Suns desperately need to work out player rotations

Post#1 » by visions » Sat Jan 8, 2011 2:19 pm

All this talk of "we need a PF", "we need a rebounder", "we need this/that etc etc" is all good and well - and I agree with all of it - but I think we also desperately need the coaching staff to sort out the player rotations ASAP.

Last season the coaches looked like geniuses. This season they look like schizophrenics playing 2K11. One game Warrick gets 5mins, the next game 10mins, the next game 1min. Or Childress gets virtually zero mins for 2 weeks and then suddenly he's starting, in the C position no less! Then Gortat is a starter, then he isn't...etc etc etc. BTW I am not advocating that any of these guys gets more or less mins - that is completely different discussion - just using them as an example.

How are our players supposed to develop any chemistry or confidence with this mess? The only certainty right now is that Hill and Nash will start every game and play 30 or so mins unless they are injured. Everything else seems up in the air.

In comparison, by this time last season the rotations were pretty much set. Everyone had a defined role, you knew more or less at what time in games players were coming in or going out, who was going to finish games etc etc. I think the majority of the success last season was because of this.
Ok so we don't have 2 crucial pieces of last year's team anymore (Amare & Lou) but that doesn't mean we can't have a consistent rotation and good chemistry anymore.

Even before the Orlando trade the coaches seemed completely unsure of what a good rotation would be. It's frustrating enough as a fan but imagine how the players must feel.

I agree that there IS definitely NO set starters and role players... its like Steve Nash and Grant Hill as legit starters and then rotate the bench around into the Starting lineup...

Gentry is either over his head..
or management, Nash/Hill are giving him inputs on who to play....
