Your ideal lineup for now ?

As it says in the title, I know we may have moves coming before the trade deadline but let's just put our thoughts and try to figure out what kind of lineup can give us W for the time being with the players we have.

Gortat - Lopez
Frye - Warrick or Childress (depends if we have to go smaller)
Hill - Dudley
Pietrus - Carter
Nash - Dragic.

I think that's the more balanced starting lineup we should use. The way I see it is that it gives Nash the room to lead this team correctly and have some flow in offense. Frye and Pietrus can stretch the floor so the pick & roll Nash-Gortat could be run effectively with more space to operate it.

Lopez isn't in good shape (doesn't mean we have to trade him) and Carter doesn't fit at all. I mean he isn't bad or good, it's worse he is useless in this team because like Hedo he needs the ball to create his own shot, get in the flow. The problem is we need a spot up shooter on the wing, Pietrus can do that while Carter absolutely can't.

Hill could have more space to get into the lane and attack the rim because Frye doesn't take his space ont the paint.

What do you guys think?

It's not easy. When I start with this, after short time I see a lot of problems... Only one thing is easy: rotation at PG...
Nash ========= Dragic

SG
I think Carter will play better at SF now: he's too slow for SG, but strong enough to fight with most of SFs. So, 1st option seem to be Pietrus, but... Dudley can play a 2nd position as well. So I have config:
Pietrus ======= Dudley
Dudley ======= Pietrus.
In some cases, Carter can play SG as well.

SF
OK. Suns have many wing. Oh, really? So, who will start? I reserve Grant Hill at PF for most of games, so we have JChill, Carter, occasionally Dudley, Pietrus. My 1st option:
Carter ====== Childress

PF
Even not so big and not so strong, Hill is the best PF Suns have in the moment. For me, he starts, over Frye. Warrick definitelly out of rotation.
Hill ========== Frye

C
Gortat ======= Lopez
or Lopez ===== Gortat

Well... Lopez's production is low. But... Gortat plays very well from the bench, too. He does'nt have to start, he just needs minutes. A 6th man like him is a treasure. We can start Lopez, Gortat can't play 48 mins each game... He has to play in the money time, starting is not a must.
Gortat can start when Suns will have a nice backup center.

As you can see, it's not so easy to pick up a starting 5. That are my first, hot impressions. I'll think about it again and again :)

Here's how I want it.

Nash/Dragic
VC/Dudley
Hill/Pietrus
Frye/Childress
Gortat/Lopez

Alvin Gentry loves to go small, so why not give Childress a try. He's a long defender, and seems more agile and mobile. What he lacks in size, we can make up for in fast break points and good defense. I think Gortat is still getting used to playing in big games down the stretch but he must remain in the starting lineup!

Dudley is perfect for the bench because he is instant offense, and besides the only 5 I want on the floor in crunch time are:

Nash/Dudley/VC/Hill/Gortat OR Nash/VC/Hill/Frye/Gortat. Depends on if we need size, or if we need points.

I really hope this team can get their act together. People are complaining, but I thought the Suns put forth one of their better efforts against the Lakers. It would make a big statement if we can win tomorrow.

Nash-Dragic
VC-Pietrus
Hill-Dudley
Frye-Warrick
Gortat-Lopez

PG is pretty much set in stone
SG VC and Pietrus should split the minutes pretty evenly
SF Hill should get around 30, Duds around 18
PF-C Go with whoevers playing well and rotate by quality of play, although Suns should get Warrick more mins as he seems to be the only one who can run the quick PnR

I'd like

5 Gortat - Lopez
4 Frye - Childress
3 Duds - Hill
2 Pietrus - Carter
1 Nash - Dragic.

3 3-pt shooters, 4 good defenders, 1 PnR partner for Nash, three decent rebounders

I like it. Starters can defend and score. Bench has veteran experience and extra ballhandling to help stabilize while Dragic is in.

Nash
Carter
Hill
Frye
Gortat

I feel this has a combination of Post defense and three pt shooting.

Crazy idea...take this same lineup, but switch Childress and Gortat.

While Nash is in:
Nash-Pietrus-Duds-Childress-Frye
SSOL, four-out, fast, LOTS of three point shooting, PnR with Childress, 2-3 zone with Childress on top for fastbreaks.

While Nash is out:
Dragic-Carter-Hill-Gortat-Lopez
Complete shift in style. Man-to-man, slow it down, double-post, veteran experience and ballhandling with Dragic, two players with midrange game who can create their own shot with double-post.

"But Hill can't come off the bench!!"

Start Dragic's unit. Shock the other team by bringing the sudden massive shift in pace late in the first quarter.

Starters:
Nash/Dragic
VC/Duds
Hill/Peaches
Frye/Warrick
Gortat/Lopez

VC and Hill should spend half their playing time with Dragic, to relieve some pressure from him when he is struggling.

Both lineups provide 3 3pt shooters, 1 PnR partner.

--- That would mess with some heads -

I was reading about the Knicks in 69-70 last night (because I remember the season so well - I was a Laker fan but I had to cheer for the Knicks, too. I loved that team.) Holzman put Debusschere on Wilt when Reed went down. Totally flummoxed Wilt to have a guy almost a foot shorter and agile, but very strong pestering him, fronting him -

Desperate times, desperate measures

I do think we got to stop playing a few people, no matter how good they are. There is just no room or time to give everyone a fair shake. We need to solidify rotations so guys can get comfortable with their lineup

man, last year we had them in and out like clockwork and we rolled
