Why would Nash ask for a trade?

Now, this is NOT a trade Nash thread or anything like that. I would hate to see him go.

But, for a couple of years now we have had people saying he should be traded to get a better chance at a ring. The thing I've always thought was, that he really does not have much of a better option than staying in Phoenix. Even now.

Let's see. If he asks for a trade, we all pretty much agree that it would have to be to a team with chances of reaching the Finals (or at least make a strong playoff run), right?

That leaves us with:

Atlanta
Boston
Chicago
Miami
New York
Orlando

Dallas
Lakers
Oklahoma City
San Antonio
Utah

Now, let's rule out the teams that already have an established point guard, because I doubt anyone would trade their young PG stud for a 37 year old, no matter how good he is. Boston, Chicago, OKC, Utah.

Now we have:

Atlanta
Miami
New York
Orlando
Dallas
Lakers
San Antonio

Orlando just made this huge trade, bringing in Arenas, who plays the point and Hedo, who we all just watched not work along side Nash. So they're out of the picture too.

San Antonio is out too. They already have their core of players and style. I don't think anyone ever imagines Nash there.

Dallas could be an option. But I highly doubt Nash wants to go back there with Cuban. Besides, they already have a pretty good PG and it looks like it's working so far. No need to fix that.

Lakers run a completely different system than the one Nash likes to play in. They are the two time champions. It wouldn't make any sense. And we would all hate him, right?

Now we have:

Atlanta
Miami
New York

Does anyone see Nash asking for a trade to any of these teams?

I just cannot imagine him wanting to go to Miami.

Atlanta and New York might be the ones making the most sense. But still, I don't see how NY would work out. He's already been there and couldn't get it done. Same coach, system and Amare. And they have even tougher competition now. They would have to get through Boston, Miami and Orlando just to get to the Finals.

I guess Atlanta would be the one with some chances, although they play at a really slow pace, have a terrible fan base, and still wouldn't be good enough to go through the East contenders.

That's pretty much why I don't see how he could ask for a trade. At least not until we go completely **** and run out of "experiment" options.

Thoughts?

Honestly, I been thinking the same thing. But personally, I see him going to New York. He lives there for the offseason, Mike D'Antoni is there, Amare is there, so I don't see why he wouldn't want to be there. But really, then wouldn't it just be the Phoenix Knicks (or the New York Suns)? Only way I could imagine New York to make a push is something like this...
Suns get-
Anthony Randolph
Raymond Felton
Wilson Chandler
Eddy Curry
1st Round Pick

Knicks get-
Steve Nash
Grant Hill
Hakim Warrick (or Channing Frye)

Again, I only see the Knicks being exactly what the Suns were the past couple of years, except, in the Eastern Conference, and possibly a worst roster (but essentially in a weaker conference.) I'm not looking forward to a tanking season, but this is probably the best the Suns can do, while giving up long term contracts. Actually, this is probably better than what the Suns can get from any other team...

Oh, but yes, I don't see any of those other teams making a push for Nash, except maybe the Magic. But they don't have much to offer except Reddick, who doesn't have much potential.

Exactly. I just don't think a weaker, older version of the SSOL Suns is smart at all. Maybe if they get Melo?? I can see that...although not this season. And then...there's the lockout too.

I've said the same thing all along. The possibilities just don't make much sense.

NYK or LAL. No other way, IMHO. Lakers 1st option, going f.ex. for Walton/Blake+pick

NYK: i see this trade only if they catch Melo right now

The Clippers make the most sense. They could give up Bledsoe/Aminu/Jordan/picks and still have a core of Nash/Gordon/Griffin/Kaman. They'd compete for the playoffs this year and be damned exciting to watch. Don't know if Nash could be sold on trying to make the franchise relevant for the first time, or living in L.A. Too bad there isn't a chance in hell we'll ever know.

Not sure if anyone brought this up but what about the Raptors?

If Nash goes there he would be like a god and sell jerseys and tickets. Plus I could see Nash wanting to go back to his native country to finish his career. Trade wise this also makes the most sense for the Suns, they have that close to 15M trade exception from the Bosh trade which they could use to take back contracts like Childress, Warrick, etc, a serviceable PG in Calderon and young talent in Davis and Derozan.

--- I could maybe see that because Jay Triano and Nash are very close - TO is also very near NYC

Right now I don't think NY would really want Nash all that badly, unless we were giving him away. Felton and Amar'e is working nicely - they do want a backup PG but I doubt Nash is ready to do that. It would surely have some attraction, both for Nash and the Knicks, but I really think Nash ends his career here based on everything he;'s said

Hmmm... may be Toronto waits till the draft and offers, lets say a top 5 pick for Nash... and keeps their trash, well, and their youth. Would be a nice way to start rebuilding, with perhaps 2 more picks. We'd have to find a PG to patch us up til CP is available 8-) Either way, Nash has to thumbs up it.

Oh, and I see him in Brooklyn before NYC

If the team trades Nash, getting a legitimate big man in return is a complete and utter requirement.

I'm seriously excited about the Brooklyn Nets - no joke. Someone posted a lovely proposed logo with the Brklyn Bridge - very cool

The only way I can see Nash asking to go is if the FO pisses him off in some relationship-ending fashion. and if that hasn't' happened yet ...

or if Hill is going with Nash.....I honestly think Nash and Hill are a package deal (if dealt which is unlikely)....Nash and Hill are like peanut butter and jelly at this point.

Please send along Dragic and Duds as well. Oh, and please see if you can get Lou there too. That way I can root for the Knicks and not miss a beat.
