Phoenix is the 3rd most miserable sports city in the United States, Atlanta was #2 and Seattle is at #1. Here is the article if you're interested. I think it's funny how our picture has Marbury in it.

Cleveland is for sure number 1. Phoenix should be up there in the top 3 with atlanta as well. San Diego is pretty bad too

Cleveland, Buffalo, and Seattle....and it's not really close.

EDIT: Though it is a bit disconcerting that three of the four teams I root for are from cities that are viable choices for this list. Suns, Sabres, Braves.

Did you follow the link? Their method was a lot more interesting than I thought. They emphasized near-misses, the gap between # of championships vs how many times teams got close. I guess they decided it's more miserable to have your heart repeatedly torn out in the playoffs than to know you're lottery-bound preseason.

Talk about a sense of entitlement: Cleveland fans feel snubbed every year at not being at the top of this list, as if they own a monopoly on sports misery. Well, those Bob Feller and Jim Brown titles back in the day are part of the city's sports history--they count. Have patience, though. At the rate you're going, you'll get there. But no misery bonus points for each title LeBron wins in Miami.

Cleveland has quite a few championships, actually, while Phoenix [cough] doesn't. And thanks to the almost-good-enough Suns, we have an abundant supply of near-misses and woulda-coulda-shouldas.

But I'd prefer to be a Suns fan any day, even if they keep doing this to me for life.

Fact is, the Suns have been in the playoffs all but 3 seasons since 1988, the Diamondbacks won a World
Series ten years ago, and the Cardinals were in the Super Bowl two years ago.

Pretty dumb article, there are plenty of worse off sports cities than us by far. Funny to see how low people think of our teams though. Not to mention last year making it to the WCF and if it wasnt for Artest, had a very good shot at going to the championship. Plus nice weather here, centrally located in one of the most desireable areas of the US. I just dont understand the logic.

Not to mention ASU baseballs success year after year, and the Phoenix Mecurys 2 championships.

And I dont think that is Marbury, skin is too dark to be Marbury, head is too skinny to be Marbury. Bo Outlaw possibly?

I'm just saying: it's worth looking at the actual article. When I first looked at this thread, I thought it was ridiculous too, but I see what they're saying. But obviously you can spin the whole thing other ways...emphasize other things.

I think the article is valid but the word miserable was a poor choice. True misery does not come from near misses, rather from years of being a perennial bottom dweller and knowing you don't have a shot in h3ll of having a successful season... (or just have your team ripped from your city all together.)

In close to 20 years of being a suns fan I have had my heart ripped out on many occasions but only on 1 occasion can I recall feeling really miserable about my team.. no, it wasn't the 0-13 start after the barkley trade, it was marburys last year here.. and even then we knew the kind of talent we had in marion stat and JJ..

In fact, despite our lack of rings I consider us among the most fortunate fans in sports to be able to remain competitive year after year and to be blessed to watch the most entertaining team in basketball over the last 7 season.

The cardinals on the other hand made me miserable for many years, but you cant knock 4 playoff wins in the last 3 seasons... 4 more than New England I might add.
