If lottery luck is on our side...

So, assuming we don't make the playoffs and we are somewhere around 12 or 13th, we have a few percentage chance of getting a top 3 pick. If we do luck out (and given the Suns history of luck... I would put it lower than the mathematical chances would say (lol)) - is there anyone in the 1-3 slot that you think would just be amazing on our team?
Derrick Williams is the consensus #1. But he's a small forward. A position we don't really need.
Irving is a true PG... a good pick I would think. But he would be the eventual replacement for Nash - so not an immediate help.
Vesely and Kantor are PF's, which we do need. But they are both international players. If history tells us anything, it's that international players taken this high more often than not do not shake out.
Burks is a SG. Def not a position of need.
Perry Jones is the wildcard here in my opinion. He can play PF.. but isn't your prototypical PF either.
So with all of that said. If we won the lottery - who would you take? Would you trade it? You see anyone being worth a top 3 pick that could make a difference on this team? If so who and why?

Personally, I would be interested to see what Perry Jones could do with a few years of Nash... but does he warrant a top 3 pick?? He has Amare-like raw talent. He'd def need to get the "Mark West" treatment as well. Would he be ok with that?

irving and trade nash. im not nesassarily a trade nash supporter but we cant pass up on this talent imo, and with nash we can maybs get a young pf and a pick.
although, 1)irving might stay for his sophomore season
2) i think we need to find a young pf/c, who can play off the bench because frye (is very valuable) and plays well with gortat.

Irving won't even be the best PG of this class I believe. And a PG out of Duke is definately a red flag to me.
I like both Brandon Knight and Kemba Walker better.
How is SG not a position of need for the Suns? We don't even have a true shooting guard at all on the roster except Carter maybe Pietrus.
Kanter can play both center or power forward think Al Horford or Demarcus Cousins.
PS: We need anything. We have no young player for the future at all.
If for some reason we landed a top 3 pick you take Derrick Williams if you can and don't look back. Insert him in the starting lineup at SF right away.
I love Perry Jones but the market sets the value, it looks like Jones will be drafted aroun 7-12 so I would consider trading back for Jones or better yet trade up for Jones.

Derrick Williams wouldn't be able to play PF in the NBA? I don't know too much about college basketball so I haven't watched him much.
If he can't play PF, then I'd try to trade the top 3 pick. We can get a bonafide star for that pick.
Meh, who are we kidding? No chance we get a top pick. Not with our luck.

Hmmm...
10) .011 +.013 + .016 = 4,0%
11) .008 +.009 + .012 = 2,9%
12) .007 +.008 + .010 = 2,5%
13) .006 +.007 + .009 = 2,2%
14) .005 +.006 + .007 = 1,8%
I think that possibility that Suns will be "endangered" by top 3 pick

is so marginal, that we can skip it.

Sully, what is the Mark West treatment?

Back when we drafted Amare it was well publicized he may have personal problems. The Suns assigned Mark West to him to take Amare under his wing and make sure he didn't get in trouble. One of the smartest moves the Suns ever made.

Sounds like West really did a good job. I don't remember Amare ever getting into any off court problems. Maybe early in his Suns career, but never later. Amare's mom on the other hand......

Take BPA, then keep or trade for assets.
Williams would be so nasty here.

can we merge this with the draft thread? second what is all this guys obsession with Perry Jones? baylor was a good team last season and this season they didnt even make any kind of impact even with him on the floor. Most scouts thinks he is a high bust and high reward player. if there is a EC2.0 this guy is it. At least EC showed something in college. BTW the reason he went to baylor was cause they give handouts over there.

If there's no-one who really stands out for us, draft for another team high in the lotto and take their pick plus sweetner - but really, we're not going to have to worry overmuch about that

We should trade Robin Lopez and 2 free tacos from Jack in the Box for the very last pick in the draft, then draft whoever that may be.

What would be wrong playing him at SF if he can't defend at the 4? I seriously compare him to S. Abdur-Rahim, but a bit more physical

I say we take Williams if we get top 3. I think he could fit well next to Gortat. He can hit the three like Frye, albeit probably less consistent, but he can take people off the dribble and play in the post too. He also knows how to pass out of a double team to find an open man. I really think he's going to play the 4, with some small forward skills. Even if he turns out to be 6'8", I think he bodies up well against bigger players, even though he is an average defender.

If we get top 3, run out and buy a boatload of lottery tickets, too ......

If we won the lottery Sarver would definitely just use it to buy more tickets

But if we got a player, BPA for sure, as far as I'm concerned we don't have a cornerstone going forward so we build around who we can get.

After workouts and measurements Perry Jones' value will be top 5. If we had the 3rd pick my top 3 would be Irving, Williams and Jones in no order. They're all about even.

I like Derrick Williams.
If he's defending 4s, then that is ok. We are the Suns, guys. Post defense has never been an issue for our FO

Ha. Luck and our Suns. Don't go together at all.
Start preparing for players in that 12-14 range where we'll most likely be. Only way to move up is a trade with a team that thinks this draft is weak.
