The Suns waived Zabian Dowdell today and are considering adding Ronnie Price.
http://bit.ly/vRUbrWI'm not really a fan of Ronnie Price. I watched a lot of him last year with the Jazz and never felt like he was capable of running an offense. Puts up a lot of ill-advised shots.

I was never as high on Zabe as some others here...definitely didn't see him as the primary backup/injury replacement to Nash. But I did think he was a good dirt cheap 3rd string PG so it's a bummer that a poorly timed injury ended his tenure here.

So then - this is the ZD Appreciation Thread, I guess.
The guy accepted his role, played hard when he was called, and showed that he can play in this league. I hope he catches on somewhere - seemed like a good teammate

I liked Z a lot. He made the most of his (relatively) limited talent, played hard, and seemed like a good dude.

Dowdell's injury must be serious, because the front office/coach had good hopes for him. I did, as well.

This is really unfortunate. I liked Dowdell, a lot. Great guy and truely gave it his all every second on the floor. I've been Dm'ing him on twitter for the last week and he told me he has been injured the entire offseason with a stress reaction in his knee. He said he would be good to go in "2 weeks" but I guess our FO couldn't wait. I was really looking forward to having him as a backup. Much better than Price or Telfair. Hopefully he gets a chance with another team and has a good career.

I loved Zab. He was a good role player off the bench for us last season. Nothing fancy, but just came in and got the job done when needed. Had rough start to his NBA career, but stuck it out with us through Summer Leagues and Training Camps. This must be devastating news for him.

I never understood what people saw in Dowdell. The team was wretched when he was playing and he didn't even look good against other NBA hopefuls in summer league. The only player that looked like a potential NBA player off last years summer league squad is Scottie Reynolds.

Agree with Miklo and phx#7, I didn't dislike him but I didn't have the affinity with him that some here had. For a guy who played under 300mins for us he seemed to reach a bit of a following that wasn't warranted - surely if he was as good on D and a pure PG he'd have made the Suns think 'we don't need to spend $1.5m on Seb Telfair, we have Zabian'...I could see him going to Europe, he just doesn't seem an NBA ready point guard.
Same with Lawal for that matter - I seriously doubt the Suns brass would release a guy who will suddenly go out and murder teams on the boards like Reggie Evans 2.0...He's another Taylor Griffin - minus the exceptional brother.
ps - if Lawal has a brother I'm calling it that he ends up on the Suns...

^My tone came across a little cynical I guess haha.
I do wish both guys all the best - neither had egos or took anything for granted, so for that, they deserve the best for their success on the courts. Lawal slightly less success as he's joined the Dark Side
