I could see the Suns trying to land a big name PF/C (Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, David West) spending a majority of the money on them. Not giving the Suns enough money to offer J-Rich a reasonable contract as he'd be pursued by other teams pretty heavily. But then I could see the Suns finding a player that has something to prove despite all the injuries in their career, basically giving them a second opportunity.
Suns lineup for 2010-2011
Nash/Dragic
Redd/Dudley
Hedo/Childress
Frye/Warrick
Gasol/Lopez

Imagine what the Suns medical staff can do for Redd. Shablam that would be a fun team.

Give me Tyson Chandler and Aaron Afflalo.

Nash/Dragic
Afflalo/Dudley
Hill/Turkoglu/Childress
Chandler/Warrick
Lopez/Frye/Lawal

Well if we are keeping the "Old" players to make a run next year, i would like to go after:

Michael Redd, Kenyon Martin and Kendrick Perkins. (Only if we can get them on the cheap-cheap).

Nash/Dragic
Redd/Dudley/Childress
Hill/Ball/Childress
Martin/Frye/Warrick
Perkins/Lopez/Barron

Over the hill team? Yes. But i think Lopez would still get some good minutes and learn how to be tough from Perkins. K-Mart is an enforcer (something we have always lacked). Redd could be had for cheap, but only if our voodoo medical staff can work their magic. One problem is that we have all "Good Guys". Our team is always smiling, having a good time. We need toughness. We need a swagger. We need players that arnt afraid to put people on their asses when the deserve it.

Well, thats my "Old 2 years max" team. Im going to check some things out, then post my "Young and ready to gun for the next 5 years" team

PF/SF - Jeff Green OKC Thunder Restricted FA ($5.9mil) can play SF
SG - Wilson Chandler NY Knicks Restriced FA ($3.1mil)
PF - Zach Randolph Grizzlies Unrestricted FA ($17mil)

Nash/Dragic
Wilson Chandler/Dudley
Lopez/Thabeet (from an earlier smokin' trade 8-) )
Jeff Green/Hill
Zach Randolph/Frye

Somehow need to magically deal Hedo and either Childress or Warrick

I wonder what kind of market there'll be for Oden. I expect they'll be teams who think they'll be able to revive Oden and offer him something outrageous like $7m a year or something. I'd go for GO if we can get him for around MLE. Never been a big fan of Martin but he would give us a nice defensive post presence.

Assuming J-Rich leaves...

SG:
Marcus Thornton: great shooter. Will be the replacement starting SG

PF: Luc Mbah a Moute, amazing defender and hustler. Good rebounder too. I would throw him 4 years 16 mill.

C:
DeAndre Jordan. Young, and good zize at the center position.

I don't think we can go safely and land 1-2 decent players.
That would not make us a contender.

Suns need to take some risk and get some lotto players
Redd+Martin+Oden all the way.

Nash/Dragic
Redd/Dudley
Turkoglu/Childress
Martin/Frye
Oden/Lopez

Yes, the Suns need a star, and that guy can be Marc Gasol. Dish him a good 14-16mil where the Grizzlies won't match it, so front load I guess. Then get someone like Redd. Suns would have a pretty tall lineup, and I'd put the Suns back to being a relevant contending team again. I'd still like to keep Clark because I think he has a unique skill set, but I can only see that happening if Hedo gets traded, if not, then Clark will most likely be gone.
And ewww at Arron Affalo and Tyson Chandler at PF. Suns need to go after a star, we have enough role players on this team.

Jeff Green, Aaron Afflalo and DeAndre Jordan...

There's no way both teams let Affalo, Jordan go..
Unless we offer a bad overpaying offer.

Aaron Afflalo and Marcus Thornton (if we decide to let J-Rich and Grant go we'll probably need a real SG

Zach Randolph, David West, Jeff Green, and Carl Landry

Marc Gasol, Nene, Tyson Chandler, Greg Oden, and Deandre Jordon

Green is an undersized PF. I would be only interested in signing him if we can start him at the 3, but we already have too many 3's.

I know Phoenix has a good medical staff, but they're not magicians. I think Redd is done.

How much for Chandler though? That would be interesting.

@Kerrsed...Kendrick Perkins just turned 26. He is hardly over the hill. I do think you would have to over pay to get him, but I'd much rather have him than Oden. Some players you need to just stay away from. Martin and Redd are on that list too.

I'd try to pry Diaw back... it would take another 5 yr deal for him, but with his skill set he can age and be productive. ink up Turiaff and one of Ajinca or Fresenko. Or, just sign Chuck Hayes and teach him to shoot. Get guys Nash can work with and we'd have our whirling dervish for another couple more yrs

Stay away from 12-14 mill X 5 for Gasol, Randolph, Nene, etc.

Trade this yrs pick on draft day, or select and stash a Euro.

What?

You've lost it Frank!

Suns are not among the contenders anymore and the ONLY reason they are hovering and competing is due to Nash... WHO IS 37 years old....

Sign up Turiaf?.... Diaw?.... WTF!

If Suns was a player away from contending... 2-3 year window again... It would be a NOT SO BAD deal to get Diaw... Turiaf...

But Suns have been weakenned severely.. and the KEY player is 37 years old...
Once Nash retires... or becomes a bench player.. The Suns can still try to run. But they'd be closer to the Warriors of the past...

Suns DEFINITELY need a new cornerstone.. or atleast a "transition" franchise player... Marc Gasol is one high potential.. So is Oden...

I cant believe some fans are still planning for a run... not to mention a 2-3 year run for the championship.. when the Lakers, Celtics, Heat etc are all stacked for the this season and next..

Suns NEED a new franchise player... and I think if they can get Oden for cheaps... he is worth the risk. 23 years old only and with Suns staff he CAN be minimum serviciable.
