What's the deal with Aaron Brooks?

Full disclosure: Rockets fan here. I have been an Aaron Brooks fan ever since he lit the Lakers up in the playoffs three years ago. After that, he was given the nod for MIP and things were looking up. One bad ankle injury later, he's lost his starting spot and was traded to the Suns.

He didn't have the best season for the Suns (I watched a lot of yalls games) but it seems to me he is being severely underestimated over here. Not only was AB our primary scorer one year ago, but he was our closer and our isolation player. Rick Adelman trusted AB to take that last shot and it worked out quite a few times. He hit numerous buzzer beaters and towards the end of that season was the definition of clutch. He's one of the quickest PGs out there, has unlimited range, and can finish over taller players around the rim.

After reading the Sun's 5-on-5 I was a little shocked to see that not a single analyst had Aaron as the Sun's future PG. News flash: this undersized SG off the bench idea isn't new. He's been labeled that since he came into the league and he's always blown that concept right out of the water. There's a reason the Suns traded a great prospect and a protected pick for him, he's good and his value was low.

Will the Suns resign him to an MLE type deal if a team like the Lakers are willing to throw that kind of money at him (assuming there will be an MLE)? Fill me in, I have probably missed some key issues here but I used to have a lot of faith in the player Chinese fans lovingly named "little black bean".

He can certainly play. If Phoenix deals Nash around deadline time next year (if next year happens), then I can see Brooks being the starting PG in Phoenix for a while.

It's not that I (we?) think he can't play...his ceiling just isn't as high as Dragic's.

When has he blown the concept that he's an undersized SG out of the water?

He is who he is, an undersized (and soon to be overpaid) SG.

I think many here don't mind him, but giving up as much for him, when there was no guarantee that we could keep him leaves a sore. He didn't have enough time with our offense, and often he just came down and shot the ball. So if he doesn't mind coming off the bench and works within the offense, I bet many here will change their minds and enjoy watching him play here. Also after watching Goran with those triple doubles when given the start, didn't help AB's stock here.

Let's see what happens after the lockout. We offered him the QO, so if he doesn't grab that, we will have to see what offers he gets. If they are too high, we most likely won't match, and that would be the worst part of what we gave up to get him.

...with proven playoff success as a starting PG. Who cares if he doesn't fit the mold of a 'traditional' point guard? In over last 15 years, the Suns greatest successes have been unconventional.

Exactly. Boris Diaw playing center immediatly springs to mind.
