Hill Hopes To Re-Sign With Suns

Once the Suns' playoff hopes ostensibly were crushed with home losses to New Orleans and Dallas, Suns co-captains Steve Nash and Grant Hill began talking about the Suns' future.
A future with Nash, while always subject to trade, is tied to the final year of his contract. But with Hill, his look ahead was an acknowledgement that he wants to re-sign with the Suns for a third contract in Phoenix this summer.
"It'd be nice to come back and prove that we can be better than we were this season," Hill said Tuesday. "Let's just hope and pray we have a season first and foremost and then we'll see what happens. Hopefully, it works out and we can improve and get better."
When the Suns missed the playoffs two seasons ago, Hill re-signed for a two-year deal talking about unfinished business. He had seven interested teams and narrowed his choices to Phoenix, Boston and New York but did not enjoy the drawn-out process.
"I'm too old for all that," said Hill, 38. "Depending on what happens, for all free agents, if there's a work stoppage and if we miss some of the season, there will be a mad dash or scramble to get everyone signed. You have a new labor agreement that you have to understand and interpret. I anticipate it being a lot different than it was two years ago. Let's say the lockout hypothetically ends in November. Going off what happened 12 years ago (for the 1999 lockout), we're starting a week later. There will be a lot going on. It will be kind of a frenzy."
Hill will turn 39 next season and has expressed an interest in playing at age 40, especially after looking like one of the NBA's top defenders this season as the Suns stopper on opposing team's star point guards, wings and even power forwards. He has done that while averaging 13 points per game, the seventh NBA player to do that at his age.
Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver has expressed a desire for Hill to finish his career with Phoenix.
"Hopefully, we can move forward, improve and get into the postseason next year," Hill said. "It kind of motivates you a little bit.
"I still feel like I can play. I like the guys on the team. We'll see what happens."

If he wants to re-sign then that means Nash will be here next season. Good news so far.

I think he'll have to accept a bench role or reduced minutes regardless. We got Dudley, MP and JChill behind him, all who can contribute.

Move him to Orlando and develop your younger talent
Everything I've seen and read indicates Grant really likes it over there, but I think he should give a championship one more go. If not for the Celtics acquiring Jeff Green, he would have fit perfectly there. But I also think he would be fantastic for Orlando (with Nash of course).

I'm totally cool with this, although I'd like it more if he would accept a bench role (if we had someone worth starting over him). It's true that he's very winded by the end of the game. Dude can still ball, just not for many minutes.

Love to have him back but I really want to start Chilly at the SF, even though it buggers the 4-out thing. I swear his shot is uglier than Trix's

Grant Hill can play for my team as long as he wants...I just wish it wasn't at the expense of Jared Dudley.

Not enough players like Hill in the league. All these young guys who want instant success and aren't prepared to work hard for it could learn a lot from Hill.
For all the great things he does on the court, I would even want him back purely to provide leadership and guidance in the locker room.

Grant Hill is going batsh** crazy with his twitter right now, retweeting everything he can. Maybe this interview with Hill shouldn't be taken too seriously since he seems to be slipping into "crazy old man" mode.

I like Hill but if we're rebuilding in a youth movement, it doesn't make sense for him to come back

We dont have the tools to rebuild with a youth movement... we have one draft pick and a bit of money for a FA.
BTW.... we are pretty young if you overlook the two old guys. I'll give them each one more yr with these 'kids'.

And you guys act like Dudley and Childress learning from Grant is a bad thing. Or at least you never mention it as a plus.
I understand the whole "We need to develop our young guys" thing. But I honestly think that is accomplished more in the locker room and on the practice court than in an actual game. And I can't think of a player I would rather have imbue that education than #33.
Couldn't care less about Pietrus, btw. Not that I don't like him, just don't think he's a part of our future. Hill + Dudley starting with Childress getting the balance of the minutes makes sense, right?
I don't understand the gut reaction of "Oh noez! Hill want's to play for a crappy team for no moniez! I hope he comes of the bench!" attitude.
Tired in the 4th? Okay, but as far as I can tell, he's the only guy who consistantly steps up. He's 38 fricken years old and guards Kobe for every minute he's on the court. Pretty much shuts him down in the 2nd, until the refs call 2 BS calls on him in the span of 15 seconds. Only way they can get him off of Bryant's ass. Incredible.
Oh, and as of next year (assuming we resign Brooks), he'll be the 10th highest paid player on our roster. WTF are we bitching about?

People are bitching because people have to bitch about everything. To complain about ANYTHING regarding Hill is absurd. The guy makes like 2 million dollars a year, is happy to be here, WANTS to REMAIN here, has rebounded his career as much as possible after like 6 years of hell. ANYTHING we get from him is playing with house money.
Dudley will get enough time, don't you worry none.

Grant is cheap, is our best defender, and wants to be here. No need to do a "youth movement" just for the sake of it.
I think people are expecting a quick rebuild and contending within the next year or two, however, I think we are in for a slow rebuild once Hill / Nash decide to retire.

As much as I love Hill to retire with us.
I don't want another Earl Clark situation where we stash our young players behind the old guys and don't play them.
We also need to play Childress as much as we can if we rebuild because that is the only way to raise his value again.
