Article: How high is Gortat's ceiling?

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Thu Feb 3, 2011 10:49 pm

Haven't checked if this has been posted anywhere else so my apologies in advance if it has:

http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2011/ ... is-ceiling

The thing that jumps out at me is how skewed his big games have been against inferior competition. It's GREAT that he's risen to the occasion but calling a guy who got killed by Elton Brand and had very pedestrian games against the Nets, Nuggets and Trail Blazers a future All-Star because he's had six fantastic games is...premature.

Much more before that in the article, I'd recommend you read it.

Personally, I'm he'll be near the top 10 centers in the league, maybe just outside it. He'll get more consistent and probably start getting near 10 rpg. Points will very. If he keeps getting spoon-fed I'm thinking 15-17ppg. If not so much probably 12ppg. I'm thinking Chris Kaman level of production, might make an ASG but not a perennial allstar, above average and pretty consistent with a few brilliant games.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

the games vs the thunder would be a good barometer. I dont care much about his ceiling! I just want some consistent games from him. I think the opposing team will plan to defend him better and we shall see how he reacts to it. I think him and dudley are at the same level.

I hope his ceilings are at least 7 feet tall, otherwise he's gonna have a really sore neck...

I'm pretty sure Gortat is bumping his head on his ceiling right now...Nash has him playing about as well as he is capable of playing.

Gortat's ceiling > Lopez's ceiling

That's all that matters

+1

Other than developing a semi-reliable midrange jumper, I don't think Gortat will get much better. That's not a bad thing cause he's already good at the things we need from him: Defense & Rebounding.

I beg to differ, Sir. In fact, I think he would reach a whole new level if he developed some 1-on-1 game. I know he's 27 already but he's very raw in that department, so the initial progress could be quite quick.

Even if he is a above average center that's good enough for me. It's hard enough just finding average centers in the league.

I think its silly to even write about Gortat's ceiling at this point. A bit premature...

Dears - You need to consider one thing - he started playing basketball in 2002.. so I think he really did tremendous progress and if stay at the level he's currently it will be a huge achievement

Yep. Before, he was a soccer goalkeeper.

I'm very intersted in tonight matchup Gortat-Ibaka. If Marcin will be soft, and will make predictable lay ups, after the picks, then he can get a block from Ibaka the shotblockea. He need to dunk or do some pump fakes.

He will be an all star next year. I don't see 10 centers in the NBA doing what he's doing right now. Even against average centers because their aren't many good centers in the league. What centers does he have to go against in the west that are all stars.

Yao- made of glass
Kaman- unpredictable
Bynum- always hurt
Chandler- average offensive player at best
Oden- look at Bynum
