The Alvin Gentry Thread
Oh yes. He's sharp dressed, snazzy watches, he's the man. Gotta love his AWESOME rotations when he takes out players who're on hot streaks, and his perfecr fourth quarter rotations of everyone on the bench and a rookie.
Oh yes.
Oh yes.

Re: The Alvin Gentry Thread
Jokes aside, I thought we'd make a hot seat thread, where we reward and critique him for his decision making.

Re: The Alvin Gentry Thread
Well this year is hard to tell, but last year his rotations were terrible. And last year he either pulled the hot hand, or ran plays away from the hot hand. It was completely moronic.

Agreed. Majerle > Gentry. WHY WHY WHY was Morris in at the end of the game?

He needs to be fired as soon as possible with Elston Turner taking over as interim HC. We need to start playing defense (yes I know this means trading Nash)

Coach can only do so much with really limited talent. He does seem to have a bad habit of going away from players that are rolling. But I'd like to keep him around and evaluate him when we've actually started rebuilding.

Re: The Alvin Gentry Thread
Sorry, keeping Morris on the floor during money time was not a fault! Morris played great while Frye was just awful on offense.
Hill on Nash going to the Lakers: “That’s like transferring from Duke and going to Carolina.”

Uh you do realize that the problem wasn't defense tonight, right?
We can't score a **** bucket. Tonight was a great example of how a great defense means absolutely nothing if you can't score. It's what happened earlier too. People kept busting balls about defense and then the GMs started to get too cute and absolutely castrated what we do as a team.
Tonight we rebounded (which is always the bigger problem than defense) and played good defense, but again, doesn't mean jack if you can't score.
Alvin is a great mentor and teaches so much to the players. He's well liked and is a positive presence, but his in-game decision making has been his downfall wherever he went. Hopefully he doesn't have too many problems this year. I didn't have a problem with the final playcall. I thought it was poorly executed by the players actually.
And I too think that Dan Majerle is our next coach whenever it happens and I think he will be fantastic.

Re: The Alvin Gentry Thread
That last play actually looked like Nash was supposed to cut to the hole and that was where it looked like he was going and also where the pass went. But it seemed as though he thought it was covered so he pulled out.

Props to Kerrsed for the sig

Dan would be a terrible coach. Clipboard in one hand, cranberry vodka in the other...while i think hes a great players guy, i doubt anyone takes him seriously.
"Mannnnn I’m like the guy that pissed this whole board off saying literally all year no Mikal, no Mikal in the KD trade."

Not sure if it was designed for Nash to go to the hole, but there wasn't a player within five feet of the paint on that play. I don't know what Nash saw that made him hesitate, but knowing that the ball is coming back to you, wouldn't you go where no defenders are? The only other thing I can think of, is in the back of Nash's head, he was hoping Morris would take and make that shot if Nash was guarded, to have him be the hero of the game, but the kid followed orders to the letter.

No what I meant to say is we need to away from this fast tempo offense crap and try to be a defensive team in the NBA. If we can get into a traditional offense, then I think we have guys that can score.
Defense wins games and championships in today's NBA.
And we held a Hornets team without CP3 or Jarret Jack to 84 pts at home...yay what an accomplishment!

The last play was definitely ugly but it was a good learning experience for the rookie. Nash certainly didn't do Kieff any favors but hesitating with 3 seconds left but I definitely think had Nash dropped into the open paint, Kieff would've made the right pass. But knowing Nash's style, he would've done the same thing and stayed out in the perimeter 9 times out of 10. Had it been someone like Hill, he would have slashed to the paint. But it's a good learning experience for Kieff, he's still trying to get a feel for the other player's tendencies.

I have to agree. I really haven't heard much about Marjele coming into his own as a great assistant coach. Some people are just better suited as an assistant coach where they can focus on specifics.

Love this post, I've been to a couple parties, even team sanctioned ones where Majerle is trashed all the time. He's not a head coach at all, cat just wants to live the good life.

When Cotton was commentating for us, I always pictured him with a glass of scotch.
