Suns in the ESPN top 500 player rankings

Post#1 » by bigfoot » Thu Sep 8, 2011 3:05 am

Here's the current Suns on ESPN top 500 player list.

#349 Markieff Morris
#445 Gani Lawal
#468 Zabian Dowdell
#492 Garret Siler

They are currently counting down the top 240. The Suns still have eleven players in the running. Here's how I see it playing out. Hopefully this generates some chatter

220 - 240 Warrick
210 - 230 Lopez
200 - 230 Pietrus
180 - 200 Brooks
160 - 180 Carter
150 - 170 Childress
140 - 160 Frye
75 - 100 Dudley
35 - 50 Hill
25 - 40 Gortat
15 - 20 Nash

Well if there are thirty teams, and each are allowed to carry fifteen players, that makes 450 players in the league. So if Siler is 492, there could be 42 guys that are listed better than him, that won't even be in the league? :o Now that is funny.

Or is this of all time? If it is of all time, there is no way our 10th through 12th players make that list.

@bigfoot: I disagree with your predictions a bit. IMO Gortat, Hill, Dudley and Frye all will be ranked in 80-120 range (maybe Frye a bit lower). VC is very difficult to rank, he can be in the top 100, or at the end of top 200.

The list includes all NBA players from last year and the 60 draft picks from this year which is right at 500 total players.

Yeah I may have homerized a bit much on Hill, Dudley, and Gortat. Still Gortat is a top 60 player according to Hollinger PER. I am hoping Hill's defense/leadership would push him into the top 50 but that is probably a stretch.

Wow, Robin Lopez probably has some value around the league yet. 208 and counting and his name is waiting..... very interesting.

I don't see Nash lower than 20. Still one of the best point guards.

Wow ... ten Suns players still in the top 180. I whiffed on Lopez, Pietrus, and Brooks who I thought were between 180 and 240.

A half-injured Robin Lopez is better than a chronically-injured Greg Oden?

Yeah, actually. Can't have more impact if you're never on the court.

Actually ... Oden probably had a higher positive impact sitting on the bench than Robin did it on the court. Oden +- was 0 ... Robin's was negative.

Robin better than Biedrins @ 174 ... I don't think so. Defensively Biedrins is way superior to Robin.

exact what i am thinking: suns have tons of quite medicore players, above average, but no real superstar. (nash is too old to be one to build around)

I hate it when people say that. Nash is playing as good as he's ever played. He's shown no signs of slowing down and is the #1 in shape player in the NBA.
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

i am a huge nash fan, but we have to face the facts. and the fact is that he hast about 3 or 4 years left.
i dont say "lets trade him for a box of popcorn", but we have to think about the future too.
this means to me that we have to draft or trade for a young guard without giving up nash. so he can mentor him.

He's fine in the beginning of the season but he can't keep it up like he used to...he struggles a bit towards the end of the season. He plays through injuries he probably shouldn't, and that certainly doesn't help.

I would love to see someone like Sessions here so Nash could teach him

Brooks for Sessions, sign and trade - we could probably do something interesting with Cleveland
