OT: Rubbish "Music" These Days

Post#1 » by DRK » Sat Mar 5, 2011 1:55 pm

Excuse the rant, but I've totally had enough of this crap. I spent the whole night tonight listening to old music on youtube, and it made me sad. REAL Music itself, is dead. Gone. Forgotten

Everytime I turn on the radio I hear rubbish. Ke$ha, Pink, Jason Derulo, Lil Wayne, all that **** rubbish. It's not even music. Its just autotuned voices to an electronic soundtrack. None of the new "musicians" these days have any talent. Pour a bottle of acid down any ****'s throat and anyone sound like Lil wayne.

What happened to the good ol days. Even the late 90's to early 2000's? Red Hot Chilli Peppers were on the radio, and they had TALENT. Their guitarist were sensational. I miss the old RnB, R Kelly, Ashanti, Usher; all those people. But now, Usher has gone "mainstream" and released new garbage like "Dj Got Us fallin' In Love Again." Pathetic Usher. Pathetic. Shame on you.

Now to the main point, the rap. What passes for rap nowadays? Hell, even Justin Beiber is trying to rap. That is just disgraceful, and an embarrassment. That is totally disrespectful to REAL raoppers such as Tupac, Biggie, Busta Rhymes, and the BTnH.

Now total classics like "Juicy" by Biggie and "Hit Em Up" by Tupac are never been played on the radio nowadays because clueless teens only like Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy.

if there's one thing that's been lost coming into this 21st century, its real, good quality music. Bring that back. Please. If I have to listen to another cake faced bitch ask me "Oh Na Na,What's My Name, ," I think I be the next person to knock her out. (Just (half) joking)

Sorry for the rant. I really had to get this off my chest. haha

Absolutely agree. I listen to rock 95% of the time and I'm probably not as big a rap fan as a lot of other posters here, but I can respect rap. Not most of the crap on the airwaves nowadays though.

It's really hard to understand how society falls so in love with people like Ke$ha and Lil' Wayne. I just don't get it at all. They have absolutely no talent. I saw a video on youtube where Wayne was put on the spot during a radio interview to freestyle and he couldn't come up with anything. Ke$ha is even harder to understand. Practically all of her music is auto-tuned into the ground and she looks like a girl that'd be digging through a trash can in an alley somewhere. Where's the appeal? Yet so many people fall for it.

I'm glad I read this post. Since you mentioned BTnH, I'm totally gonna go listen to "Crossroads" now. That song was awesome back in the day. I know the mainstream bashers probably trashed it for being overplayed but I loved that song when I was younger. I remember watching the music video for it all the time. You know, back when music videos were shown on TV at times where everyone wasn't sleeping.

Even post-hardcore is way over-saturated these days. I'm really, really not a fan of Craig Owens. I think that he's extremely overrated as a vocalist. And... Their band is just doing what EVERY other post-hardcore band has already done. Not bashing on the genre because that's what I listen to most of the time. Check out Amia Venera Landscape. That's some quality post-hardcore.

The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth
Scale the Summit - The Collective
Between the Buried and Me - Colors/The Great Misdirect

Not saying that the above artists are the most talented in the world but they've all got a unique sound and are pushing the borders of their respective genres. Listed are my favorite album(s) from each artist.

Funny thing about them, when I first heard "A Favor House Atlantic", I absolutely hated it. One of the worst songs I had ever heard. What the heck was this guy doing? He sounded horrible!

But then they came out with some other singles and I started to go "Okay, these guys are pretty talented". Heard "Welcome Home" and fell in love. Over time, I even started to like "A Favor House Atlantic". Now Coheed is one of my favorite bands.

I definitely agree with you. I had a buddy recommend the song to me and I had to turn it off halfway though because I couldn't handle the Claudio's high-pitched vocals. It definitely took some time to get used to. I still skip over 'A Favor House Atlantic' on occasion but overall that's one of my favorite albums of all time. I really fell in love with the whole story/concept of the band. Good stuff! And... Funny that we both agree that it was kind of an acquired taste!

