ESPN's 5-on-5: Suns

Post#1 » by MrMiyagi » Wed Aug 17, 2011 9:39 am

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/5-o ... -questions

Don't know if anyone has brought this up yet, but here it is for those who have yet to see this.

Thoughts on the article?

It's really all stuff we've heard before, and maybe they're right, but I'd still like to see one more season with Nash. If we really are doing that bad, I don't see why not trade him mid-season, assuming there is a season of course.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Fairly negative... or is it negatively fair ? I dont know how close some of these bloggers are to the organization, but the general consensus is an outlook shared by many here.

One question I'd like to have seen is "Can the Suns add a Free Agent and return to contender status ? "

My answer is yes.... but then again... I possess an optimistical drool cup. You see, I am of the belief that a CBA settlement will include a provision to create enough room on our roster to add a significant FA. And if not, I'd deal our 2012#1 in a package to get a better than average key PF to run with our already solid line up. Thats all we lack.

Put a healthy David West here..... and tell me why we dont make the play offs as a top tier team. Bring on KHumphries and then say we get abused on the boards again. Holysmokes, just trade Pietrus for Drew Gooden and we are instantly better and likely a post season thorn.

I think many here down play the ability of the 6 or 7 mainstays we have, and tend to focus on last yrs outcome..... this is still a very smart talented ballclub and we had better personnel at the end than the beginning. A couple of untimely injuries knocked us out.

As usual, let the league/media under estimate what these guys can do. Just dont be so fast to saddle up with them.

Drew Gooden has never been, nor will he ever be, the solution to anything.

West would be perfect here.

I agree.

Question: Should Gortat or Lopez start at center?
Answer: Trade Gortat.

You're an idiot.

It's absolutely unfathomable to me how people totally ignore the fact that this team is now a completely different team than it was in the beginning/middle of last season. I mean, honestly, our starting frontcourt at the beginning of the season was:

    1) Robin I've-lost-all-my-athleticism-when-that's-all-I-ever-had Lopez (and then I got injured, just in case I wasn't already irrelevant enough--luckily we had Garret Siler and Earl Barron to fill the hole  )
    2) Hedo failed-experiment Turkoglu, who is only marginally terrible at defense as long as Dwight Howard is behind him and he's guarding small people...otherwise he's epically terrible.

That is easily the worst defensive frontcourt that even Phoenix has ever seen. And we still won some games. :o

Wait, you meant the management which replaced Stoudemire and Amundson with Warrick, traded Barbosa for Turkoglu without asking for a first round pick, signed Childress to a long term contract only to not play that guy, traded Dragic along with a first rounder for Brooks, and actually believed that Carter would want to play on a team that's barely in the playoff race when he sucked even when he's playing with the best center in the league?

All depends on when the lockout ends.

I think the Suns can actually make a fairly solid push if we have a lockout-shortened season. I hope Sarver would go all-in with Nash if the season is cut in half.

However, if this is a season (or, god forbid, 2 seasons or more) lockout, than we are almost forced to go young.

Don't get me wrong, I love Nash as a Suns player, but the lockout may claim the last few years of his all-star level play.

Did u just say trading expiring Pietrus for the often injured and 4-years left on long hefty contract Drew Gooden would instantly make Suns better?

Some people dont understand the value an expiring contract brings. The Suns have stated repeatedly there is no way they are trading Peaches even as he was dropping twitter posts talking about wanting to be traded and so forth. I guess he doesnt understand his expiring contracts value either past the player option part where he was guaranteed a bucket of dollars for next season.

I don't like the idea of trading Nash. If I was an owner I would rather try to get smart and talented young PG (not undersized SG like Brooks) and hope he become elite playmaker after learning from Nash.

On the court it does. But he is just an example.

Dont be mesmerized by an expiring contract as if it will lead to some magical piece via Free Agency. The front office dropped that hook in the water and every little fish here has been fighting over it. Without knowing the CBA implications, you cannot honestly determine the value of an expiring deal. It may turn out to be nil if teams are allowed some form of contractual amnesty. It should be no surprise if our owner values it as merely money he does not have to spend. Pietrus should have trade value.... but only to a team wishing to shed future salary obligations.

You can cry all you want about cap space... If we do not get a solid piece at PF/C, we will be a rinse and repeater, if we play at all. And please, don't trot out Morris as if he is the answer. You see, I want to win now, and do not think we are too far away from being a factor in post season...ie 1 solid PF.

You mean like Goran? :(

Well Sundmental you as well as the rest of the Suns fans should no that the Suns are infected with a cancer known as Sarveritis which is slowly killing the Suns . The symptoms include the desire to add inferior parts to the team , causes one to act very stupid and cheap, will eventual have everyone hating them , wants to promote from within even when its the worst decision you could make, to make really bad decisions like selling and trading draft picks in exchange for crap and last to draft the inferior brother of twins or of just two brothers as well as passing on the superstar or roleplayer potential for the proverbial bust . The only cure is to remove the infected area aka Sarver failure to do so will result in eventual death or in this case the transformation of the Suns from a playoff team to a bottom feeder . So I guess Sundamental believes that our Front Court was the most awesome thing he has ever seen since you choose to quote the post explaining it. Well anyone with a brain can see it was terrible adn Sarver is the problem until he is gone the Suns will continue to have a bleak future and that's why I hope this lockout consumes the entire 2011- 2012 season .
