Should the Suns make a serious run at CP3? Looking forward

Everyone knows that Chris Paul is going to be a mjor free agent in 2012. If the Suns pursue and get him the rebuilding process will be shorter than we all think. If the Suns are able to get some dead weight off thier roster like Warrik (carter is already gone) and Peaches (love his hustle but terrible shot selection-Suns wont resign him after next year) we may have a nice team in 3 years. This is just a what if thread so tell me what you think. The Suns signed Nash and it turned everything around no reason why CP couldnt have a similar effect.

Here are my 2 cents.

PG: Keep grooming Brooks he would be a great backup. Let him start next year if the Suns ship Nash out over the summer or before the deadline. Even if the Suns keep Nash to keep butts in seats as some expect Sarver to do try to give him more burn and give Steve some nights off to mystery ailments. I don't think anyone would question that Nash is probably a great teacher.

Paul/Brooks would be a dynamite combo imo. Keep Dowdell as a low cost insurance policy-hes not spectacular but hes good insurance if an injury comes up and I think his play has earned it.

SG: Carter will be gone this year and Peaches after next. Without postulating tons of trades which could get out of hand lets just say the Suns start Duds. Dudley isnt an allstar and will never be, but he is a smart solid player on both sides of the ball not to mention his locker room presence. Every team needs a Dudley imo he's your perrenial glue guy..he just does whats needed, fits in alnd has a great personality. He also has a VERY good contract.

Dudley/JChill - possibly supplimented by draft or free ageny.

SF: Here's where it gets cloudy. If Grant stays we have a solid starter lockdown defender with a reliable midrange J. But nobody can play forever so this will be a big question mark moving forward. Jchill can be a decent backup here as well and his contract will be hard to unload so I see him being here awhile. I think the Suns should maybe try to draft here and hopefully get lucky-god knows after drafting EC and Lopez we could use a little good fortune. I think the league puts more weight on Big men and PG's so the chance of getting a diamond in the rough is better with a swingman.

Hill/Jchill/?

PF: I think we can do well enough for now with Frye playing the stretch 4 and with his contract he isnt going anywhere. I think the Suns need to so whatever they can to move Warrk he just seems to lack intensity sometimes and doesnt play D or rebound well. Moving him wont be easy but then again I never thought anyone would take on Hedo either. Id rather sign a FA, draft or even try out Lawal assuming hes shown some improvement in the D league.

Frye/FA

C: Finally the silver lining to this years season. Not only do i think Gortat is going to be a great Center for us for years to come, like Dudley he seems to be a good guy and hard worker. I can't say enough about how much I love this guy. On the flipside of that coin I believe the Suns are ready to ship out Lopez and rightfully so. Don't get me started on Lopez. I would rather give his minutes next year to Siler after getting him to do P90X over the summer lol. Siler isnt athletic but he is showing improvement so give him a chance i say; the guy lost 40 lbs over the course of the season and from what i hear hes a hard worker. That being said bring in another 2nd teir bigman as insurance in case he goes all Oliver Miller on us.

Gortat/Siler/FA

What do you all think? Feel free to critique this as well as laying out your own (within reason) scenario.

I'd rather have Deron Williams. Paul is a primadonna punk, plays dirty, and is a huge flopper. No thanks.

Ok then either or. I'm sure he will be more than willing to leave the Nets hanging.

if CP3 can stay healthy I would do it but his knees are a bit of a concern. If it's as bad as Roy then no way the Suns will give him the amount of money and years he can get elsewhere.

Deron over cp3. If somehow we can get Aaron Afflalo in the off season. Then in 2012 we can lure Deron from the nets..our starting lineup would be;

Deron
Afflalo
Dudley
Frye
Gortat

Defense, three point shooting and pick and roll with Gortat and Deron.

CP3 over DWill if injuries aren't serious.

But either way, I don't see us offering enough, direction-wise, management-wise and ownership-wise to entice either of them to sign with us.

Im not trying to get into an argument with you buddy. However , we need to give Babby and Blanks at least one off season to see what they can do. So far, they brought us a Center fir the future in Gortat and got rid of Hedo contract. The jury is still out in the dragic for brooks deal. Something tells me that the brooks deal was made for an even bigger deal in the off season. As much as we valued dragic, brooks has more trade value than goran. Brooks and lopez should bring us something in returned. Alright, there's a reason why Childress is playing a lot more towards the end of the season. Injury to Pietrus has a little to go with it, but its more to show case him.

All I'm saying is that, we don't really have any young potential stars that would attract FA's. Everyone knows about our owner dismantling the team from what was a perennial contender to a team that can't even make playoffs. Also, it is my belief that the way we play (90% offense, 10% defense) would put off some of the top stars who care about defense because defense wins championships. Most true stars don't care about stats as much as they care about a playing in a proven winning system and I think time and time again, guys have seen us fall short because we can't defend a crucial play at the end of the game because of the way we play. I'm just seriously doubting the popularity of Phoenix amongst the FA in the coming years, especially with Nash possibly retiring in 2-4 years.

I'm willing to give B&B every possible opportunity to prove themselves, and they've done fairly well so far with ditching Hedo's contract for Gortat and VC's expiring. They were also smart enough to lock in Dudley to a long term deal on the cheap. The only deal I didn't like was the Brooks for Goran deal. I felt they made the trade just to make a trade. Brooks is the better player right now but I think Dragic has more potential defensively and as a PG.

I hated the trade - still hate it - but after I got over being pissed, I figured the same thing. They were unhappy with Gogo about something, brought Brooks in to see what he had but the idea was always there that (re-signed) he and Lopez were two good trade pieces.
I really do want to give this FO team an offseason before I light my torch and march up to the castle with the other angry villagers

I do disagree that Chilly is being showcased for a deal - Gentry loves the guy, and he's a great piece for the rebuild.

Goran can be explosive but he is inconsistant and didnt show much improvement this year. Throw in the fact that he was partying alot (thats how he injured his foot) and that Brooks was MIP last year so he defintely posseses more trade value, yes i can see it.

If CPaul is leaving, NO, providing they get an owner, will go through the same Melo-drama looking for a trade/re-sign. Paul can make more money then, still pick his team. and atleast the Hornets get something in return.

I dont think we will be active participants if he goes that route.

If he just waits and decides to go somewhere... well, you might as well bank on him going to the fLakers. He'd be the perfect fit to allow Kobe to wind down his career  and essentially its the law of the NBA that they reload with a star every 3-4 yrs. They are due.

We dont have a chance and should concentrate on finding a 'Paul-stopper'.

CP3/Dwill will sign with the Lakers. The other one will sign with the Knicks. And Dwight Howard will eventually end up with the Lakers. I don't like it, but that's the way things work :(.
