Breaking down the numbers between Robin Lopez and Marcin Gortat and answering the question, which center is more valuable to the Suns.

i dont think we are arguing that gortat and lopez are super star centers......... gortat is a defensive rebounding center and thats all he is..... he is still getting used to this style of basketball!i!!! lopez on the other hand has been in our system..... he is horrible and gets worse daily. we got him to be a defensive rebounding center..... he avgs more fouls then rebounds.... and a lot of this nonsense comparisons are look at there 36 min... thing u need to realize is thats if there consistently performing....... LOPEZ IS NOT CONSISTENT..... LOPEZ IS HORRIBLE... HE WASNT NBA READY OR GOOD AT STANFORD WHICH IS IN A CONFERENCE WHERE THEY ARENT KNOWN FOR CENTERS.. PAC 10 IS A GUARD STACKED CONFERENCE... GET THE POINT HE IS NEVER GOING TO BE A STARTING CENTER........... WE HAVE TWO BACKUP CENTERS..... BUT AS OF NOW GORTAT IS PERFORMING BETTER...........

Great article. The team rebounding margin is interesting.
I still think the sample is too small to pull anything constructive from, but it's an interesting trend.

GOOD ARTICLE yea.... but are you guys this (Please Use More Appropriate Word)...
GORTAT higher REBOUNDING AVG... and they say when he is in FRYE's is down.... YA because our main rebounder is in.... THAT TENDS TO HAPPEN
LOPEZ on REBOUNDING... other players rebound more... yeah because he TIPS it back... he should be playing like a center and going up for the rebound then grabbing it and putting it back up...... he is afraid of any contact....
....
GORTAT is new to the suns system and was only playing 10 minutes behind D12..... he is getting used to this .. and from the looks of it, gortat is getting better game by game.....LOPEZ just feels like he is in the way and a waste of space........
Gortat is an Average Center
Lopez is a Below Average Center.....

I have glasses

. I've had to wear them pretty much all day since I was in fourth grade.
And yet...I'm still thoroughly opposed to contacts.

Lopez sucks, and I bet Gentry thinks the same.

Lopez is 4 years younger and when healthy/confident very fun to watch. Centers usually need more time to fully develop. Give him time.

Gortat should be starting and getting 30 + minutes per game...

Well, at the same time the argument could be made that Gortat just got traded here and is still getting to know the team and system.
Like previously mentioned, I think the sample size is too small to try point out statistically who is better.

I still don't understand why anyone wants to trade either Lopez or Gortat. For the past decade all I have heard from Suns fans is whining that we are too small and a center away from contending, now that we have 2 serviceable centers, we want to trade one to fill another hole?
I just don't get it, we are continually filling a hole by making another hole ad naseum.

I can tell whose better just by watching them play up until this point. Gortat is just alot more comfortable out there. He's just plain better. Interesting article though.

I happen to think Lopez is becoming much more consistent offensively. Nuff of the hate on the guy... for less than 3 mil he is worth his salt.
You guys are whining for whining sakes.
Every team needs a couple of big guys. Of course they need at least one who is pretty good. Lopez has his ups and downs, but get him in the right situation, he can be productive. At the very least, you can see some improvement. If it doesnt continue, he wont be worth anything to anyone else. I think that is why he continues to get minutes... FEED THE BIGBIRD

GorSTAT does need to get better with his hands, though. That much was evident in the CLE game. He dropped or muffed 4-5 passes from Nash that put him right at the basket.
Lopez needs to do something. Anything. I like the hook-shot he's developed, it can improve, but I don't know why more big men don't use this all the time... that and he needs to punch a ref in the face for his next stupid foul. Sure, they'll suspend him for 20 games, but I wouldn't want to be the first ref to blow a whistle the next time....
Lopez is at 5.2 fouls per 36
Gortat is at 3.4 fouls per 36
That comes from positioning and defensive know-how, something Robin can hopefully learn from The Cracken in practice.
