Team Rep (and other roles)

Post#1 » by impulsenine » Thu Feb 10, 2011 6:53 am

This wiretap contains this quote:
James Jones is Miami's player rep, but LeBron said he's willing to speak up if he has to.

First: Hey, James Jones!
Second: "Player rep"? Who's ours? I'd never heard of this role. I know there are team captains, but that's clearly not the same as this position - unless James Jones has many orders of magnitude more locker room cred than I thought!

What other roles do they have? Team gladhander? The official rookie tormentor?

derek fisher isn't the team captain of the Lakers, but he's the LEAGUE REP for the players union. This refers to the players union. Not certain what the job entails, but it's things that huge stars generally don't concern themselves with. Player reps are almost always role players who have a lot of respect (the heat don't have many... this proves that). When CBA talks begin, player reps take a pretty big role, but like any union, are largely unheard if their opinions aren't shared with the rest of the union. They also try to avoid big stars in these types of things because they worry it gives the refs a certain opinion of them one way or the other, which Stern hates. The more involvement in the league, the more the refs are affected, etc...

Our team rep? No idea. But I'd venture a guess and say it's Hill.

I'm pretty sure Jared Dudley is ours. I believe "Player rep" just means that Jared Dudley attends the Players Associations meetings and things of that nature.

EDIT: Here you go...

Dudley is the Suns’ rep for the NBA Players Association and he recently met with NBPA Executive Director Billy Hunter, who is meeting with every team to inform them of the status of the collective bargaining agreement.
“The message was, ‘It’s serious,’” Dudley said of what Hunter relayed to him. “I think both sides are trying to work toward an agreement. I don’t think any progress has been made, Billy said, but just to reiterate to players save even more than you have been.”

Double Edit: Josh Childress is the Suns replacement team rep. This site provides the team reps and backup reps for each NBA team:

Triple Edit: Cleveland Cavaliers----------To be elected  This season these guys always stick out somehow...

Josh Childress? So instead of being at practise and playing in games, does he spendsall his time in a suit and in front of his computer preparing for meetings? Sounds like a businessman than a basketball player
