Nene/J.R./Martin - to Suns?

Post#1 » by NiGhtWiSh » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:36 am

There are high rumours that Nuggs are trading Nene/J.R. Smith/Martin ASAP. Do you think Suns are in the game for this guys??

I like the idea of J.R. in Suns uni, but i know that a part of you hates him... i know, body paintings, etc. But he is a monster at 2nd spot.

Nene or Martin - one of them can stay in PHX, i think Martin is not so lazy, so i'd rather take him.

What do you think, guys?
Offense wins games, Defense wins championships...

But an unnecessary and expensive luxury imo.

dont need any of these. of the three we would use martin the most, no question. phoenix FO LOVES soft big men, and our staff could probably keep him healthy.

Nene could easily be 25 ppg scorer given playing time and touches (he averages 15 points taking only 9 shots per game) but through the years guys like Carmelo, Iverson, JR Smith or even Al Haarrington have been eating all the shots and George Karl is too dumb to do anything about it. Nene''s an All-NBA material.

Nuggets want to extend him though.

Absolutely.

Gortat + Nene front court is tempting though.

You really think Nene could've been an elite scorer this whole time and the only reason he was not utilized more (despite his apparent elite scoring skills) was because Melo, AI, JR Smith and All Harrington took all the shots?

25ppg is ridiculous. The only big men to have put up 25ppg in recent history has been Amare Stoudemire, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal and Yao Ming.

Not enough range imo. Nene with Frye would be nice though.

They're all awful. Nene has a massive attitude, JR Smith is easily the least intelligent player in basketball today, and Kenyon Martin is a thug.

How about trading for Danilo Gallinari heard the Nuggets are making him available. Suns could use him as a SF or PF and I love his game

Title of this thread should be renamed to 'Should the Suns make a run at Nene/J.R./Martin?'

I thought there was an indication we were interested.

No it's one of the reasons. Other are:
- Torn ACL
- getting back from torn ACL
- cancer
- getting back from cancer
- George Karl being the coach (one of the more important reasons probably)

25ppg is ridiculous. The only big men to have put up 25ppg in recent history has been Amare Stoudemire, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal and Yao Ming.

Well, now he scores 18ppg on 10 attempted shots per 36 minutes being the 2nd most efficient player in the league with 68,5% TS (Tyson Chandler is no 1, but all he does offensively is finishing wide open dunks). Amare averages 8 more points on 9 more shots per 36 minutes, and it's pretty safe bet that given full starter minutes and about 15-16 shots Nene would've get 25 points. Or 26 or 24 or 23- it's not the point, the point is Nene being elite offensive force down low, able to score on his own and command double teams which is exactly what he's doing in Denver, only in limited time (28-30 minutes) and with limited touches. The kind of player we happen to badly need.

I can see some hostility towards him on this board and i think it's from that incident he had with Lou last season.

I've seen Nene play, and he's not an elite offensive force down low. He's efficient with the few touches he gets and he gets a lot of wide open dunks but he's far from any sort of elite offensive force like Duncan, Shaq or Yao was. As good as Tim Duncan was down low, he's only scored more than 23ppg 3 times in his career. I really can't see how Nene could "easily" do something Tim Duncan has ever done 3 times in his career.

I don't hate Nene and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Suns uniform. But I find the claim that he'd easily be a 23-26ppg scorer quite far-fetched. I'd even consider him being an "elite" offensive force down low, to be a stretch as well.

No interest in any of them for me. I'd rather Gortat/Lopez than throw Nene and/or Martin in, and JR with his inconsistency and attitude. Just wouldn't be players that would help our build going forward.

I wouldn't want JR Smith on this team even if he was paying Sarver cash money to be in the rotation.

Once again, totally agree

Nene does fit in terms of skills - hell they ALL fit - but they're all idiots with attitudes

Suns brass would never bring in either of Smith/Kmart because of their thug antics
