Good, glad to see him go. He never seemed like he wanted to be here. He did play decent defense, but was basically reduced to being a chucker last year flailing away from beyond the arc.

If it wasn't for that bums bad knee the Toronto trade would have gone through and we would have saved millions of dollars and gotten a 2nd round pick. Now we get nothing for him.

Re: Breaking: Suns waive Mickael Pietrus
So what is the whole story on this? Did we buy him out, or are we giving him his full salary? If we are giving him his full salary, this makes no sense. We could have waited until later when a team is looking to get a vet for the playoffs.
But if he is picked up by another team, and that given salary can be taken off our cap, then it isn't so bad.

Suns reached a buyout settlement with Pietrus, saving about $1.2M of his $5.3M salary. He'll make it up by signing elsewhere

We couldn't trade him to say Memphis for one of the six shooting guards they have, since they lost Battier?
Well at least we didn't give up a first rounder.

Re: Breaking: Suns waive Mickael Pietrus
too bad it didn't work out - I liked the guy in GS but that was then and this is now, and he apparently was an annoying guy to be around.
What does this mean for us - someone can claim him on waivers and pick up his deal, which we know is unlikely. If he clears waivers, then what?

CORO'S ORANGE SLICES
Suns buy out Mickael Pietrus
Phoenix Suns update:
Mickael Pietrus was a Sun in roster only lately until they waived him Thursday.
The Suns bought out Pietrus' contract, paying him about $4.2 million of his $5.3 million salary. Once he clears waivers, Pietrus can pick from a group of other interested teams, led by Boston, to make up the difference.
"Both Mickael and us realized it'd be beneficial for both parties to party ways," Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said. "There's an expression that, 'All's well that ends well.' In this case, all's well that ends."
Pietrus did not play or travel with the team over the final 12 games of last season due to knee pain. During the lockout, he had right knee surgery after he was declared unfit to join the French national team. The Suns agreed to trade him to Toronto two weeks ago but he failed the physical. Pietrus came to Phoenix for a MRI last weekend but never joined the team.
"He was really our kind of player -- a big guy who can shoot," Suns Coach Alvin Gentry said. "In order for it to be a good fit, you've got to want to be here and I'm not sure he was every fully engaged about being here."

Yeah, too bad it didn't work out. Was kinda excited that he was a part of the Gortat deal, bringing defense and shooting.

Exactly. A team like Boston could really use him, as they just lost Green for the season....

Wow, not like Gentry to ever call someone out like that. Sounds like he really was a bit of a prima Donna. Too wired for our veteran locker room.

Dear lord, Babby always sounds like such an idiot. All's well that ends well--all's well that ends? You don't need to change the expression for it to fit the situation for one, and also removing the "well" makes it sound like it was on bad terms. Maybe it's just me, but I'm picky with PR.

I interpreted it the exact same way you did.

Marcin Gortat:
6.8$ 3 Years
Fills a Need (Center)
Hedo Turkoglu:
11$ 3 Years
Doesn't really fill a need (We have/had too many wings)
Gortat's contract and age makes him more tradeable. Especially the extra $4 mil going into free agency next offseason. We also got a 1st round pick in the trade. So I disagree.

I would have to say that Babby meant it exactly as it sounds - they're glad he's gone, and vice-versa. That's pretty harsh in a business that's almost always, "We wish Mr. Hitler well in his future endeavours and appreciate his hard work and commitment during his time with us."

Fearless forecast. You're going to go a long time without topping that one.

yeah - that one. It could only have been worse if they traded him to get KT back, completing the circle of sh*t. No knock on KT, but that would be head-exploding irony
who'd Hous take with that pick - or do I not want to know?
