Trades for Picks

Post#1 » by jlove_26 » Wed Jun 1, 2011 6:21 pm

I can almost assuredly be in the minority on this subject, but I think the Suns would be smart to start looking at trying to trade for more draft picks in THIS draft. I like several players in this draft and think they could be significant in rebuilding/adding to what we have in a hurry with youth for the future. With that said, There are 7 teams with numerous first round picks and 4 teams have numerous second round picks. Now the question, is who or what could we trade to pick up maybe 1 more 1st round pick and maybe 1 or 2 second round picks.

Cavs - 2 firsts
Wolves - 2 firsts
Jazz - 2 firsts
Wizards - 2 firsts
Bobcats - 2 firsts
Rockets - 2 firsts
Bulls - 2 firsts

Cavs - 2 seconds
Kings - 2 seconds
Clippers - 2 seconds (no 1sts)
Lakers - 4 seconds (no 1sts)

What could the Suns look to trade that other teams might want (that we'd be willing to trade...no Dudley or Gortat IMO)?

Nash
Lopez
Future 1sts/2nds (Suns 2012 1st....Kings 2012 2nd) *Suns 2012 2nd to Hawks in deal for Childress*

Players I really like for the Suns (IMO I'm looking at PG and PF mostly (in order of preference). I think we are set at the 2/3/5):

PG: Irving/Knight/Fredette/Walker/D Morris/R Jackson/Shumpert/McCamey
PF: Williams/Kanter/Biyombo/Vesely/Tyler/Farried/T Thompson/Singleton/Morris twins/Thompkins/J Johnson/Reed

Depending on how many picks they could end up with and where, I'd like to get at least 1 PG and 1 PF from that group. I know some of those bigs are projected as centers, but I think all of the ones I listed have the game or the projection to be very strong at PF next to Gortat IMO.

I've been whining about getting another pick for a couple of months but the truth is, we've got not much to trade and a nearly full roster as is

I'm with you, though, that there are numerous players available that could really help this team and the chances of teams being willing to trade picks is likely better in this drat than in others.

Tradeable: Brooks (not sure entirely of when and how he can be traded, but he's a player we can live without, let's say. VC, Hak. Lopez, for the right deal. As pointed out many times his value is at an all-time low - it's no secret how badly he played last year. Better to keep him and hope he recovers. Still, moveable if someone wants him and he helps get pieces we need.

Untradeable: Nash - there is no way we get anything for him that really helps the team unless Minny goes completely nuts and does something like the 2, the 20, Beasely, Ridnour and Randolph. I don't see that happening (although in related news, my GF came in the room while David Kahn was being interviewed about the draft and said, "Oh, is he the guy from your basketball team who just came out?" So it's not just me ...)

Hakim Warrick - although we've seen that any contract and player can be traded, I can't imagine who would take Hak unless we were giving them something else they really, really wanted

Highly unlikely to be traded though they're guys other teams would want: Gortat, Frye, Duds, Hill (someone like Minny or even OKC love having Hill as the veteran leader)

Tradeable but really, they're good guys for us to have: Dowdell, Pietrus, Childress, Siler, Lawal (and at any rate, not till he's back from the injury)

So, how we parlay that into anything with picks coming back is a tough one. If we're willing to take one salary and use Vince that way, we could maybe get something like the #6 from Wash, or the 8 from the Pistons if we took Rip ....

the 11 from Warriors if Ellis is really on the block but they would likely also want our 13

76ers at #16 if they want to move Iggy and Speights, maybe

Maybe the Rockets woud let 23 go but after that, all the teams will likely want to keep those picks to add young, cheap bodies to their rosters. I think we would be wise to buy a couple 2nd rounders, or in any deal we do insist that a 2nd round pick be included. The second round has proven to be good value with no mandatory salary.

I'm hopeful but not expectant ....

There's been media talk of Nash to Portland for Batum and Miller. That is interesting start. I'd throw in Lopez for their #21 pick in that instance.

Interesting that Jerry West may be trying to trade Ellis. There could possibly be an interesting trade scenario in trying to acquire Ellis.

Interesting because Ellis said the same thing - they can't play together, he and Curry. I misunderstood him at first but then i got what he meant - too small, no defense. They score a ton and gave as much or more up - kind of like what Stat did too often.

Why Nash/Raja was so special. Perfect fit. I really hoped MP could do the same, or Anthony Parker who is very Raja like

Who with the 21st pick in this draft will help the Suns more then Lopez? This draft is horrible as it is and you are willing to give up a player making $1.9m as a back up center for the 21st pick in this draft.

The Suns cannot make the mistake of dumping Lopez just to dump him. As a backup center- the money he is making is nothing. I am not against trading him but the trade for Nash should be Nash and Warrick for Miller, Batum. the 21st pick and an expiring contract.

PGs: Morris/Jackson
SGs: Selby/Shumpert
SFs: Singleton/Butler
PFs: Faried/Tyler
Cs: Nogueira/Benson/Greg Smith

Those are who i would look at with the #21.

I'm a big fan of pure PG's. I'd definitely draft Morris with the #21.

I really can't see us buying a pick. The fact that we haven't even scheduled workouts might even be evidence, however slight, that we're considering trading the pick/packaging the pick. But really, if there's any draft to be buying a cheap late 1st, it's this one. There's good talent that's not quite good enough for late lottery but would good picks in the late 1st.

I dont think Dowdell and Siler are tradeable at all. Infact, we'd be in a pretty bad position to have to rely on those players coming off te bench

Anyone have this feeling Vince Carter + No.13 is being shopped for another starter?

I hope so!

There is another team that was mentioned as not having any draft prospects lined up for workouts.

VC/Pietrus/Lopez/#13 for Iggy/Brand/Speights/#16

Nash/Iggy/Hill/Brand/Gortat.

Although i wanna rebuild, getting a solid starter for Vince Carter's corpse is just too good of value.

VC/Pietrus/Lopez/#13 for Iggy/Brand/Speights/#16

Nash/Iggy/Hill/Brand/Gortat.

I'd be all for it, but why on earth would the sixers bite? Even without that 16 pick, it's so unfair.

IDK. I have talked to many many Sixers posters over the past few days, and they are kinda split. About a third say great, they would do the deal! Another third thinks we can obtain Iggy, but they want to keep Brand. The 3rd third say no, Iggy/Brand mean too much to them (Fanboys not acknowledging the massive financial savings).

They definitely want the Lopez/Speights part of the deal. Speights is their Lopez and has under-preformed after showing moments of greatness. Its the grass is always greener thing. They think maybe if they can work with Lopez, then he could improve, and i think the same holds true with Speights. They both need a change of scenery and a fresh start with a new team.

Sorry, I meant tradeable in the sense if we need to package them or let them go, it doesn't hurt us. I agree, there's not a big lineup for them
