As in, we're looking at 10-15 games below .500 by Feb. Would FO seriously consider a Nash trade? Grind it out and hope something falls in our lap next season when we have cap space (again)? How about Gentry's job security?

I'm just hoping we do figure it out and I am still optimistic, but being a realist, I want to think about what we would do in a situation where this season is almost all but done.

You think we will get 10 games below .500? That thought hadn't even crossed my mind yet. I just can't see a team with Nash on it being below .500 for too long.

I'm not wearing two pairs of orange shades here or anything, I just think the new guys will click sooner than later and we will start to roll. Also keeping in mind we don't even have Carter on the floor and I'm assuming he will bring a lot to our offense. Hopefully he brings something to the defense and our overall chemistry, but let's just start with offense cuz Nash is going to fall apart if he doesn't get more help...

Well this thread isn't really about whether I think this team will or will not go far below .500, but more about what we would consider doing *if* we do get into a situation where we're looking like a lottery team. ie, if we were sub .500, would we really consider blowing it up, meaning a Nash trade.

Robert Sarver is trying to profit the most from the team. He'll squeeze every last dime he can from Nash. As long as Nash is still there, he'll still be crowned as the former back-to-back MVP still playing like an MVP by analysts and TNT/ESPN will still broadcast Suns games.
He's still gonna make that paper. And if he takes a risk in not going over the luxury tax, but still manage to force the team into the Playoffs (similar to that miracle run last year), he'll make even more money. (National TV, tickets, etc.)

So, no, I don't see Nash getting traded. I hope he does if the FO doesn't show determination to improve the situation but that's not gonna happen.

Btw, where is Traxxe? Is he still believing in Lon Babby? Just wondering....

I think the suns FO decided to make this season an experiment when they traded for HEDO. I think they should tank it. Being a 7th and 8th seed does not help the suns future at this point. If they wanted to win now maybe they should have gotten an actual PF. Babby has being playing GM based on contracts not b-ball sense. the team has not sicked this bad for a long time. A steve Nash team has not sucked this bad his whole career leave it to babby and company to break his streak.

We're on our way to my prediction of 32-50. I think Nash will NOT be traded however.

The sooner we cut ties, the better. Sell high moron, Sarver should understand that. He missed selling during the housing bubble, he should take advantage now.

I would really enjoy a 13-16 team watching young guys get better, just like my Buccaneers!!! I keep telling you guys that. No one wants to listen. Nash is useless to us.

I have a hard time thinking this is the last deal they made this season, I would expect them to get a PF before mid Feb...or am I just being hopefull?

Amen. I don't see this team being 10-15 games below .500 in Feburary. Maybe I'm overly optomistic, but that's crazy to me -- I think they're back to .500 by Jan. 2.

I haven't looked at the sked so maybe there's a string of 'gimmes' where we assemble a winning streak at some point but right now, I think we're going to be a bit better than .500 - 45-37, something like that. What has been easy to do is forget that we've been playing with JRich, or his replacement VC. That's 20 points a game on average we're not getting. Prior to that, we were missing our starting center for the first 25+ games.

Even with full complement, though, this is a not a roster that will get it done in the west and we all know it. Even if they overachieve we're still looking at maybe 6th seed at best and a quick exit.

They could suddenly pull together, become great defenders as a team and ...... nah. I just don't see it happening like last year when they just blossomed after a weak start.

It's interesting that CHA is making Diaw available, though - they want expirings .... someone suggested Vc for Diaw and Tyrus. I may be a fool, but I like that


At any rate, as to the thread's question "what if they don't figure it out?" - we are still at least one move away from being done. I'm positive. FO may not want to do it again so soon on the heels of a big shakeup but I believe it's coming. It's not Nash, though, unless he demands it.

We've got draft picks, expiring deals and some decent talent at decent salaries - that's the good news

FO has a lousy track record of improving the team with trades.

Suns need to play the lottery because they are not going to get top new talent any other way.

Because they've done so well in drafts since getting Amar'e? Granted they haven't been in the lottery often, but still... I'd trust them to improve through trades more than improving through drafts for the next 4 or 5 seasons...

I'd like to be hopeful for that too.

Anyway, logic would say, yeah if we get stuck towards the Feb deadline, we should move Nash. But like someone said, I really have a hard time seeing Sarver and FO just trading him, without Nash pushing for it.

If its gets that bad, I hope they do. It'd kinda be selfish to have him play the rest on his career on a subpar team.

One thing everyone needs to remember is that we have played only TWO games with only two of the three new players, hell even Orl lost their first two games after the trade and they looked awful doing it, but now they are on a roll. So all this negativity is way, way too early..........

You're wrong about the part concerning Orlando. The first game was bad even then quite a few were hopeful. The second game they took Dallas to the wire and played a good bit better. New guys just shot poorly. The next three games speak for themselves. The Magic are playing like a new team.

I'll tell you what, if the Suns make even half the improvement the Magic made by game five, I'll maybe buy into this unrealistic optimism.
