Shame we're not better than this by now. My condolences are with the afflicted.

Read about it earlier today. Absolutely shocking news. Norway just seemed like one of those peaceful countries with no real issues that are worth killing over (or at least none that I've heard about).
My thoughts are with them.

Unbelievable. I can't believe there wasn't ONE guy who could have stopped this "person". NINETY TWO
people. WHAT.
Straight up unfathomable.

To be frank, I read about half of an article about it when it initially happened before I had to stop reading and close the window. I cannot believe that someone is capable of such heinous actions. My heart goes out to the entire country.

The worst part is that he thinks he did it for Christianity (and against Islam), without realizing he is no more a Christian than bin Laden was a Muslim.
Sad, and disgusting.

He certainly is not a Christian. It's completely against the religion. Thou Shall Not Murder. His agenda could be to swing people away from being Christians by shedding them in a bad light.

If you read a little closer...

That agenda does not seem probable to me.
And there's a lot of people doing this:

I agree.
Steven Weinberg wrote:With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil—that takes religion.
If he wasn't a Christian and just an evil guy, then he has no reason to blame Islam and use Christianity as his cause. Christianity was definitely
his agenda. Playing the religion card isn't going to get him off any of the charges, so he has no reason fake an agenda.

The man was a history teacher, which makes his statement even more infuriating. I don't know if he's just ignoring The Crusades, The Inquisition, The KKK, etc. on purpose or what.
And again, his "No REAL Christian" defense is just an example of the "No TRUE Scotsman" fallacy I posted above.
I do not understand why Christians are using this as a rallying cry for exposing some sort of hidden anti-Christian conspiracy. Religious extremism sucks, no matter what religion it is. To claim that one religion is completely immune from this kind of stuff is evidence of bias:

It honestly sounds like something out of a Bond game or something. The scary thing is that in his "manifesto" he plans the whole thing out like a video game....he even says that escaping out of prison will be like a bonus mission or some crap like that.
I wonder how Norway is going to punish him.
I think the way the Norweigian people have responded is really wonderful...their PM said "We will retaliate with more democracy." I think that's beautiful.

I read the maximum sentence per terrorism charge is 21 years in Norway. He's charged on two counts of terrorism so that's 42 years. To think, if he lived long enough, that he would walk out of prison seems unjust.

This points out the hypocrisy much better than I could:
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-j ... the-fodderThe real question I have is how does fundamentalism arise? What can we do to stop it?

I agree. 42 years in jail for 93 murders? That equates to just under 6 months per murder.
Whatever the justic system in Norway decides to do to this terrorist, there is nothing they can do to make up for all the lives lost.
If he walks out of prison after 42 years, someone will be ready and waiting to murder the moment he steps out of his cell anyway.... If he somehow manages to survive prison without being bludgeoned to death....

They should do him for each individual murder. That should keep him in for life. But considering they have a max sentence for terrorism of only 21 years, murder could be 30 days and no meatloaf on Friday's.
