This is not a typical what trade would you make thread. This is not a what lineup would you do right now to turn it around this year. This is a thread to highlight Bruce Cooper's blog which can be read here: http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/B ... per/113846

I'm talking about how to make the Suns relevant again. We already know 2 things:

1. Suns are not making playoffs or going to be relevant this season.
2. We know Suns basketball is dead and Nash/Hill, despite their numbers, are not getting younger.

Question is - how are the Suns going to prepare themselves for the future? As Coop mentioned, Kings have loads of youngsters (Evans, Cousins, JT, Omri, Greene, etc), Clippers have tons of talent (Blake, DeAndre, Gordon, Bledsoe, etc.) and Warriors have a bit of both (Ellis, Curry, Lou, Lee, Biendris, Wright, Williams, Udoh, etc).

Suns are in the Pacific with a World Champion Lakers club - and 3 other clubs with insanely good rising stars. If they don't get their act together and do some good scouting for first round picks and solid young free agent signings - this team could be the worst in the Pacific for the next 3-6 years. Sad, but true...

we have always find a way to win, we will win again. not this season but the next.

but i agree, nash and ghill and carter getting older. and you feel that nash lost a step.

i disagree that we don“t have talent. we have jdud, goran, gortat..
just find a way to make lopez & carter in brand and / or iggy and see how it works.

Suns had a good run of 5 seasons of deep playoff runs...

its bound for them to hit rock bottom... it'll be longer than it should of been, because Suns didnt develop nor kept picks earlier on.

solution is...
- get a high pick this coming draft.
- do not TRADE for any patches.. meaning old players that MIGHT help the team... yes... they MIGHT help the team get a lower draft pick.. thats it. Playoff wise, Suns have little to 0 chance due to the amount of new players and lack of "fit".

- Trade Vince Carter's buyout contract for a YOUNG diamond in the rough player + pick.

- Go for 2 of the following FAs, Oden (5 year 45-50 Million offer), OR D.Jordan (5 year 55 Million offer)
OR M.Gasol (5 year 55 Million offer), Nick Young (5 year 30-35 Million offer), Michael Redd (2 year MLE). Thadeus Young (5 year 40 Million offer).

Establish a WELL balance approach... scrap the SSOL or any NO defense tactics.

- win around 30-41 games... and get another high pick player in 2012.

the team should start looking good for 2012+ beyond....

Damn, I'm glad you're not our GM.

I like DeAndre Jordan, but is he really worth 11 million a year over 5 years? At the moment, he has potential. He hasn't shown enough to get 11 mill a year. Those types of contracts screw the franchise over.

Thad Young is a nice young player, but 8 mill for 5years is too much as well, in my opinion. MLE is enough for him.

Lol

GMs in the NBA... the ones with RINGS... take RISKS.... calculated risks.... Being safe doesnt get you far... unless you're the Spurs.. who are just darn smart from the get go... the moment they got Duncan, they just got the correct players and mindset.

Deandre Jordan is 7'0, 40 inch vertical... and looks confident NOW...

If Bynum got 10+ Million a year... D.Jordan is looking at that too...

He'll be a 9-10 rebound 2.5-3 block a game center with tremendous length and athletism...

Its a risk.. But, you have to take it, if you feel that he will be a cornerstone to your team...
a defensive oriented center with size, length, youth and athletism... they are PRICEY... as everyone wants one.

Thadeus Young is 6'9... looks and plays similar to Gay... minus the scoring mentality.
And he is playing on a team which had PG issues and currently a second year PG in Holiday.
He is doesnt fit the team too much as he would for the Suns...
When Grant Hill retires, and Dudley becomes a full pledge backup SG, a rotation of T.Young and Childress at the SF would be pretty nice to watch...
I think he will develop further and be a semi-star ON the correct team.

Oden???? Why would the Suns need an 8-10 million/year guy to sit on the bench with bad knees? Dude's career is over, but some schmuck team will grab him and realize they effed up.

It is true. We have no young guys worth a damn except Goran/Dudley. I'm disappointed Lopez regressed this year.

There is a fine line between taking risks and giving out huge contracts, and being Isiah Thomas.
Don't get me wrong, I love DeAndre Jordan's game, but 11 mill a year is too much for him. That is just my opinion. I just wouldn't risk giving him that money. 6-8 mill is pricey already, 11 million? That's All Jefferson money there.

Again, I do like Thaddeus Young, and you have given some nice points about him being compared to Gay, although Young is no where near as explosive as Gay. MLE or just over the MLE is what I'll be willing to offer Young.

If we were to pursue a tweener forward, I think I would take Luc Richard Mbah a Moute over Thaddeus Young. MBAM is an elite defender and a good rebounder. I'm guessing he would be in the same price range as Young.

Oh, and I would like to point out, I didn't intend to insult you in any way with my first post, which after re-reading it, it sounded a bit harsh on my part. My apologies.

Oden is about 40 years old, sure thing. No, by God!
DeAndre Jordan - great prospect. But, still not worth +-10M/year at this stage of carrer. Too much risk. It's unproven talent right now.
Build on own picks is better way IMHO. Less risk, and less money to spend = more chance to assign a proven high level guy from FA to the roster.

Actually, I think Jordan is going to be a better player than Bynum, and I'd offer him $10 - great agility, strength, good hands - he's a good bet
