Question about Earl Clark

Post#1 » by Nyce_1 » Sat Jan 8, 2011 1:52 pm

What was his knock in Phx? Why did management decide to not pick up his option?

This quote is from SVG on Earl:
"I think Earl is going to be a really, REALLY(!!!) good player. I really do. I think that he's offensively very talented; he has great quickness; he can shoot the ball; he can put the ball on the floor. He is a very hard working guy; he's the first guy in here everyday; he comes in on every off day; every game he hasn't played in, if you go in the gym, afterwards, he's workingout after games (10 o'clock at night). Like I said before, his thing is just a learning thing. He really, really needs to learn more of what we're doing; he's working hard at that. When understands what we're doing team defense-wise, I think he can be an OUTSTANDING defender. He can really move his feet; he plays hard. I love what he brings to the table, I really do."

Kinda surprised an organization would give up on a player this young, with that much potential.

We have too much talent on the team (you wouldn't know it by the record) so he never got time.
This year he played minutes in a few games and did well. But when Sarver should have just let him become part of the rotation, he instead added more salary that didn't help. So he was the throw in in the deal.

I hope he doesn't become a stud and we regret it, but I would still do the trade again being it meant getting Gortat.

that kinda sucks. You'd figure if he was showing good skills and effort in practice, the coaches would've taken note and given him PT.

As far as him becoming a stud, I can see he's gonna be really good under SVG. Young players don't really understand SVG schemes and breakout until year 2, but I can already see Earl will have a decent role in the playoffs. He's learning quick and he should get backup SF mins and spot PF mins; defending the likes of Bron, Pierce, Bosh.

It sucks you didn't pick up his rookie option and I hope we can keep him. Everyone loves him in Orlando and he's already said he wants to stay forever. But money always talks.

Too much unnecessary depth and he just got buried in it. It's unfortunate since I really liked him and had a feeling he'd be playing well for another team once he gets some decent minutes.

What is this I am hearing about his option not getting picked up, does that mean he will be an unrestricted agent after this year?

Too much depth at his position, didn't play well when given the opportunity.

Players who make more money are in front of him when it comes to rotation. Bench the kid being the solution.

He wasn't really given a fair chance to show his worth.

It's a joke. A knee-jerk reaction to completely sucking and having every move we've made since this summer completely backfire.

Earl Clark has zero potential. He's a bumbling thug kid who thinks he can ball, but he can't. He's more focused with the money and lifestyle of an NBA player than actually performing like one.

He'll never be an All-Star, hell, he won't ever even be a starter.

He sucks at defense, blows coverages all the time, has no offensive game, and a low b-ball IQ. That's EC for ya in a nutshell.

PS: Ginobiliflops, it's "No we shouldn't have" as in "No we shouldn't have done that" -- "No we shouldn't of" makes no sense.
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

Here's what you said right after the trade.

"He wasn't terrible. It just wasn't a good fit somehow. For 11 million a year, it was imperative we move his contract since this current team was going nowhere. I like how our FO can man up to their mistakes and fix it within a reasonable time frame."

Here's the link.

I'm pretty sure SVG said those for a reason....

I still like the deal in terms of getting a serviceable big man and freeing up some cap room and such. I'm not changing my tune. I'm just overall frustrated with this team mainly Gortat, VC and Pietrus who I thought would be better than this.

I'm glad you share the opinion of the PHX FO. The Magic organization say thank you for the "throw in". I think a coach who's been around bball his whole life knows a thing or two about talent. I'm a Magic fan and I've NEVER heard SVG praise a young player on our team like that, after 3 weeks of being in his system. Earl won't be an all-star but he'll definitely be a starter and big piece for the Magic.

No one knows if he would have been good or not, as some analyists said during the 09 draft, the guy had top 5 talent but dropped to #14 because of worth ethic and character issues. The only way to see would be to give him a consistent 25-30 minutes per game but it wasn't going to happen here.

I was hoping they would draft a PG but when #14 came around I said a guy like Clark would be the next best thing if they didn't, it's too bad it didn't work out here but it is what it is.

the only reason you saw hunteraxz's rant is because you'e not a regular here. everyone else has him on ignore. he was the resident Clark-basher for some reason. Clark humped his mom and then wiped his dick on the drapes or something

I don't hate Clark, I just think he's a scrub, and I have been proven right over and over again. You guys got your blinders on though.
