Minnesota is Getting it Right

From the TNT crew last night:
Smith: Kevin Durant is a great enough player that his play is leadership. Webber: He can’t lead 12 people by himself. Just the fact that Kevin Ollie isn’t there and he’s with Connecticut, like those are things that I watched. Like you said earlier, you need bad guys on the team, or guys that aren’t the nicest. The Vernon Maxwells, other guys.I still think you need the same thing in the locker room. The average age on that team is 23, 24. They made one playoff series and they played the Lakers. Great. That’s great. They played the Lakers and they played them well in one playoff series. That’s all we’re going off of. Barkley: And you know, that jump between being a good team and surprising people to being an elite team, they’re not ready for that. Oklahoman
I have been saying it over and over again. The reason the Suns will never win anything is because they (fans and FO) want nothing but "good guys" on the team. I brought up Ron Artest and the Lakers to prove that we should be more concerned with the on the court than the off the court, unless the off the court stuff is going to keep the player off the court.
I don't care about Michael Beasley smoking a little weed or hanging out at a club for example. Look at the Wolves

we are all going to be envious of them in the near future....They have Love, Beasley balling, Millic;took a chance on him and gave him PLAYING TIME instead of expecting him to be better than Wade, Bosh, and Lebron. Now they are looking to take a chance on A Randolph....
Rubio
Flynn (Will get traded)
Brewer(Trade assest)
Love
Beasley (Low BBIQ, Drug user, crazy>so called by people here)
Randolph (see Beasley comments, but sub Drug user with baby, whiner, and Bust)
Milllic (already stated in post)
Add a pick and they will be a up and coming team, sucking like us, but getting better when their avg. age is 22
How did they get in this situation (hate to change the subject)......They realized it was over and traded their BEST player before it was too late............ Btw, KG was/is better than Nash and younger we they finally let KG go...

I am a big fan of the talent Minnesota has assembled but comparing how they have managed their roster vs. ours is not fair. Minnesota is not a destination it is a punishment.
Beasley was had for a second round pick. That in and of itself says something profound. Essentially if he screwed around in MN he could have easily found himself out of the league. I love his game. Have ever since his K State days. Such a fluid scorer. Reminds me a lot of Melo less the Nike hype. BUT....
1. Lets see if he can keep up this level of play and stay out trouble for more than a full year
2. If he does the above lets see how fast he tries to to bolt from MN
Love was drafted by MN and until this year did a whole lot of nothing. He posting incredible stats and so is Beasley yet this team is still losing. That begs the questions. Is Love getting these stats in a self fulfilling way or he is actually helping his team to victories? MN currennt record would suggest the latter.
Rubio was a great pick. We will all be shocked by how effective he is when / if he ever gets here. MN will be a 1 year stop off.
Bottom line is this roster has been assembled because they either drafter these guys or took a chance on them because no one else would. I dont want to be like Minnesota and I dont think Minnesota is getting it right.

^Agreed.
They have been a terrible team since KG left. I don't see them coming up anytime soon.

I just can't see how Kahn is getting it right - they did draft Love and they picked up Beasley cheap, all good moves. Considering how many picks they had they've done little else with them. Rubio doesn't seem to be in a any big hurry to go to a frozen wasteland and play for a lousy team.-They gave away the players they got for KG, for just about zero return
I like a lot fo the young guys but I can't see how they're "gettting it right"
OKC go it right - Blazers got it right, too, until they had such rotten luck

I actually have to agree with JMac here. The season before the last one KD was merely posting stats and poor FG%. The team was getting a top 5 pick.
It took them a couple of years with Durant. I expect also a couple of years with Be-easy. Great teams aren't built overnight.
Right now their future is better-looking than ours. They have at least 4 players they can develop into something, and that's even assuming Rubio refuses to play over there (Flynn, Love, Be-easy, Johnson).
We have Goran Dragic and MAYBE Robin Lopez. Oh and we sure as hell ain't contenders either.
And please, you don't call someone a fan of another team because he liked some of the stuff their management is doing.
I liked what Dallas has done by bringing in Tyson Chandler. I liked what Milwuakee had done last year in drafting Brandon Jennings. Do these make me a fan of the teams? No.
David Kahn is stupid, but you don't call trading a second round pick for Be-easy a stupid move.

Thanks. I am not saying that the Wolves are gods, but they are on the right track, how do I know? You just said exactly what I was thinking (about OKC) when I posted this. Unfortunately some people don't know they are getting screwed until the pullout......Sometimes it is good to only look at today, but in sports you have to be able to see the long term.
To everyone who said they are 8-25...What's the difference between that and 13-17...missing the playoffs is missing the playoffs... It's not like we are deep in the mix. I didn't make the panic thread, but some people do think there is a cause for ti.
As for attacking my fan loyalty...Typical Republican/Arizonian style. Don't criticize or you are unAmerican or unSuns' fan.....

I would say unbelievable but..........

Wolves are not doing it right... but they are on the right path... they can only get better and they have the players to do so....
C: Milicic
PF: Love
SF: Beasley
SG: Insert FA here
PG: Rubio (future)
Suns are in this situation because;
1. They do not want to be "bad" as long as Nash is on the team, they keep trying to compete. Hence NO potential YOUNG stud to develop.
2. Dragic is SOLID starter at best, he aint Ginobili mentally or have the balls to be like him.
3. R.Lopez is a 12 point 7 rebound center... at his peak..... not a franchise LEADING big man.
I said it...
Anthony Randolph... looks bad on paper... but the RISK is WORTH it.... 6'11 big man that once he gets it.... which is in due time.... will be very good.
Suns fans here do not want to part with a mid-to late pick? lol..

Neither us or Minnesota are contending, so why does the regular season record matter? Right now, we may have a better team than the Wolves, but at least they have the young talent and prospects for them to become title contenders sometime during the next 5 years.

This is exactly the point JMac and I were trying to tell everyone.
Signing Millicic to that long deal was probably a bad idea, but well, we signed JChill to a lengthy deal and are not playing him.
@ JMac
lol at the "don't criticize or else you're not a real fan/American" part

well, this gets back to the endless years of misery required to assemble a bunch of high draft picks - cf. Boston, Minny, Clippers etc. - and only Boston made any real progress, by dealing off their young talent ina bargain of a lifetime deal.
As stated, that's not an option while we have Nash, or at least we presume so. Honestly, at some point I can see nash saying yes to raising a new crop of Suns players. It would likely appeal to his sensibilities to be a coach-on-the-floor
So who's right, who;'s wrong in terms of management, I don't know - different cases
Do I envy the young talent some of these teams have? yes. Do I envy the horrible seasons it took to get them? No
Our track record, after the Mike D years, is
Alando T - gone
Strawbs - gone
EC - gone
RoLo - jury still out
Goran - solid pick
if we say that EC was a good pick that brought back talent in a trade, that's 3 for five

I'd rather be in the position that we're in, having contended for 5 of the last 6 years, and being set up with manageable contracts and personalities, than "have young talent" and "being on the right track" but continuing to be stuck in a cycle of perpetual worthlessness after the last God-knows-how-long like your Minnesotas, Sacramentos, Clippers, Nets, etc.
