Suns future point guard!!!

Post#1 » by SunsRback4Good » Sat Jan 14, 2012 12:05 am

What good point guard will Suns have in the future. Maybe in about 3 to 5 years. We were blessed with good point guards over the past 20 years. Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, Stephen Marbury, and Steve Nash. So who do you guys think will play for Phoenix next? Derron Williams, Ricky Rubio, and etc? :)

Honestly I'd love Rondo back with the team that drafted him...not sure how to get him, but I love his aggressiveness and vision. Three-way trade with NJ, Nash and Dudley and/or GHill to NJ, DWill to Celts and Rondo to Suns?

NJ has no sense of DWill staying. Celts tried to trade Rondo for CP3...why not Dwill. Suns get Rondo and keep Gortat.

This year:

Rondo
Redd
Warrick (or Hill)
Morris
Gortat

Sign Kevin Love and OJ Mayo in off-season:

Rondo
Mayo
Morris
Love
Gortat

Yes, def agree with Rondo.

Honestly I'd like to see Rondo run in phoenix for next 6-8 years. He's a special player.

And remember: Rondo was technically drafted by the Suns --> just like Nash was draft by Phx. Only makes sense to bring him somehow and continue the tradition of pg that Suns have drafted.

Rondo has turned into a giant douchenozzle as a result of playing in Boston with other douchenozzles. If he'd been 'raised' with guys like Hill and Nash, he might not be, but now...

I'd not like it.

Just tonight he spent literally the entire game versus Chicago being a giant b***h about a single charge call that went against him after he got a T in the 1st.

Rondo is a good PG but I don't see him as the type of guy you build around. He cant knock down a jumpshot consistantly and while he's a good playmaker, it's easy to rack up assists when you have guys like KG, Ray Allen and Pierce who create their own shots.

If he were to sign to a medium sized deal I would snatch him up in a heartbeat but he's the type of guy who someone will overpay for. I pass.

I think given the current landscape we may need to get a mid tier PG for a few years after Nash and strengthen other positions... unless somehow a dWill or Westbrook fall into out lap.

You will probably laugh, but for a D-minded, rebuilded Suns, I'd like to go for Brandon Jennings. Let's be serious - having Brooklyn, Lakers, Boston, Chicago hunting for star free agents, Suns will not sign D-Will or Dwight or anybody from the biggest. Jennings is a very good fit for fast & hard playing team. Well coached, in the right system, he has very bright future.

I too would love to get him, but i think the Bucks might value him more than us. He has swagger, and tends to act like the star that he could be, and thats something Milwaukee had lacked for a long long time. To them, he already is a star.

I have always liked Jennings, and think that he will end up a Superstar PG. If we could somehow steal him, that would be awesome, but i believe the Bucks or another team might vastly overpay for him in free agency.

Heck no to Brandon Jennings. He might be the worst shooter in the nba. He's overrated. Not a fan. that Kabongo kid looks like he has some big potential.

Rondo would be solid.

Kendall Marshall is a name to watch from UNC. Traditional point guard.

we'd have to have the dynamic 2 guard to build around though

Interesting that you dont want Jennings cause he is a bad shooter... but still want Kabongo and Rondo. Both of the knocks on them are that they aren't very good shooters.

I think Jennings is the same type of PG as them. quick, good passer and court vision, not a good shooter but can create for teammates.

What is the most important with Jennings: he's incredible defender and finisher. With a good coach, in fast paced system, he must become a superstar. In Milwaukee it's impossible. In Phoenix? Hell yeah.

Rondo is trash. If he is our best player we wont win 20 games in a 66 game season.

I don't think Rondo is trash. May be slightly overrated but definitely not someone to be the centerpiece going forward.

Probably impossible but I'd love me some Rubio in a Suns uniform.

Jennings isn't nearly in the league of Rondo or even Kabongo who just have excellent court vision which makes their passing game so much easier, like Steve Nash. Problem is, neither of them can buy a shot if their life depended on it. Jennings is more a quick, slashing, scoring guard that can find the open man off his drives and even in some half court situations. He's only now learning to be a better passer and facilitator for his offense this season after Skiles reiterated it to him several times that it needs work.

At this point, I'd be fine with what we have at PG next season in Brooks (if we re-sign him cheap) and Price and would much rather spend the possibly high lotto pick on a big.

If we do land in the teens as always, I see Teague and Lamb as better picks than Kabongo, who comes in a close third.

I don't think Lamb slides past the top 5 picks. I think the Suns are probably going to go after a guy in RFA, then resign Nash as he plays out his last year or two here.

Me too!

I'll admit to being wrong on Rubio  . I thought he would be some softie Euro player who was avoiding coming over to play in the NBA. Boy was I wrong. This kid is going to be a great pass first PG in this league and will make a lot of money.

Benen watching Ricky for 5+ year after reading about him first in Dime or Slam, one of them. Really glad to see him finally here and succeeding. Minny is so close to being real good - and they're already a lot of fun to watch

Watched a little bit of Rubio here and there but it was during the Olympics, he pretty much cemented his status as a legit talent in my mind. Been on that train for a while now and while I did expect him to fit in well with his defense and passing, I had no idea he'd be this comfortable and settled in this early into his NBA career.

I've wanted Rubio on the Suns since I first heard of him. Pity they couldn't get him in as a one to two year back up to Nash. He'd be the PERFECT successor to Nash.
