OT: Earl Clark

Post#1 » by SideSwipe » Sun Feb 13, 2011 9:12 pm

Just had a monster fast break dunk against LA. He looks agressive, confident and playing great defense. His recent play is the hidden gem for ORL. Anyway, I just wanted to pass it on.

Considering we did not pick up his $1.8 mil option, he will very likely more than double that amount next year. I could easily see him pulling in $4-$5 mil per year on a 3 year deal, based on the progress I see today. Now if he regresses, I could see that going down, but his play today was nothing short of special. Great D, shooting touch, huge dunk, big block and a great assist in 8 minutes. Very efficient. he wil need to prove he can be more consistent, but in a world where Frye gets the MLE, Clark could easily qualify for 80% of that.

I see a 10/3 type deal with a PO in the last year.

He was never going to get playing time until Grant Hill retired, but since the off-season acquisition of Josh Childress and Hedo Turkoglu, it didn't seem very likely that he would get any playing time in even after Grant Hill retired. I'm glad to see he is getting playing time, I hope he continues to play well.

Dudley was buried on the bench while Porter was in charge. Gentry got him in the rotation and look at him now.
Dragic was lacking confidence and being Tragic. Gentry started giving him consistent minutes and look at him now.

Earl Clark, when he played, often looked lost. When that happens and you have Childress, Dudley, J-Rich, Warrick, Frye, Hill all about to play the positions Clark play, there's really no point in playing Clark.

Earl Clark never played. He played over 20 minutes just 3 times, and never more than 21. He played more than 10 minutes just 10 times or so and all just barely.

He never got a chance here that is fact and it is plain stupid to never give your lottery pick a chance and then go on to sign even more players for the position.

Just an example of (Please Use More Appropriate Word) Suns management.

Funny how we are so patient and give Ro-Lo all these chances but we never once gave Clark a fair shot. Clark could be a solid player given the playing time. He's fast on his feet for his size, decent jumper and good defense. Good to see him do well today.

Why would we play Earl Clark when we have Grant Hill? Grant is going to lead us to the Finals this year, who cares if he is 38 and Clark is 23.....uh wait.....I do. Oh well, I am desensitized to our FO lack of Player Developement acumen.

Maybe if we all keep whining about him he'll come back. :)

Don't know why people keep harping on Grant Hill when mentioning Clark. Clark played PF for the Suns(as he does for the Magic) something Hill rarely does. The fact that Clark couldn't beat out anyone at by far the weakest position on the team is pretty telling, or the fact that he was the 4th best player on the SL roster.

Clark just turned 23, give him a break. This especially goes for all the Lopez fan club members. Clark has way more upside than the flat footed idiot that is our starting center.