Well you either love or hate Craig Owens. I happen to love him... his range is amazing to me. But you're entitled to your opinion. I just checked out Amia Venera Landscape and I like them. Good find.

I also recommend everyone check out Jonny Craig (yes, he is a complete waste of life in real life, but his music is amazing) - very soulful. Here he is live - check it out. (and yes the mullet is in jest)

Mainstream musics whole purpose is to have a catchy beat and lyrics that get stuck in your head, most of it turns out to be mindless garbage. There is still some real artists out there, try B.o.B, i like his album, but his mixtapes are really good too, Lupe Fiasco and Chamillionaire have some good stuff too

haha Sully... sombody just sent me that mullet Craig video.... never heard of him ... till now. There is so much music out there. No point to even be in the 'mainstream'. Welcome to the wonderful world of generation gaps DRK.... you'll gain more stories that begin with 'Back then...'

Here's one of my old favorites who is still relevant, and true to his purpose, yet largely unknown except for some recent sampling.

Youtube is a great source of music discovery.

I totally agree with you, but...

There is tons of great music out there being released everyday, you just need to look for it.

I can't remember the last time I listened to radio music, do yourself a favor and get an Ipod and a device to play it in the car, trust me it's worth it.

There are soooo many great artists out there who deserve radio time but don't get it, you just need to find them.

Here's a dope site I use to find new music also, you type in the name of a band or musician you already like and it will give you suggestions. Hopefully it helps some of you too.

Welcome to growing up,

Seriously though, I grew up listening to 80s music and I thought everything in the 90s was pure hot garbage.

I'm sure people who grew up listening to the hits in the 70s thought the 80s were garbage as well and so on and so forth. Music is constantly evolving, right now we are in the autotune / techno era, the music this young generation embraces. I'm sure in the next decade we'll have even stranger music.

I will say this though, I'm kind of torn on this new generation of rap music. In a way, I dislike it because of its over-sexualization, I mean, its not even subtle anymore. However, I do like it in a sense because it seems to be moving away from the "thug and violence" culture and more towards "enjoying life and having fun". Maybe its just my perspective since I never liked 90s music, :dontknow:

There is far more great music being made right now than a person can listen to.

Absolutely none of it is on the radio.

The only reason I know who Kesha is is because I have a younger cousin on my Facebook friends.

I'm seriously considering removing her.

Im going to see Coheed in a few weeks play the entire Second State Turbine Blade album :) One of the most impressive bands of all time.

Craig Owens is fun live, I'll give you that much. Chiodos put out a TON of energy on stage. Whats your take on D.R.U.G.S. and the new Chiodos frontman? Anthony Green of Saosin/Circa Survive is where I go if I need that kind of a voice. Another similar vocalist is Tillian Pearson formerly of Tides of Man.

I'm glad that you pointed out Jonny Craig. He's a complete douche and it's really hard to root for the guy but his voice is amazing. Whenever people try to argue with me that no one in the genre has a quality voice Jonny is the one I turn to.

Sorry if the format is completely off on this. I'm fairly new here and still haven't figured out all of the little tricks...

Jealous... I live in Utah but am going to be doing a sales thing in Dallas this summer. I'll still be in Utah when they're in Texas but I'll be leaving Utah before they play here. So... For the second summer in a row, I'll be forced to miss Coheed. Live it up, man!

Good music... Great music is still out there, just not on the radio. Ignore most mainstream stuff, because they don't necessarily pertain to other generations too well.

I have beef with a lot of modern music but not all of it(for example what is the problem with PINK?). I also don't understand the appeal of underground music. If your production quality sounds like it was recorded by a bunch of teens playing in a garage the music does not qualify as good music.

I agree that Wayne, Beaver, Pink, Ke$ha all suck, but everyone is more interested in the money > making music that they like. Some of these guys are very capable of making exceptional music/rap (Eminem) yet they choose to go mainstream to attract a variety of the population rather than just one part.
