Apparently we interviewed this guy twice for the head coach position after D'Antoni left in '08.

Found this interesting from Coro's article about the hire:

He also will be in charge of the Suns' defensive portions of practice. Each one will now have a committed 40-minute defensive session to improve on last season's 26th-ranked defensive field goal percentage.

Sounds good to me.

Good hire even though it's about 6 years too late.

Yeah, but like they say, better late than never right?

We're still lacking a starting quality SG and PF, so I don't expect things to change much.

My friend at work emailed me this link...I feel the Suns adding a Defensive Assistant is like hiring Arnie a British accent coach

worst that could happen - nothing
best that could happen - Lopez learns to block shots and defensively rebound

Nothing to lose basically I like it.

The ide a that there will be a 40 minute defensive component to practices is earth-shaking ... but we have the guys with skills to be a decent defensive team, even a good one. It can only help the offense

I hope so. We all know what happened the last time we tried to become a legitimate defensive team under Terry Porter.

All we need to do is be 12-17 defensively and we'll be fine. Rebounding is more important anyway.

Solid hire, better late than never as others have said.

I'm interested in how he will run our defensive-oriented practices, if we keep our old guys, we probably don't want to wear them down that much.

Rebounding is worthless if you allow 50% shooting.

And holding your opponent to 35% FG doesnt do anything when you allow 2 offensive rebounds per attempt.

We talking about rebounding or toughness? Because I thought in terms of toughness, Frye held his own last season.
