

I really am disappointed in this FO - when teams like the nets and Knicks are so crazed with lust for a player ... seems a shame we can't get something out of it.

This happens year after year. Teams get involved in deals, which could've helped the Suns, but instead our front office is just sitting on their hands.

I wonder what our front office actually do? Sleep in the office all day?

People actually still have faith in our front office making moves that benefit our team and aren't completely lopsided against us?
