How ironic is this....we get the PERFECT center for our team and Amare is gone, plus Nash is 37 yrs old and this center is 26?
We have to do something; I don't want to waste Gortat's prime years. Gortat's offense is highly depended on Nash...sooooooo we need to keep Nash for a few more years or get a PG like him; and that guy lives in GS......

Do what exactly? This team is on a roll now. Have you been watching Steve Nash? I wont be surprised if this guy ploays until he is 45. he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down;if anything, he's still getting better.

Gortat is nothing like Shaqtus except for the rebounding.
Gortat = Tyson Chandler.
Athletic 7ish footers who rebound and play good inside D, while being capable finishers in transition and off the PnR offensively. They're both best off offensively playing next to a true playmaking PG, and preferably also next to a PF who is an offensive threat.

Gortat is more mobile, energetic and athletic than most of the centers in the league. Add that to his basketball awareness and you have a pretty good center. Im impressed on how he plays and defends the pick and roll. Offensively, he knows where to position himself and to create proper spacing for the shooters and nash to operate. At the defensive end, he makes use of his quick feet and delays the PG with his trapping. So far, he's the second best center, behind varejao, that I've seen when it comes to pick and roll defense.

His PnR defense is really good!
This may be a little OT, but I also noticed that Channing Frye's PnR defense has improved... but Frye's rotation over to Gortat's guy after Gortat steps up for the PnR help is outstanding. Those 2 work together very well on defensive rotations.
On the flip side, I specifically watched for Warrick in those same situations. wow. I don't get how you can play in the NBA as a full time job and still have no clue what to do. He is absolutely terrible. (which everyone already knows... just restating the fact.)

Option 1: Deep bench for Warrick! Go small and play Childress instead; Dudley/Childress at the 4.
Option 2: Only play Warrick in a 2-3 zone. It worked at Syracuse.

Gortat isn't much better then Tyson Chandler at all. Chandler's a guy who once had a 22/22 game, and just last week had a 21/15 game despite playing next to the relentless ballhog that is Dirk Nowitzki, as opposed to Frye.
They're both athletic bigs who have the same strengths and limitations.
Very good rebounding, good post defense, high level of activity and hustle, and the ability to switch out onto smaller and quicker players, which is particularly usefull when defending the PnR since it leaves the defending guard with the option of going under the screen.
On offense their main strengths are their activty level off the ball setting screens and the pick n roll, which make em particularly usefull when paired up with a gifted playmaker who excels at running the PnR (Nash for Gortat, CP3 and Kidd for Chandler). They can also finish in transition thanks to their mobility (which make em better suited for uptempo ball) and knock down open jumpers, but neither will ever be an ISO option, neither from the lowpost or highpost due to their lack of offensive post game and handles.
Gortat's a nice player, I'm very happy we got him and he's a major reason the Orlando trade was a great move, but if ya think that he's "much better then Chandler", ur either :
1) Getting way ahead of yourself
2) Underrating Chandler
3) Ur basketball analysis abilities suck
or 4) Combination of the above
Actually now looking your previous posts, it might be option 4 "combination", but option 3 is def involved in there

Are you kidding me? Chandler is good, I never said he wasnt, but Gortat IS a better player in my opinion. The reason Tyson is able to score on that team has a lot to do with "ball hog" Dirk. To question my analysis of players when you dont understand how much Chandlers success is a product of Dirk being out there is outrageous. Im gonna go ahead and put you in the 4 catagory now. Seems like you think you got the NBA all figured out, but your opinion is just that.

Foot... mouth - take it out.
Chandler's best offensive season was in 2007-2008 on the Hornets when he averaged 2 more points per game and double the amount of assists he's currently averaging. Dirk was nowhere near to be seen that year, except when David West was slapping him in the face.
It has nothing to with Dirk, and everything to with CP3/Kidd.

Nothing to do with Dirk...riight, save it dude. Hes a PF who can take his man outside the 3 pt line leaving 1 on 1 situations for Chandler quite often, making it very hard to double team him. Obviously CP3 and Kidd have a lot to do with it as well as they are 2 of best PGs of the game. So you can put the foot right back in your mouth now. If it makes you feel any better, I sure wouldnt mind having both Chandler and Gortat. But Gortat gets the edge from me.
